Official Chicago Bears Off-Season Thread

I was thinking the same thing about Campbell

I think with Cutler's impending free agency and the market for starting QB's, we're going to try and do something...but it's a bad year for QB's

Bears | Might be open to Brian Urlacher return

Tue, 02 Apr 2013 18:59:12 -0700

Chicago Bears team chairman George McCaskey indicated Wednesday, April 3, that the team might be open to a return for free-agent LB Brian Urlacher (Bears). "I talked to him. He was very gracious. I wanted to wait a little bit because I figured there would be a little emotion," McCaskey said. "But Brian knows how we feel about him. He's one of the all-time great Bears. He's continued the outstanding linebacker legacy of the Bears. He's going to be in the Hall of Fame, and when he is, everyone is going to think of him as a Chicago Bear."

I really think Urlacher is coming back. I don't think there's a market for him.

The same money he turned down. I could see him splitting time. Maybe be a first and second down situational linebacker splitting time.

At this point its like a bad breakup. Best to part ways for good. They signed decent talent at LB, lets role with that and draft a long term solution.

Brain didnt just turn down the offer and leave, he wanted to throw salt on his way out. Now hes not getting much of any offers and he wants back in??? Shit like this is why you dont burn bridges. Id rather see him in GB than in a Bears uni again. Im not saying the Bears did right by him, they couldve done something differently, but he went on ESPN and talked slick instead of be a pro and a man about the shit airing internals to the press.

Bears | Brandon Marshall likes new offense

Wed, 10 Apr 2013 07:38:59 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall said he likes what he has seen so far from the team's offensive scheme under new head coach Marc Trestman. Marshall and TE Martellus Bennett convened at Marshall's home after receiving their new playbook on team-issued iPads. The two pulled different-colored pieces from board games, simulated some formations and plays, then quizzed one another. "Oh, my gosh, I'm in love with it," Marshall said. "Martellus and I sat down and went through the formational stuff and started challenging each other. It was exciting to go through, and it's pretty cool to have a partner." Marshall feels the scheme will spread the wealth around. "It's so stimulating and it gets everyone involved, and that's exciting to me," Marshall said. "Because the better Alshon (Jeffery) is, the better I'll be. The better Earl (Bennett) is, the better Martellus will be. The better Martellus is, the better Matt Forte will be. And so on and so forth. It's just awesome."

Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall (hip) is excited to start the 2013 season healthy. Marshall had his hip scoped in January in order to have as much time as possible to get ready for 2013. "The good thing about the procedure I got done and when I got it done is, I got it done at the start of the offseason, and when you're able to do something like that, you can take your time with it," Marshall said. "You can afford to be cautious. It's about working smarter, and I probably could have started weeks ago, but no rush. We don't play games until September. As long as I'm in top shape then, that's all that matters."

Thxs for keeping this thread up to date. Ive been to heavy into the Bulls to really keep up with things.

I must admit with the Rose injury.... I stopped paying attention to the Bulls. What you think their chances are in the playoffs??
:smh:

and anyone have any thoughts on who the bears will draft with the first rnd? Ive heard Chance Warmack or one of the other guards could fall to us. Arthur Brown is being thrown around a lot as is Ogletree...

I'd love for Tavon Austin to fall to us by some miracle.

We're gonna play either the Nets or Knicks in rd1. Depending on how healthy Noah and Taj are...I think we can advance to at least the second round no matter which one we play. But after that...we might have the play miami or the Pacers. things are up in the air at that point. Mainly because we dont score consistently.

Eben Britton..... WELCOME TO THE CLUB BIG FELLA!!!

90861873_display_image.jpg

2009+NFL+Scouting+Combine+Day+3+UxlsKJ5IP52l.jpg

So much for Eben Britton’s visit with the Seahawks.

The former Jaguars second-round pick worked out for Seattle recently, but he’s landed a contract with a different NFC team. The Bears announced Tuesday that they have signed Britton to a one-year deal.

