I thought about aqua man a few times during MOS. When Jor-El jumped in water, when Clark fell in water off oil rig and the whales swam over him and the bus scene. Best part of MOS was the other justice league hints from Batman, Booster Gold, Kara, Green Lantern, & Cyborg.

I enjoyed it. A worthy reboot. Let's hope they can make better sequels than the original Superman series.

Oh yeah, That Lois lane popping up everywhere was dumb as shit. SOmeone has got to take the director to task for that shit.

Is there a connection to the Galactica series with the Director? A couple of Galactica cast members had noticeable cameo's in the film

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

Saw it last night, I liked it a lot of action which meant a lot of destruction.

The whole time I'm trying to figure out how they will tie the justice league in this. I don't follow the comic books but it will just be kind of weird to see batman and superman in the same movie like this. How in the hell can batman fight the villians that Superman have to deal with?

Maybe I'm missing something here. Overall, good movie now I'm anxious to see who the next villain will be. Like in Avengers, every knows that the main villain is Thanos.

but they obsessed with going over origins for each film.

if you could contrast Superman's upbringing the "welcomed alien/good immigrant" as opposed to Doomsday the "enslaved/dark outsider" you got an epic film where you could actually force the audience to see who your past sins effect your present and future.

Imagine in the middle of the epic battle Superman is bleeding for the first time and is actually challenged, he looks at the humans his "children" actually doubting him...and he asks Doomsday who has been pretty silent so far "Why?" and responds coldly but with conviction and a little confusion...Because THEY made me...I did not want to be here, they dragged me and punished me for BEING but they welcome YOU...So YOU will DIE for THEM.

Like I said earlier there is no need to "darken" Superman his mythology is actually dark enough already.

Uh.... Who are you? You know too damn much.

I believe Batman CAN exist in the same world as Superman.
He just needs an armor upgrade, like Lex Luthor.

Batman's role would be more like a 'general' or 'tactical commander', as seen in this trailer for DC Universe Online...

Despite all the Superpowers and carnage, Batman is one of the few heroes that actually survive, once all the smoke clears.

What were the references to batman and green lantern? I didn't see the Wayne enterprise sign. Is there a screen shot of it some where?

Remember that girl at the end who said that she thinks Superman is “kinda hot”? The name on her uniform was Farris, which should rin a bell, despite the need to substitute a vowel. Captain Carrie Farris is far too close to Carol Ferris, the famed love interest of the Green Lantern

Something was said about a "Trident" in MOS which I assumed was a quick hit towards Aqua-man and with the scene with the whales.

Saw it a couple of hours ago. Great fuckin movie. Everything made sense and came along together. I enjoyed this more than the last two Iron Man movies and maybe even Nolan's Batman trilogy. Avengers is still the best super hero movie because it gave you some of everything. I didn't expect Superman to make wise cracks but just whoop some ass and Kevin Costner & Russell Crowe, & Henry Cavill all gave good performances.

Venom could have been done so much better. Hell, let Nolan oversee a Spiderman vs Venom movie. Give us some flashbacks of Secret Wars.

'Man of Steel' takes flight at box office with $125M debut

LOS ANGELES – "Man of Steel" leaped over box office expectations in a single weekend.
The Warner Bros. superhero film earned $113 million in its opening weekend at the box office, according to studio estimates Sunday. The retelling of Superman's backstory earned an additional $12 million from Thursday screenings, bringing its domestic total to $125 million. Original expectations for "Man of Steel" ranged from $75 million to $130 million.
"They finally got the Superman formula right," said Paul Dergarabedian, an analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com. "Superhero movies really are the bread and butter of the summer box office. The fact that 'Iron Man 3' has the biggest opening of the year so far and 'Man of Steel' has the second biggest opening of the year just proves that."
"Man of Steel," which stars Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, also toppled the record for biggest opening in June held by the Disney-Pixar film "Toy Story 3," which banked $110 million when it opened in 2010. "Superman Returns," the previous Superman film starring Brandon Routh in the titular role, launched with a respectable $52.5 million in 2006.
Sony's "This Is the End" opened in second place behind "Man of Steel" with $20.5 million in its opening weekend. The comedy starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill and Craig Robinson as versions of themselves trapped in a mansion during the apocalypse opened Wednesday, earning a domestic total of $32.8 million. The film cost just $32 million to produce.
"We knew we were going to have competition, but we felt our movie stood on its own and had its own voice," said Rory Bruer, Sony's president of worldwide distribution. "I believe we've absolutely proven that. To have this amount of money in the bank with its cost of production, good reviews and word of mouth really puts our feet on solid ground."
In its third weekend at the box office, the Lionsgate illusionist heist film "Now You See Me" fleeced $10.3 million in third place, bringing its total domestic haul to $80 million. Universal's "Fast & Furious 6" arrived in fourth place with $9.4 million, while the studio's invasion horror film "The Purge" starring Ethan Hawke scared up $8.2 million in the fifth spot.
The super openings of "Man of Steel" and "This Is the End" helped to lift the box office 50 percent over last year when "Madagascar 3" and "Prometheus" held on to the top spots. "Man of Steel" will face off against stiff competition next week when Paramount's zombie thriller "World War Z" and the Disney-Pixar's prequel "Monster's University" both debut.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released on Monday.
1. "Man of Steel," $113 million.
2. "This Is the End," $20.5 million.
3. "Now You See Me," $10.3 million.
4. "Fast & Furious 6," $9.4 million.
5. "The Purge," $8.2 million.
6. "The Internship," $7 million.
7. "Epic," $6 million.
8. "Star Trek: Into Darkness," $5.6 million.
9. "After Earth," $3.7 million.
10. "Iron Man 3," $2.9 million.

