What he's saying is that maps that we study upon intentionally misrepresent the spacial size of the continents.

I was having a discussion with this cat about Christianity and he kept bringing up the point that Blacks Americans should adhere to Christianity since Black folks are the original Christians.

I asked him how are Black folks the original Christians and he said, Christianity was in ethiopia before it was in rome. I conceded his point but asked him what does it have to do with Black folks, especially those in America.

He equated Africa to all black folks and said Africans were the first to practice christianity. I conceded his point and asked him what does that have to do with West Africans.

I said to him Miami and Anchorage are both North American cities and just as the eskimo and the seminole dont share the same cultures and lineages, we dont share the same cultures and lineages at east africans.

His spacial understanding of maps would not let him believe this and he doubted my statement. Thats when we pulled out maps of our phones searched the distances. I told him that we hate when white folks appropriate our culture, so we have to do the same and stop appropriating the culture of east africans.

I know I got off the subject but I hope that provided some context to how maps greatly misinterpret the spacial size of land masses on earth.

First off those images are real. The data is imported from satellite in ASCII format such as this:

This is raw satellite data I have just recently obtained. The total size of this text file is 450 megabytes, so I outputted some of the content in my linux terminal so you can see. I obtained this data from here: http://pmm.nasa.gov/data-access and here: http://www.goes.noaa.gov/.

Not all sats are not taking photos. Some sats are sending back numbers that need to be processed into images. Once the data is obtained it must be processed through series file conversions to display the data as a visual image. The conversion process is HELL. You have to have knowledge of FORTRAN coding, netcdf, HDF5, AREA files, gini files, GrADS, XML and grib file formatting. A simple windows machine can not handle this.

If the OP knew what he was talking about he would have known what type of projection he was looking at when he posted his so called true image. At that point in his argument, everything else was moot. I'm not going to get into the mathematical details on how this map is made, but check here to try and grasps the concepts.
