MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Been doing the same thing, I'm half way through Rise and Fall!

Yeah - I get sidetracked with some movies and docs. Rise and Fall was 4 hours total, right?

Had a chance to see the advance screening of THE LONE RANGER yesterday. Enjoyed it ... for those familiar with Gore Verbinski, Johnny Depp, Disney, Jerry Bruckheimer and others ... you'll enjoy the action sequences and Pirates of the Caribbean feel (pure entertainment). The final 20 mins are plenty of fun. Crowd seemed to like it too. Movie opens around July 3rd, and this screening took place June 20th.

Thanks for the rev Helico-pterFunk was going to see it anyway, but good to know its good

World War Z

The Zombies on Red Bull and 5 Hour Energy flick World War Z is for a good amount of its running
time suspenseful, slick, darkly humorous with some unexpected turns.I enjoyed the manic pace of the Zombies
and their ant hill pile ons.Brad Pitt and the rest of the cast do a fine job.
The aforementioned praise worthy attributes of the film become more intermittent as the film progresses
to an ending thats quite lackluster, far to easy, and predictable.
Save yourself a few bucks and skip the 3D version.

Sure thing, JB. Thanks for the review of World War Z too. With The Lone Ranger ... the crowd response was positive (all ages). It was long at over 2 hours ... but fun. If you liked the over-the-top battles in the Pirates ... franchise ... you'll appreciate the fun shit atop the moving train in the latter half of the film. The villain was good (Butch Cavendish). Knew I recognized him from some place (William Fichtner). He was in PRISON BREAK.

Yeah - it's a good little movie, for real. Good buzz on BGOL over the past few months ... strong performance from the kid too. Hopefully he has more projects lined up in the near future.

Man of Steel (3D) - Had free passes to The Conjuring this past Wednesday. Brought our 3D glasses along, and ventured over to Man of Steel instead :D - it was ok. Too much of the sci-fi shit though and focus on planet Krypton or whatever. Not really my steez given all the effects, etc. Starts to feel like you're watching a videogame after awhile (kind of like Immortals 3D a year or two back ... after awhile you're just wondering how much post-production & green screen time was involved). Enjoyed the rest of the movie though.

Spring Breakers - BGOL video rental. Enjoyed it as there's a decent amount of background T&A going on in the flick. James Franco basically plays Riff Raff.

Jodi Arias - Dirty Little Secret - Online video rental, lol. Watched it for Tania Raymonde (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, Lost, Malcolm in the Middle) as she's been a fuckable for years, and has the proper WGOL ass. They needed to show more of her in her panties as she's worth of the doggystylage. Keeps her body right.

^^^^^^she was the only good thing about that last Texas chainsaw movie. I had my eye on her since Lost.

Yeah - Jeff Goldblum was dating her in recent years. Had about 30 or 40 years on her in age  - he knew that body was right. She seems like cool people too. Played the likable, know-it-all nerd who had a thing for Frankie Muniz on Malcolm in the Middle back in the earlier part of the 2000s. She was funny on that shit.

watched this the other night and love it. I damn near shed a tear. This movie was Epic. Its like the Chinese version of 300 but on a smaller scale.

Hellfish - Good intel on Saving General Yang. Thanks ^

Movies we plan on watching in the near future =

- Evil Dead
- Life of Pi
- Headhunters
- Cell 211
- Jack Reacher
- The Movie Out Here
- Redemption
- Smashing Big Booties #211
- Freaks, Whoes, and Flows Volume 329
- Sugarwalls 224
- Black Cheerleader Search - Volume 925

White House Down

I guess the era of the carbon copy film didnt end in the late 80's or early 90's.Remember all of
those body switching comedies(18 Again,Vice Versa,Like Father ,Like Son ?? UGH!!)
3 Months after the assault and taking of the White House flick Olympus Has Fallen, along
comes White House Down with slight differences and less grit than Olympus Has Fallen.

WHD has an extremely slow start introducing Channing Tatum as John Cale, gunning
for a spot in the Presidents detail of the secret service, with his history loving daughter Joey King as Emily Cale
in tow. Then finally all hell breaks lose and the fun rollercoaster ride begins.
Jamie Foxx as James Sawyer, the President of United States does his best Obama impersonation.
Tatum does his tank top wearing Die Hard best,James Woods chews scenery as if he hasnt eaten in months.
Throw in Maggie Gyllenhaal as Carol Finnerty, a Secret Service agent and Richard Jenkins as Eli Raphelson,
the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and a few more character actors, that manage to remain
straight faced through the most preposterous moments in the film.

There are a lot of great one liners, action sequences and Tatum and Foxx play well together.
I must admit some moments are quite rousing and applauding.

Some moments are loaded with super cheese and there is a unnecessary turn late in the film's already 2 hour
plus running time that just extends the film to bloated land.

A fun romp but just a little to long.

The Heat

In The Heat Director Paul Feig ,writer Katie Dippold,Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy have created one of the funniest comedy
duos to ever hit the big screen.
When Bullock's uptight,by the book,F.B.I agent Sarah Ashburn who consistently shows up her fellow agents meets up with the brash and
crass Detective Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) it's comedy gold. She easily chafes at her methods as the try to take down some
sadistic drug dealers. She becomes constantly frustrated with Mullins which is only part of the hilarity.
McCarthy is amazing,as the foul mouthed Mullins. There is a running gag in the film that should have grown tiresome but McCarthy
consistently makes it work.

Even with scenes that are surprisingly bloody, violent and dramatic,The Heat never loses its sense of humor.Great turns by the supporting cast
equal to some very funny moments.

The Heat definitely has some cliched moments, and some characters are under used, but the over the top fun moments definitely
outweigh anything bad i can say about the film.

