Actually, they're sold in Toys R Us. There's a collectibles aisle now.
The only question I always ask myself is that if Django was written,produced and directed by someone black would it have the same buzz, financing, and hype? I already know the answer but you all have to be ready for this movie to be #1 at the box office and trust me alot, too many, white people hate to see black people and especially black males as the hero in a flick
So why would it be #1?... A Black man IS a hero in this film. I don't think it will be #1 at the BO.. It'll be a close second to Les Misérables.
With out QT's name, it wouldn't even crack the Top 10, or play in as many theaters as it will. QT being the auteur of the flick makes White folks feel safe going to see it. Same flick with Spike Lee at the helm is a bomb at the BO.
I think just that fact that it is a QT movie and an action movie. I could be wrong but I have that feeling, if anything the Hobbit would repeat as box office champ rather than Les Misérables

lol did you see the movie? do you think film makers make the exact same movie twice? do you remember the first scene of ib? they gun down a fam of jews. do you remember all the shit that was said by the hunter of jews on jews? do you know qt was crying during certain scenes of his own movie? you think the white redneck south wants to see a movie about a freed slave killing white folk? have you watch 70s blaxploitation?
the big difference from Inglorious Basterds and Django is IB is a WAR movie not a HOLOCAUST film..at no point did we see the Basterds run across an concentration camp and liberate the malnourished jews being tortured there. If there was a scene like that or the basis of the film was in that would it have been greenlit? The fact that QT could do a film about jews in WW2 specifically and skip the holocaust is curious to consider.
if Tarantino had given IB the exact same treatment as DU then:
*the film would have taken place in Auschwitz.
* there would have been brutal scenes of jews being horribly abused and naked
*the girl who owned the movie theater in the film would be a double agent collaborator with the nazis in an effort to set them up at the camp somehow. She would have most likely been the jumpoff fuck toy of the camp commandant (the master).
*The girl is having an affair with a black man at the camp (there were africans in germany at the time of nazi rule they were experimented on first) and they both collude to take down the commandant (the Hans Landa character retooled here)
* the basterds would have had to pull a raid on the place liberate the jews and execute commandant Landa
And yes it would have to take place in a concentration camp and we would HAVE to see jews being put into ovens. We see the harsh portrayal of american slavery and thats a major factor in motivating all the characters so it would have to be in a parallel version of IB.
now THAT story is closer to Django than the original Inglorious Basterds..but do you honestly think the Studio heads like Harvey WEINSTEIN would green lite the realistic portrayal of a harsh concentration camp in whats basically a fictional action flick??

The first movie only bigger. but in this case rick spanish made a comparison of the two...i was just saying in order for them to be comparable they would need the same kinds of things to happen namely a recreation of the evil institution of the holocaust for the jews. to actually see a concentration camp recreated in the film. I think QT COULD have gone there in IB if he wanted to but he avoided it becuz he knows jews would NOT have appreciated that specific element being used for a shoot em up in a fictitious story.

yes he referred to and compared jews to rats. Which was a popular slur nazis used as well as swine..but it wasn't said over 100 times..another point of comparison in that in nazi germany rats was a common insult just as common as ****** was in the south but somehow it wasn't used as often in the film..in fact QT went out his way to find a scene in which to insult blacks a couple of times in IB.

if QT wanted to make a story of a black man in early america kicking white ass he could have done it a few ways.
1. A nat turner-esqe slave revolt where django on his own accord and machinations with a number of escaped slaves kills a slave owner and takes back his wife and they both escape (since its fiction).
2. django buys his own freedom and having failed to get his wife goes on a vengeful rampage and takes down a planatation and frees his wife with little to no white assistance.
3. QT wanted to make a western..so then make a WESTERN. Django is a bounty hunter in the WEST, somewhere in arizona or montana (classic john ford western scenery not antebellum south) who's wife is kidnapped and he and his partner (can be a white man here) has to track her down before they can bring her back to the south and its a race against time and distance.
Now any of those alternatives would probably be met with less blacklash than now..of course the word ****** would STILL be heard 1000 times but you can't have everything
the question is do you think any of those alternatives would have gotten green lit??

And this thing about ****** being in the script 100 times is the biggest misconception ever. May even be a flat out lie because unless someone says in 95 times in the Final Act, I don't see it in the script like that(I'm like 100 pages into the 168 page script).

it's a film set in slave times so wtf do u expect slaveowners to call slaves? from what i've heard of the film, it's a flick about a newly freed slave killing off 'wicked' white men and slave masters, and also shows the dude looking for his wife. seems like jb's 'big payback' set to film and in a civil war era time. if jamie were 'cooning' then i could see the outcry. but it sounds like his character is strong and very much his own man.
but i'll see when the flick comes out then make a decision on if it was bullsheit or not. and while i respect spike and really like all his films (even girl 6