:smh::smh:
It already made $190+ million worldwide.

Safe to say, MoS is gonna do solid numbers next weekend again because the 'word of mouth' is better than the critic reviews. (Plus the only big-budget movie coming out next weekend is World War Z.)

The problem with Lex as a villian is that while he is smart as hell he doesn't really make you worry that he can kill Superman. If Supes had the mindset of say Wolverine you really think Lex would be a threat.

You need someone that could kill Superman. Brainiac could. It was obvious that Zod could.

The problem with Lex as a villian is that while he is smart as hell he doesn't really make you worry that he can kill Superman.

The biggest problem is Lex has been held back greatly in movie forms. The best movie take of him was the first Superman film with Gene Hackman, and to a lesser extent Superman 2. He was atrocious in Superman 4, and Spacey's take was just a throwback to Hackman's original take.

Surprisingly, I think the best version of Lex Luthor was portrayed on the "Superman: The Animated Series", and "Justice League" cartoons.

I love Lex. He's delusional believing himself to be the hero, and Superman the villain. He believes that Superman is a hindrance to humans becoming more advanced, yet he decides to use his shrewd mind and all of his resources to destroy Superman, or fight him. Lex Luthor thinking Superman stole the spotlight, and that he needs to be called the smartest person in the World, and the only way for the world to get better is to follow him.

It has been said before if it wasn't for Superman, that Lex would have been the greatest person known living, and that he would have done many great things for humanity. But with Superman around it has become his obsession to show that he is superior to an "Alien Demigod"

A cool blog I ran across

Why Lex Luthor is really the Übermensch, not Superman
Lex Luthor is a character who is the direct opposite to who Superman is and what he stands for. In my opinion, the best way that the Luthor/Superman dichotomy shows brightest is by contrasting Nietzsche’s Übermensch and seeing which character truly is most like Nietzsche’s concept.

One of his most well known, key ideas was the Übermensch which has a number of English translations like Overman (sound familiar?), Superhuman, Above Human and its most common translation, Superman. Nietzsche posited the Übermensch as a goal for humanity to reach in his 1883 book “Thus Spoke Zarathustra.” The basic concept of the is introduced by Nietzsche’s character Zarathustra as the meaning of the earth and admonishes his audience to ignore those who promise other-worldly hopes in order to draw them away from the earth. Nietzsche presents the Übermensch as the creator of new values that ignore the norms of society and introduce a new standard of moral values into the field of play. This starkly contrasts with Superman’s upholding of humanity’s moral values that show the better side of our nature. And Lex basically justifies whatever he wanted to do throughout his long antagonistic relationship with Superman, both as the mad scientist and the scheming industrialist businessman. As Grant Morrison put it in an interview with Wizard Magazine “"He's the part of us that's the most evil, the most human, and the most brilliant. He's great; he's just really bad...” The creation of new moral values point is based on a nihilistic claim that in the absence of a commanding authority, there are no grounds upon which to criticize or justify any action, including the particular values created and the means by which they are spread. In a way, this is how Lex justifies his obsessive crusade against Superman instead of using his mind for more worthwhile purposes. He feels it’s more important he focuses his efforts on correcting humanity’s aspiration of a false value or idol, Superman.