Bring on The Heat 2

JBlaze - I hear you regarding The Heat. It was better than I expected, and the crowd at the advance screening in May was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting some bullshit ... formulaic garbage. It actually had people laughing ... genuine shit too ... not that forced "haha" that people do @ lame joints. Only thing missing was some T&A action

Saw Jack Reacher yesterday. It was ok ... slow pacing to it ... but we actually liked that as too many movies are loud, in-your-face & rushed or hurried. This one slowed things down and let you process shit. A bit long at just over 2 hours though.

I was pleasantly surprised too because the trailers had become kind of obnoxious but it was very good.

I wonder if Jack Reacher is streaming on Netflix yet??

JBlaze - Agreed. The radio spot for The Heat is obnoxious and offensive (as it focuses on the running albino joke). It's funny in the movie, but just sounds stupid over the radio. The movie was a pleasant surprise though. Bullock's funny as the straight-laced one given how McCarthy is always good for a laugh.

Not sure about Jack Reacher. Checked it out via BGOL video rental. I liked it as it had that slower pace. So used to movies these days being in-your-face & hyper. This one slowed it down a bit (albeit a bit long).

Hellfish - Good intel on Saving General Yang. Thanks ^

No doubt, I really think you and the Mrs will like it. Have those kleenex on standby lol

- Redemption

Watch this last night and have mix feelings. It was a bit different from the typical statham flixs. It was a little less action and more drama, which isn't a bad thing. I think statham is a competent actor when given the chance. I guess the issue I have with this film is that it had the makings of something deep but kind of loses ground as the film progresses.

Thanks for the intel on both movies.

As for Statham ... wish he had more roles to show off his acting chops. He's easily proven himself as one of the best action stars of the past decade plus ... we just need to see more from him now (even though he's still able to pull off the physical roles effectively). One of my fave roles from him was -

Haven't seen any movies for a quick minute - catching up on a few TV series. Did win passes to R.I.P.D. (Jeff Bridges / Ryan Reynolds) but that one's a way's off on July 18th.

THE LONE RANGER

The Lone Ranger is definitely not the eye gouging travesty several critics have claimed it to be,but it's definitely
not highly memorable, but it is fun with some major faults.
When i go to see a film about a legendary heroic character i expect him to be just that....HEROIC!!
Sure some of The Ranger's (Armie Hammer) banter, bumbling and arguing with Tonto (Johnny Depp)
was amusing, but at times i felt it was overdone in the film, and unecessary scenes became more grating
as they popped up in and out of the film.
Fortunately the film looks great,an almost unrecognizeable William Fichtner portraying the sadistic
Butch Cavendish does well in his role.Tom Wilkinson is always a welcome presence, and Helena Bonham Carter's
Red Harrington is an interesting character but underused.

I enjoyed the action sequences but by the time the action packed railroad rally rolls onto the screen,i felt it was too little to late
So in the end TLR has its moments but most that you will be grateful you waited for cable or the DVD to see.

DESPICABLE ME 2

Despicable Me 2 may be extremely predictable, but still managed to charm and entertain me.
Gru and crew (of course the 10,400 Minions are back) face off against a new villain with an assist from
Lucy Wilde, an Anti-Villain League agent, who is brought to life with some very enthusiastic voice work
from Kristen Wiig .Part of the fun of DM2 is a ton of cool visual references to some of my favorite films.
If your like me and my son and cant get enough of the Minions get read for a Major Minion Picture in
2014

JBlaze - Thanks for the take on The Lone Ranger. I've been surprised at how much the reviewers and critics have been shitting on it. They're acting all sour and pissed off, and all I could think was - "Shit ... it's a movie for crying out loud. Entertainment. Sit back and enjoy." At the screening on June 20th ... people just kicked back and enjoyed a popcorn movie. No more, no less. It was a bit long ... etc ... but shit ... the action sequences and outdoor scenery and vistas were nice to look at. All the 1/5 star ratings and shit are a bit much from some of these folks. It's not that bad ... and shit ... we all know there are worse movies out there given some of the schlock Hollywood pushes out :D

This is available on Netflix! I'm really starting to become an Adrien Brody fan his movies tend to have some substance behind them and this one was no different...Recommended

To true even if the script isnt great,i appreciate the hard work that goes into an action adventure like this. I have seen critics rave about movies that are complete shite.

I hear you. It's a fucking movie for crying out loud. A big screen popcorn flick. No one was whining at the advance screening, and that's not just because the price was right at $0.00 - people genuinely just had a relatively fun time. You take it for what it is ... entertainment. All these critics ranting and raving ... gimme a break. There's been a shitton worse movies in the first 1/2 of 2013 :D

The Raid: Redemption was a good ass movie and I don't usually watch action movies. It's literally action packed.

The_Raid_Redemption.jpg

Totally agree. Won passes to the screening last year and asked pops if he wanted to check it out. "Nah, not really ... doesn't look that good." Asked him what he thought afterward and he said - "9/10 - that was an ACTION flick!"

Won passes to Red 2 (opens around July 19th) and checked it out yesterday (July 10th). Fun little action-comedy. Crowd seemed to like it (everyone most mostly 20 - 50 in the crowd) compared to other types of screenings wherein the ages can range from 13 - 70. No T&A. Mary-Louise Parker was kinda lame. Catherine Zeta-Jones can get the fuckage. Bruce Willis still doing the action hero thing. John Malkovich for the comic relief. Good to see Anthony Hopkins in anything. Good action sequences with Lee Byung-Hun. I haven't seen the first Red movie, so I'll need to go back and check that one out from recent years. Watch the trailers & gauge if it's for you.
