For those looking for an alternate keyboard try "SwiftKey 3" FREE. You can link it to your facebook, twitter, etc.. and it memorizes your typing/talking style so when you're typing in most cases it predicts the next word you're gonna use

 
Y'all better root that m'fer. I've been running Jelly Bean for a couple of weeks now. I'm not even thinking about going back to stock.

I'm too afraid to root it just yet, with my iphone BenQ was my hand holder on it and I don't want to void my warranty, I've only had the phone a month. So I'm trying to wait.

Theres ways to root without voiding your warranty theres away where it doesn't trip the counter http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687

It was kind of nerve racking when I first rooted an android phone it was my beloved nexus one I'll also see if there's a step by step video. .

installing roms - customization
free tethering
backup the entire OS (apps, settings, etc).
Getting an OS that hasnt been released by your carrier.

Jellybean , custom roms ,custom themes , like for instance I have Gmail v 4.2 which has slide to delete and zoom in & out email capabilities...It basically gives you freedom to do whatever you like to your phone..

There are too many benefits to rooting. I would tell you if you are not a person that likes to play with tweaking stuff, don't do it. Leave it stock. You can still run stock, but there are many many many tweaks you can do to the phone as well as limit other things.

Like I can overclock my processor and lower the voltage which in turn lets the phone run longer because the voltage is lowered on the CPU's. You can increase the speed of the network you are running on, like on LTE.

But just know, IF you do root and install another ROM, please read thoroughly the threads about the ROM and the problems people experience using it. As with any developer ROM's you will have minor bugs as they are brand new "developments". As for Samsung, you are lucky that CyanogenMod is made by a guy Steve Kondik who works as developer at Samsung on Android. CyanogenMod is a typical base ROM that other developers merge and make their own from, sort of like a foundation.

CM9 is CyanogenMod version 9 which is ICS (Ice Cream Sadwich) Android 4.0

CM10 is JB (JellyBean), running Android 4.1.2

Most developer ROM's look and act nothing like stock, as far as icons and speed.

If you want to unroot the phone, you can always do so and reset the counter which is what the carrier looks at to see if it was ever rooted. They can never tell.

Also the most important app you will or should own for rooting is Titanium Backup. I reinstall all my apps and data whenever I usually install a new ROM. Everything gets reinstalled with all log ins and all like nothing within about an hour of restoring with Titanium Backup. My slowest part of the restore is my SMS messages, but not the apps.
 
^^^in addition, some of the developers of these roms, have already removed the bloatware for you.

Does rooting your phone increase signal strength. Especially in areas where the signal maybe weak? And do you get free tethering with doing that? I have T-Mobile.

You would have to do your own search for T-Mobile. I posted earlier in this thread how to increase speeds on AT&T LTE. As for tethering, yes you can turn it on. It's not "free" service. You are using your data plan, but it is a selection in my options to turn it on, so no software to buy for $50 or anything, it's part of the settings.

Also some crazy shit I never knew the phones could do was the NFC, how you touch phones back to back to share data, it's the same technology that can read the credit cards data in your wallet. Luckily I have none currently, but used it on old cards that I had from Chase, and the shit works.

Ok, is there a sprint work around?

I rooted my Nook color and had a blast fucking with it, but some of the tweaks they had for my Evo killed shit like the 4g, so I never rooted it. I'm ready to hit the deep end again though. :yes:
