i was about to reply that youtube fan work are better than some movies and their budget is almost not more than 10k

there is no excuse now if they can do thor and all them movies.
playa look at that commercial throw extra money on it and it will be great.

But back then?

I completely understand why that cartoon flopped

The SAME cartion on Netflix would be a SMASH and win awards

i mean yeah back then, but then if you look at movies like willow and all the fantasy movies it could work.
but now it should. after lord of the rings the could do this right?

It was PERFECT.

Seriously perfect.

I would watch a documentary on how the MADE that commercial it was so good

I would want to see who had the idea, how the presented to the company, how did they get the rights. how they hired the writer and director, how they cast, who did costumes, effects and directed, how was it received locally and on social media and how much did it cost.

And how the original creators feel.

@Drayonis i almost teared up. This was The Avengers good

And less than 5 minutes?!?

Wow.

i mean yeah back then, but then if you look at movies like willow and all the fantasy movies it could work.

No doubt. It had willow, lord of the rings and pirates of the Caribbean all together.

Dungeons & Dragons originally aired from 1983-1985 on CBS and centered around a group of children from the real world who were teleported into the world of the game after climbing aboard an amusement park ride. The kids were given magical weapons by the Dungeon Master and began their quest to return home, facing the corrupted Venger (who is in actuality the Dungeon Master's son) and other threats during their journey. The series never received a proper finale, so one could argue that the Renault car commercial wraps things up nicely. After all, the group defeats Tiamat and makes it home safely, even bringing their pet unicorn back with them to the real world.

The car commercial is surprisingly detailed, as the characters all show off their original weapons and abilities and Tiamat's five heads actually match those of the current chromatic dragon designs used by D&D today. While Dungeons & Dragons has experienced a surge in popularity in recent years, we're still shocked that someone is using the game (and its nostalgic cartoon) to sell SUVs.

I was pleasantly surprised to see "(C) Wizards of the Coast LLC"; that means Hasbro (Wizards' parent company) knows of the D&D cartoon's popularity abroad and was down to sign off on this.

They're speaking Brazilian Portuguese. Caverno do Dragao (Dungeons and Dragons) has been a beloved cartoon there since the 80's, continuing in syndication until today. It has a massive fanbase there, bordering on Transformers in the US.

Yeah this was super popular in Brazil.

It never got an official ending but a Brazilian artist drew a comic book with the final episode's plot. (Which was known because the script was written but never animated)

I don't know if there is a translation online but it's called "Requiem" and it's actually a good ending.

The artist's name is Reinaldo Rocha.

The Dungeons & Dragons cartoon was one of the good shows that came from the early 80s cartoon flood of mostly shitty Hanna-Barbara garbage. I'm surprised to see someone else noticed. It and Pirates of Dark Water are probably two of my favorite underrated cartoons.

HO-LY SHIT THANK YOU

I've had this show on the tip of my tongue for YEARS since I was a kid but nothing I tried googling would help it come up! Thank you for helping to get rid of that weight on my mind.

Trivia: The undead adventurers optional is a reference to the '80s D&D Cartoon, which starred a Cavalier, Ranger, Magician, Acrobat, Barbarian, and Thief. The (deceased) Acrobat can be found elsewhere, while the Thief... must've stolen their lives and then fled.

Live-action remake fever has truly reached an all-time high. Everyone seems to be getting in on it, even car manufacturers. The 1980s cartoon Dungeons & Dragons may be gone, but it is a pop-culture icon in Brazil, where the series remains incredibly popular. So much so that the French car manufacturer Renault made a Hollywood-production-level live-action commercial that brought the cartoon characters to life.

The nearly two-minute-long commercial is complete with explosions, a magical bow shooting glowing arrows of energy, and, of course, dragons. It's a seriously faithful adaptation of the CBS TV series that ran for 27 episodes from 1983 to 1985. The animated series revolves around a group of friends who find themselves transported to the land of dungeons and dragons after an amusement park ride whisks them to another dimension.

It wouldn't be Dungeons & Dragons without, you know, dragons, and the commercial does not disappoint. The children's archnemesis and evil wizard Venger, along with his five-headed dragon Tiamat, chase the children all over the realm. Thankfully, the Dungeon Master shows up in the nick of time, in a Kwid Outsider no less. The children use the car to return themselves to the real world, though something else may have unknowingly hitched along for the ride.

Take a look:

So, did you spot Uni, the baby unicorn who decided to come back to the real world with the kids?

The car manufacturer went all out on the production of this commercial. They even went so far as to make posters for the characters that rival any Hollywood blockbuster. They also released a full trailer for the commercial earlier in May, which can be viewed below.

The cartoon focuses on the friendship between the children and how they work together to find their way back home. Of course, they couldn't do it without their friend and mentor the Dungeon Master. The DM helps the children learn their new classes and weapons as they battle the forces of evil who wish to use their weapons to gain more power in the realm. The children frequently come to the aid of others on their quest to find a way home.

Dungeons & Dragons was a joint venture between the game's manufacturers, TSR, and Marvel Productions. The animated series was wildly popular and led its timeslot for two years. The series sadly met its demise before a final episode could be produced. The Emmy award-winning writer Michael Reaves, who wrote for the series, blogged about the final episode, entitled "Requiem." The episode would have tied up some loose narrative threads, like revealing the evil wizard Venger was actually the Dungeon Master's son. Yikes, talk about a complicated family relationship!

We're happy to see this classic get some new life breathed into it. Who knows, maybe this will spawn a brand-new Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. Hey, we can dream, can't we?

(Venger comes flying)

Hank: It's Venger! Run!
Sheila: Do it, Eric!
Eric: Arrrrgh!

ALL: Let's go.

(Car pursued by Venger)

Venger: Fools! You'll never escape!
Hank: Go, go, go, go, go!

Eric: Presto, do something!
Venger: Noooooooo!

(Car goes through portal)

Narrator: Leave the impossible behind.

I never said it wasn't! I'm the one giving you PROOF!

I wanted to show you that it DID have a HUGE following and came out at the wrong time (like most good things unfortunately)

Wouldn't be surprised depending on WHO owns it if it gets a revival.

Chaotic Wizard Chris Pine Will Star in the Dungeons & Dragons Movie

Is Chris Pine more of a lawful paladin or a neutral rogue? Deadline reports that the Wonder Woman and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement actor has closed a deal to star in the Dungeons & Dragons movie, which means we’ll finally have an answer to this very important question. (Personally, I think he’d kill it as a broody ranger.) Pine’s announcement is just the first in what will likely be a star-studded ensemble cast, which will both mirror the group dynamic of a D&D session and kick off a new franchise for Paramount.

The movie, which is scheduled to start filming early next year, comes at the apex of the role-playing game’s popularity — D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast saw its best sales year ever in 2019 — thanks in large part to actual play shows and podcasts like Critical Role and The Adventure Zone. It will be directed by the team behind the delightful dark comedy Game Night, John Francis Daley (who, incidentally, was also involved in one of the best D&D scenes in TV history) and Jonathan Goldstein, with a script they adapted from a draft by Michael Gilio. Pour one out for Joe Manganiello’s Dungeons & Dragons script.
