Spike Lee Talks "Django Unchained"

I read every post in this thread, then listened to Spike. He sounds bitter and small. I can't go with him on this one, while I'm not keen on white people using the n-word, I am keen on a brother killing them after they say it. I approve of that message. I'm less troubled by this than I was about "The Help.".

As for Spike, i wish he would just make a movie that I want to watch.

It's sad that you guys don't get it. Slavery did not have a happy ending. To expect to go to a movie theater watch two hours of your black people being raped and murder (which really happened) to then be happy at the end when a fictional black man (a character invented by a white man) kills a couple of white men is borderline retarded. So what Django killed a bunch of white men did he end slavery did he change a law or give us basic human rights. No he murdered like the white man murdered and you cheer for that.

I can't understand the level of idiocy some of you posses. I think when they stopped teaching black history in school some of you have no idea what really went down.

I have not seen one movie depicting slavery that I was happy at the end.

yeah man cats are offended by a movie in which a slave kills a bunch of racist white people and comes out on top at the end

Hell I'll watch cause of that alone and it will probably as close as we will ever get to our Nat Turner Rebellion motion picture.

Let's see...

QT has made some of the most entertaining exciting movies I've ever seen...

Spike Lee has made some of the most pretentious boring pieces of shit in the long history of a medium filled with boring pretentious pieces of shit...

Who should I listen to...? Hmm....Such a hard choice...

I love QT films, I may even have all of them. I love some of Spike's work too, though, they may not be the most entertaining.
But this is about RESPONSIBILITIES. How many black directors do you see adding disrespectful scenes about CACs in their movies? I bet they would be blacklisted in a quickness. QT is ignorant when it comes to this ****** issue and it's getting real old. He needs to just focus on his great work and chill in the ****** business.

i'm a fan of spike and his movies but that dude has a problem with people coming up with a film idea before him.

so jungle fever was fine with the ancestors???

I have to agree so what its a controversial film. Did he forget about Bamboozled? :smh:

Peace,

Denzel did step to him when they brought in QT to help with some dialogue scenes in Crimson Tide featuring Denzel and Gene Hackman. I think it may be that one about Lippizaner stallions. Anyway, Denzel felt QT over uses the word and I have to agree. I'm one of the greatest fan of QT's artistic work. Lately I have had to pay close attention. Some of his ****** scenes in his movies are uncalled for. In Reservoir Dogs there was a scene in the car where the CACs were talking about black men always beating on their women. Of course in Pulp Fiction, there was the - "the dead ****** sign in my driveway" scene. He didn't direct the movie "True Romance" but he wrote the script. There was a scene where Dennis Hopper's character talked about how Italians had ****** blood in them from back in the day and that was why they have darker skin and black hair. The remark pissed off the bad guy (Christopher Walken) who then shot him several times. Anyway, Dude is really obsessed with ******. Clearly he has no understanding of black people so he puts in the his hearsay and biased crap in his movies. I think It takes away from him being on the most gifted directors/story tellers.
Black actors with prestige like Denzel,Morgan Freeman, Whitiker, Fishburn will not act in QT's films. They feel they have a responsibility on how they are portrayed in movies. I think Will Smith has politely turned down QT a few times too.

Definitely agree. Let's not forget how he needed to emasculate the Marsellus Wallace character by allowing him to get raped by rednecks. Tarantino has some issues.

Another thing that some of these cats don't realize is that Tarantino is pandering to his white, neo-hipster audience - most of whom are gleeful consumers of his racist language and imagery.

What iggs me a little too is that they're releasing this film on Christmas...my curiosity will get the best of me and I will dl it but that's not putting any $$$ in his pocket

eh im going to see it
but im going to see it in a black neighborhood i don't trust going to the movies where there will be lots of white people ANYMORE
no no never again :smh:

they do this shit
they need to do nat turner
if i won the lottery i'd finance that movie my got damn self

This shit. Please forward this to Spike, I would love to see this if it could get made.

And Temujin, shut up when grown folks are talking.

Let's see...

Heroin feels good....by your thinking its good for you too.

You do realize bamboozled was a satire. A satire that ironically explains exactly why Django should be offensive. lol

Yes and it was considered controversial by many. As were movies like Kentucky Fried Movie and Putney Swope all which I liked, for what they were. I will probably go see this movie.

man I can't believe sometimes how people don't ride for Spike, considering how much he has done for Black cinema...

in saying that I don't plan on seeing the movie either...simply because I look at it like this, why do I need to see a movie in the early eras of America 1800 that is ONLY slavery based, couple with the bullshit Lincoln biopic.

why can't I see a movie about the Haitian independence, Yanga or Victor Guererro in Mexico, what about a story about the building of Washington DC , and interpretation of the Ethiopian wars, Mansa Musa's travels to Mecca...shit something more than Django the "D" is silent, as if he is some cool as shaft pre 1970's or some shit

our children, and the way this thread is going MOST OF OUR ADULTS need something historically inspiring, and seeing a women beaten to the ground, men whipped in 2012..just isn't somting im paying $10 for

we get to see multiple ancient european remakes, love stories, alexander, rome etc...give me more than another slave flick, especially made by Tarantino

you do know this is sort of a remake of the old django movie right??
uh no i didn't bruh

Django

shoulda figured tho

tarantino is a known thief

:smh::smh::smh:

and yeah i agree with spike

i know my peoples will b turnin over in their grave when i walk my ass in there

From what I see this seems to be the a Black man's version of Inglorious Basterds. And if it does what that movie did for the Jewish fantasy of killing Nazi's then I'm all for it. I've seen enough movies where the Black character fights through slavery, gets all types of fucked up, happy ending or not, I've seen enough movies where the Black man was somehow subjugated and "rose to the top" taking the high road. Ive seen enough of that story. Let me see another angle where a Black Man exacts the SAME shit on them as they did on US. Fuck the "Don't stoop to their level" bullshit. Complacent asses. I wanna watch 2 hours of a slave killing slave masters. Fuck the depressing shit alla time. You'd rather Amistad??? Black man always looking for peace. FUCK PEACE!!

i love Spike. And i respect his opinion. But i didn't get the impression this movie was a comedy or something making light of slavery. i thought it was more or less along the lines of a black inglorious basterds. :dunno:

Ban me and you niggas are supporting a cracker who have used the n-word over 600 times!

