I know it's awfully early to start doing this, but I was so surprised with Man of Steel. It performed past my expectations.
So now, we wait for the sequel. What's it going to be about, none of us know yet. Here is just my idea...or what I would like to see in the next one.
So the first one, whilst telling a story, was flashback heavy. My idea for this one is that the film has two plots, one told in flashback, and the other told in modern times. The idea is for the plots to weave together into one story.
Plot 1: Several years before Krypton's destruction, a much younger Jor El (of course played by Henry Cavill) is the leading scientist on an archaeological dig on Krypton. While on the dig site, the ground under Jor El collapses and falls into a hidden underground cave.
Curiously, he explores the cavern. In this cave, he finds a large statute of some sort of creature never before seen or recorded in Kryptonian history. After being found by his colleagues, Jor El has the scientists dig up the statue and take it to his lab.
There, Jor El examines and statue the creature, deducing it was from prehistoric Krypton. Further study reveals to Jor El and his wife Lara that the statue is not a statue, but a creature in a stasis sleep or hibernation. Motivated by the knowledge it could bring, Jor El reanimates the creature. Both scared of the unfamiliar world, and motivated by its primal instincts, the beast breaks out of Jor El's lab and rampages across the planet.
Because of it's destructive nature, the Kryptonians dub the monster "Doomsday" (done with CGI and voiced by voice acting legend Frank Welker). Doomsday continues to rampage as Jor El desperately tries to aid the military in subduing the beast.
Eventually Jor El manages to capture Doomsday. He quickly realizes that he'll never learn anything from it. In order to prevent it from causing anymore harm, Jor El finds a way to put it back in stasis. He then imprisons the beast in a meteor and jettisons it into the Phantom Zone.
During MoS: A brief scene is shown from MoS, when Krypton was destroyed and the Phantom Zone deactivating, releasing Zod and his followers. The meteor holding Doomsday travels across the galaxy.
Plot 2: Set 3 years after Man of Steel, the meteor heads toward Earth. With the help of the newly dubbed "Superman," Metropolis has almost been rebuilt. Superman serves as a peacekeeper to the world.
Intrigued by his heritage, Kal takes the damaged Scout Ship (where he first communicated with his father, and was later stolen by Zod) to the North Pole. He finds the remains of the rest of the Kryptonian colony on the moon. He brings these pieces together and establishes a fortress in the North Pole. There, he activates the consciousness of his father yet again, who teaches him about Kryptonian ways and history.
The meteor crashes on Earth, it becomes debris which exposes Doomsday. The yellow sun shines on Doomsday's crystalline body, causing him to glow. The sun recharges him until he awakes.
Perry sends Lois and Clark to investigate the meteor crash. Upon arrival, they find that there is nothing but devastation as far as the eye can see. Following the path of destruction, Clark and Lois both see Doomsday, whose Kryptonian body is enhanced by the single yellow sun. Clark tries to subdue the beast but is beaten badly. Eventually, he manages to knock out the creature. The military intervenes and captures it.
Kal returns to the fortress where the Phantom of his father tells him about his battle with Doomsday. He tells Kal that while he never truly understood the creature, he did manage to learn one thing. Because of the process Jor El used to revive Doomsday, it needs sunlight to survive. He explains that without sunlight, Doomsday would become weak, and if he was deprived long enough, he would go into a hibernation until he was exposed to light and revived. (This was of course after Jor El revived him from his statue state.)
As the military transports Doomsday, he breaks free and rampages toward Metropolis. Clark stops him before he gets there and the two fight again. Clark manages to get the fight to the arctic in time for a snowstorm to his. The black clouds cover the sun, weakening Doomsday. Clark punches him under the ice and into and undersea cave. Doomsday puts up a fight, getting weaker and weaker until he loses consciousness.
With Jor El's aid, Kal reconstructs a sunless prison for Doomsday. He travels deep into the reaches of space, and releases it into the stars.
The film ends as Kal flies back down to earth, with Lois looking on waiting for him.