Britton started five games at left guard for the Jaguars in 2012, but finished the season on the bench in favor of the undrafted rookie Mike Brewster. Britton began his stint in Jacksonville as a right tackle, but was kicked inside after injuries and ineffectiveness forced him out of that role.

While discussing Bears quarterback Jay Cutler a short time ago, we made reference to the competition going on for several offensive line spots in Chicago. The Bears refer to Britton as a guard and tackle in their release about his signing, which means he could wind up fitting in any of three spots with the Bears. Coach Marc Trestman said Tuesday that the team is mostly looking at Gabe Carimi as a guard, which would put him into a mix with Matt Slauson and James Brown while J’Marcus Webb and Jonathan Scott compete at right tackle.

Britton could wind up in either pot as the Bears continue to pile up options they hope will lead to a more effective unit than they’ve had in recent years.

Trestman, Bears wrap up minicamp early

By Dan Pompei, Tribune reporter

2:59 PM CDT, April 18, 2013

Minicamp went so well for the Chicago Bears that new coach Marc Trestman ended the third and final practice early Thursday.

“We had a really good three days,” Trestman said. “The guys have worked really hard. They have run hard here and I wanted to make sure we left with no pulls or any injured players.”

The Bears ran only 40 plays in practice Thursday, 60 fewer from what they ran Tuesday. But there was a hitch. Trestman said the players did not know what plays they were running until Thursday.

“They had to learn everything in the installation knowing that each group was only going to get ten reps,” he said. “The first got 10, the second got 10, the third got 10. They had to run everything not knowing what was coming today and I thought they did a very good job.”

Two of the Bears’ mainstays were absent, as Brandon Mashall and Henry Melton did not make it. Trestman indicated both contacted the team saying they were having storm-related issues.

The minicamp also offered Trestman to get acquainted with his players on the field.

“No doubt everything we’re doing is part of player evaluation,” he said. “Their demeanor, how they handle individual, how we meet with them. It’s all part of the evaluation process as we put our football team together. And every day is a job interview for every guy. We want to put them in a position where they have the fundamentals and skills to be able to master their craft on a daily basis.”

Trestman said he is looking forward to working more with players in meeting rooms next week, though the collective bargaining agreement prohibits practices.

“Next week we’ll cut up the tape by concept and we’ll begin to re-teach everything when we have more time to do that,” he said. “We did it quickly in meetings and out here… We’ll spend time with each and every concept and really start honing in on the details of it.”

Trestman also indicated he is deep in draft preparation. He said he will spend the weekend and part of next week with general manager Phil Emery watching tape.

NOTE: The Bears waived guard Chris Riley, who has yet to appear in a game during stints in Chicago, Cincinnati and Tampa Bay.

I'm loving the way he is running camp... looks good so far.

What do you all think of the schedule?

BearsSched.png

I'm not sure about our schedule

I'm glad we start off with two home games

The NFC East is the hardest division

And we got two teams who weren't good last year in Pittsburgh and New Orleans, but might be good this year

Our schedule seems harder than our record last year

If Marc freshman doesn't get 10-6 or better there was no reason to fire lovie IMHO

TO and Beast Marshall with Jeffery and bennet's

I want a QB in the draft also to light a fire under cutler soft brittle ass

I love our future with the talent we have

And complex NFC least is a joke

We havent played sheli manning in 4 years and we own the shegurlz and fagboys. Deadskins prolly have Kirk cousins playing after RG3 goes down or gets pulled.

Man if you aint going to pay Urlacher... dont pay TO. He had all the chance in Seattle and did nothing with it. Him and MOSS are DONE unfortunately.

As far as QB. Usually, new coaches pick up a QB to groom. But idk if they are confident in this class. They like Barkley so I guess if they can trade down they will use one of the extra picks on him.

I see them at 8-8 if they are lucky. It's going to be tough with a new head coach and new system too. If they take care of the division though... they can get in the playoffs. I'll wait till the draft to see how the roster is looking.

I thought teams were supp to finish with division games in Dec now? Only division game we have the last month is vs GB..Wtf?