Fuck you!

You and that nigga are nothing more then coons!
man, look at the pic you posted in response to Temujin's rant...

was that your way of cosigning him?

Peace,

You brought up some good points here. There are some sub texts regarding black men being raped. That is crazy!!

Your right who needs reparations you coons have Django lol

We are talking about a movie how the fuck did reparations get into this? You like one of those idiots waiting for hand outs and keep blaming the white man why you aren't successful and live in a dump because you think success or money will come to you magically one day.

For all the coons who love this honky and his right hand tom!

YOU FELT THE ANCESTORS WATCHING US."

E-militants out deep tonight.

"Hey fellas I want to see a spaghetti western place in the deep south where the protagonist- a black man-avenges the death of his kidnapped wife by killing a fuck ton of white people!"

E-militant: " I ain't going to watch that cOOn ass shit! And if anyone one black who supports it is a cOOn of the first degree!"

"Wait what? WHY????"

E-militant: "Cause Spike Lee said so- he feels he would be disrespecting his ancestors in seeing it."

"Disrespects his ancestors? A MOVIE ABOUT A SLAVE KILLING WHITE PEOPLE IS DISRESPECTFUL???"

E-militant: "Well the movie uses the word nigga alot. And is not an accurate depiction of the time and/or shows it in a bad light."

"Considering the movie is set in the South during the height of slavery I would feel the term would be used quite freely. Bad light? The fuck do you think SLAVERY WAS?"

E-militant: "Well Tarintino uses the word frivolously in his films."

"Where are you cats when Scorsese makes his movies? Hell he rips blacks in everyone of his films MOST IN THE OPENING SCENES (The Departed) while the film will have nothing to do with black in general (" Let's just write in 'I hate ni66ers ' and.....ACTION!"). Yet all I hear is how awesome The Departed and Good fellas were. He gets a pass?"

E-militant: "Well...I'm not going to see it."

"And that's your right but that doesn't make me a cOOn cause I want to. Want to see a movie about a slave killing white folks by the way."

E-militant: ....

"Be cool baby, as soon as you get ready to storm the powers that be you give me a call and I'll be the first one down front giving it to whitey. Until then.... Relax nigga."

Mansa Musa and the Ethiopian wars movies, I would like to see

Spike Lee is one of those Kats that would speak his mind no matter what.. so folks should expect that. He may go overboard sometimes but he speaks the truth for the most part. He says some things some of us are saying here on the board. Somebody has to check at these fools that act like our heritage and history doesn't matter.

Is why I'm seeing it.

Hell I might bring my camera and bootleg the bitch just so I can start my days with the shit!:D

I won't watch it simply because Tarintino is always on some recycled bullshit... although some of his movies were cool, most of them were remakes of other movies or had so many elements from other movies that I would simply watch the original.
Another thing I hate are time pieces... and as usual, the same ones which defended that other bullshit movie about the maids, are at it again, trying to be endearing to this flick... People, especially Europeans and those which think like them, don't really think anything of it, but these are the same ones which won't take the time to see the ramifications of what they are talking about in this romanticized bull with
slavery
rape
murder
racism [after all, time piece]
-which allows for the abuse or satisfy the their obsession with watching non whites get tortured, abused

basically, its the usual QT movie, like Tyler Perry which assaults black males on a constant basis, nearly all of QTs movies simply abuse blacks.

His shit is a download... Rather pay money to hear our regurgitated opinions from Tariq Elite than anything QT or TP put out, at least its for something productive.

But, this is only of my opinion... the rest of you do what you want.

Someone mentioned Django Unchained is like Inglorious Basterds. To a point it is. But the issue is - Unlike the holocaust, Slavery stories and history have been swept under the rug for so many years. Besides Roots, there aren't many movies dealing with slavery. There are thousands of EPIC movies about the Nazi/Jew Holocaust, even Spelberg got in the action. So Inglorious Basterds with alternate funny story is okay.
White folks want to act like slavery didn't happen. This great nation was built on the backs of slaves, without them, it won't be where it is today. For folks not to talk about it and omit from school books and history books is a slap in the face.
The slavery topic is very sensitive to most and rightfully so. Because Jamie Fox character goes around and kills white people serves as a justification for all the crap and injustice done to black people? Fuck No.

I know i shouldn't quote the whole post but fuck it. Shit is funny. And on point.

Don't expect much insight on slavery from this film...having read the script you won't find much if any from what I recall...Inglorious Basterds didn't really offer much insight into the Holocaust and was historically inaccurate being that it took place in an alternate universe...but I agree that there def ain't too many flicks about slavery/the slave trade...prior to seeing Amistad the last movie I saw about the subject was Sankofa when it came out years ago...don't remember it being a particularly memorable movie either

I will see the movie so I can have more insight.
