you cannot have your pets near any body of water in Florida

"The American is one of the larger crocodile species. Males can reach lengths of 6.1 m (20 ft), weighing up to 907 kg (2,000 lb).[5] On average, mature males are more in the range of 4.1 m (13 ft) to 4.8 m (16 ft) in length weighing about 400 kg (880 lb).[6] As with other crocodile species, females are smaller; rarely exceeding 3.8 m (12 ft) in length."

Funny cause when I read this post in was like....'how you feel about not living with gators is like how white people live with no threat of police officers and the thought of ALERT is a foreign concept to them'.

Environment effects you...

*two cents*

Yes. I would go as far as to say that environment and time are the biggest players. My grandmother is 87 and was born into the Jim Crow south in a small southern town. To her, the world today beyond any comprehension I could think of. Society has changed nearly 5 times over throughout her life.

So when I see white supremacy at work, I'm reminded about how much control they have to shape society a particular way. They are even navigating the changing times to hold on to that control. Yet, you still have a lot of the lower class that refuse to step outside their bubble and look at the alternate perspective.

I actually wouldn't. I grew up in Buffalo, on Lake Erie. Have gone fishing plenty of times in my life, have only been in FL for 7 years and got hip to the "assume there is a gator there" mindset whenever I see a body of water anywhere here just after moving.

Absolutely. It's the same mindset I would have if I went to a fresh water beach up north vs jumping into the Atlantic. I dont think about sharks if/when I swim in a lake up north, but if i jump in the Gulf or Atlantic, i stay close to the shore. Fuck that.

 Further proving how my own ignorance and assumptions that you've lived in Florida all your life affected your caution about gators. You're experience living elsewhere gives you a broader perspective in life when it comes to fishing, hence I didn't know what the hell I was talking about when I said that you would be cautious. Lol. It's not that you're cautious, it's your experience in multiple environments and that you treat each one of them differently.

But I hope you see where I am coming from when it comes to people how environment plays such a huge role in mindset.

Most definitely. The comforts some feel in their environment doesn't always translate however.

Remember almost two years ago, the story of the little kid who was attacked/killed by gators at a Disney resort, wading in knee deep water? The family was from the mid west I think, and were ignorant to the dangers of Florida waters.

The first thing my wife and I said to one another when we heard the news was "WTF were they doing wading in water that wasn't at a water park/pool/wading pool?"...they learned the hard way unfortunately.

Gators don't give a shit if you are visiting Mickey, they will take you of they see an opportunity.

That's an old video, at least 5 years old. I always wondered why I never saw young people water skiing or jet skiing on those inland lakes. Makes sense!

Its not just in Florida anymore. Gators have been migrating north into Georgia for the past decade I've seen them myself. An don't forget they've existed in South Carolina for decades especially in the Santee-Cooper.

My point is people need to be more aware of any waters they're near in the southeast. Especially with pets and children.

I'm just getting a little philosophical, so don't mind me, but your comment got me thinking.

By you saying "just something we are use too" was exactly what I meant by how environment affects our mind state.

Gators is something I don't worry about at all becuase we don't have them in our area and I live about 300 yards away from a lake.

Even if you was to come to my crib and we went to the lake to go fishing, you may still have some reservations of there being gators in my lake even though we don't have them at all.

I can apply that same concept to race, sex, religion, and so forth.

So when we (not just you and I, but anyone) have discussions about people, how much do we really consider the person's environment when it comes to decision making or thinking? And the mythology or truth they would have to tear down to feel comfortable to do something outside their normal thinking?

Like, would you still feel comfortable being around my lake even if I told you there were no gators?

I know it's weird that a gator comment can take me down a rabbit hole like that, but that's how my mind be working when I read stuff.
Any body of water is a threat is S Florida. We are used to it and know not to walk through it.

Gators are very gentle creatures that don’t bother humans. Meaning the will never aggressively attack a human. If a Gator sees you they will turn around or swim off. Now Gators will def take an easy meal. So you can’t get to close to one in the water because you never know. On land they will hardly ever fuck with you regardless of how close you get because they will typically move away. In water all bets are off

A problem that we now face is that a Nile Crocodile was released in the wild by someone and their population is growing. America Crocodiles are gentle like Gators. But those Nile Crocodiles are crazy aggressive and seek confrontations

We are the environment! we live, move, breathe, eat, sleep, work, play, love, hate, respect, create etc etc the environment; its not possible to find anyone who isnt affected by the environment; the question is which environment is one being affected by? the rabbit hole is something serious.....

You have to respect your surroundings especially in Florida you can’t get mad at the gator for doing what it Supposed to do
And the gator can't get mad at me for proving that my Ruger and I are above him on the food chain.
Shots fired.
New shoes.
Gator sausage w/ Sage.

:hmm: I donnnnnnt give a FUUUUG! I’ll chase him down and slaughter his ass on gp! I know he a lizard and animal but motherfucker me too! Mammal bitch! Fuck any lizard that could be dinner! He slither his ass too far inland he asking for death! Him and all his mf boys! Got a stick of butter with his name on it!

I'm not shocked at all and you have to respect em which is different than fearing something but there's a thin line between the too if you wanna live down there and make it to be an adult or older person.

Ignoring all of that talk of pulling guns and shooting shit, which ain't happening in FL they will fine your ass for doing it,the state spends a lot of money on animal control to save and protect the animals and people's lives.Bad weather, car crashes, niggas and stupidity cause's more deaths than croc and ali do.