Throughout his book, Nietzsche makes the Übermensch a goal humanity should strive to reach through yet another concept; The Will to Power. It replaces standard interpretations of “compassion” or “goodness” or “piety” as a guiding principle of life. What is it that makes you better? Stronger, smarter, richer or more important? Do those things and become better. That’s the Will to Power, and that’s the principle that Lex Luthor lives by, for the most part. His wealth, his intellect and his power have been grasped at by Lex throughout his entire life of fighting his way to the top of the ladder, becoming the executive of one of the most powerful industries the DC Earth has. Yet everything Lex owns pales in comparison with Superman. For all the moral and philosophical advancements Nietzsche proposes in the Übermensch, the irony is that Superman actually can do anything he wants. He could take over the world, run riot, live on his terms. There are a plethora of ways Superman could have lived his life on Earth. But the defining thing about Superman is that he is a physically superior specimen to a human, even the Übermensch in every conceivable way–and yet he lives his life according to a moral code instilled in him by physically and intellectually inferior beings. It is willingness to selflessly uphold these codes and act as a paragon of morality which makes the arch rivalry with Lex Luthor even better. Lex is driven by sheer ambition and hatred of Superman and endeavors to transcend beyond humanity’s limitations whereas Superman abides within the limits of what we consider right and wrong.

Lex Luthor really is the ultimate man–a man who can and has achieved all and more that a man is capable of. And yet he is always going to be seen as inferior to Superman, whose power is not an expression of will, but a simple accident of birth. Luthor’s hatred is born of resentment; if the alien had never come to earth, Lex Luthor would be the greatest man who’d ever lived.

All in all, Lex Luthor can't really compete with the mythical figure of Superman; people place their hopes and dreams in Superman precisely because he is more than human. This struggle with what Lex Luthor wants to be versus what he can actually accomplish is one that defines his character, and this inner conflict is what causes him to hate Superman so passionately. Here the Will of Power arises again and once again it drives Luthor’s obsession over his limits and Superman’s seeming lack of any. If it weren’t for Lex’s obsessive quest for supremacy over a god like alien, we would not just have one of the greatest fictional villains in history but one of the greatest fictional rivalries in fictional history too.

"Lex Luthor: Man of Steel"
Lex_Luthor_Man_of_Steel_1.jpg

I love this part. Luthor says he's humanity's true hero, and that Superman is a menace and an alien. He demands a response, and then gets one that completely and utterly destroys him.
Lex1.jpg

lex-luthor-man-of-steel-05-page-24.jpg

Lex3.jpg

Lex is the best of human accomplishment and worst of human hubris. He really is a fascinating character because he truly believes that he is the best of humanity, ambition unbound by attachment or morality. In his mind people should strive to be him not, Superman. In Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, we see Superman the way Lex does, a enigmatic alien whose most noticeable feature is the inhuman in his terrifying red glowing eyes. Lex honestly believes that Superman is bad for the world. What is the most interesting is that with all his justifications, one could boil down his deep seeded resentment of Superman to simple obsessive envy.

There really is a fundamental tragedy to the character, he could do great things. He could help so many people, turn the word into a utopia. However, his resentment has driven him to single-minded obsession with destroying Superman to prove to the world that Lex is the one worthy of adoration. Lex Luthor: Man of Steel perfectly illustrates that. I think we are meant to believe that he honestly loved Hope, but he was forced to give her up in favor of vilifying Superman.

I think if done right, Lex Luthor could be totally re-imagined and be even more epic than "The Dark Knight" version on The Joker.

Imagine a Luthor being like a modern day Daniel Plainview( from "There Will Be Blood") with an obsession to expose Superman for the fraud/threat that Luthor believes he is.

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

I prefer Brainiac in the sequel....

It may be a two prone villain in the next 2 movies if they decide to do the Batman route.

Have Luthor as a main antagonist in the second one while show glimpse of Brainiac working in the background.

Last one should be about Doomsday.

One thing hit me while I was watching this movie. The main reason why making JLA would be hard is that there's not a central character that brings these heroes together.

I think we sometimes do not understand the depth of importance, Nick Fury actually has. Last time I checked, DC does not have a central character like that *I don't believe*.

Once again, in a nutshell, is how Lex feels when he sees Superman
lex-luthor-and-superman-1.jpg

He knows for all of his technical, humanitarian, and academic achievements he will still be considered "inferior" to Superman (in his mind).

Hmmm...

What you've posted is very interesting. IF they could really produce a serious LL I would be all for it. But, I'm really skeptical they could pull it off. Also the thing that has always held Superman back is his unwillingness to take life. It's why him killing ZOD in MOS was such a big deal. A Superman that willing to kill takes everything off the table when it comes to dealing with LL.

For a story to work with LL it would have to be VERY smart, VERY!Extremely well written