Call me crazy...but I see us going 11-5 on the season. but only if the players adjust to the new scheme of things early on in the season.

I see us losing the opening game vs the bengels...vs the saints....giants, @packers (only once) and vikings after the bye.

Bears | Brandon Marshall mentors Alshon Jeffery

Sun, 21 Apr 2013 20:48:07 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery accepted an invitation to train with WR Brandon Marshall in South Florida at Fit Speed Athletic Performance, a training facility co-founded by Marshall and his longtime trainer. "I just wanted to learn from someone different and do thing different," Jeffery said Sunday, April 21. "Plus, he's a Pro Bowl player. I want to see what it takes." When he arrived at Fit Speed, Jeffery weighed in at 225 pounds with a body fat percentage of 11 or 12 percent. When he checked out a few weeks ago, Jeffery weighed 219 pounds with eight percent body fat.

Fantasy Tip: The dedication and hard work is good news for Jeffery, as conditioning was one of the biggest knocks on him coming out of South Carolina. He has big-play ability, and could be a solid WR2/3 or flex fantasy option in 2013 if he continues to work hard.

Bears | Robbie Gould welcomes competition

Mon, 22 Apr 2013 05:57:52 -0700

Chicago Bears PK Robbie Gould (leg) was at last week's mini-camp, but he did not kick. Gould welcomes the challenge presented when the team signed PK Austin Signor. "I'm excited about it, I really am," Gould said. "Competition is healthy, at every position, and it only makes all the players better. Hopefully I can learn a little bit from Austin, and he can learn a little bit from me. This is exactly what the Bears are supposed to do. All good organizations create competition. It's healthy. I'm looking forward to it. Competition brings out the best in everybody."

I really think Alshon is gonna beast. Hell, all the WR should since we finally have competent, respected offensive minds.

Marshall-Jeffrey and the Bennetts in between :itsawrap:

I also thinks that's a good look for Rodriguez in this offense. Hope they use him like SF uses Delaney Walker..

If the Oline improves the way I expect... Man listen!!! Im super excited about the offense next season!!!

Draft night nuccas

Im kinda excited, bucause I don't think we can go wrong. I hope we go OLine or LB at 20, depending on who's there. But I'm also hearing The ViQueens want Teo REAL bad, bad enough to possibly trade up a few spots with us to get him. If we can get their 1 and 3, haaawman!

I've heard nothing of this guard except he was Bowie longs son.......I guess we will see but nothing struck me about him as yeah he's going to be a solid starter, kind of like the de we got last year, wtf did he do for us

Still scratching my head over this pick..... I honestly think that they panicked with the amount of Olinemen that were drafted earlier the round. He is a project but O coordinator/olineman coach Aaron Kromer is proven to be able to take undrafted linemen and turn them into pro bowlers. This should work out well.

I just dont know how quickly the turn around will be on the investment.

Bears | Kyle Long selected 20th overall

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 19:23:24 -0700

The Chicago Bears selected Oregon OG Kyle Long with the 20th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: The ongoing efforts to give Jay Cutler time to throw continue. It'll help his worth in this creative offense that makes him one of the most intriguing fringe QB1 assets. He's still safer to draft as a backup, though.

Fri, 26 Apr 2013 05:38:44 -0700

I thought we should have traded down

I didn't understand the pick, because he's a year or two away most likely. You draft players in the first round who you think can help your team now.

We only have five picks.

I heard that Emery said they expect him to contribute immediately.

The one thing you have to keep in mind (and I admit, I was guilty of overlooking this momentarily) is that our Ofensive system will be a bit diff this year. I know we had West Coast concepts last season, but I think Trestman is OG West Coast at heart. After watching Long's film, the dude looks like he is an OUTSTANDING pulling left guard to me. Really athletic and quick footed..based on that, I can see him playing this season.

Having said that, I wouldn't have been mad if they would've traded down for more picks either, and maybe still have gotten him later. But if Emery-Trestman-Kromer & Co did their hw and decided that that was their guy, Ill trust them for now.
