Finally! a big gaming site said it. lol Your turn IGN.

It is time, probably, for all of us - and by us I mean gamers, the gaming press, this site, myself - to move on. To stop bringing it up. The bungled launch of Xbox One two years ago has had a profound effect on the fortunes of Microsoft's gaming brand, but it is a closed book. It is far enough in the past that Xbox reps can now bring it up in conversation with a wry, amused, amazed shake of the head and shrug of the shoulders. And in the here and now, for gamers, it is a practical non-issue.

The controversial motion sensor Kinect is optional, not to say forgotten (off the top of my head, I can't think of a single game released for it this year). The console is commercially and, as near as makes no difference, technically competitive with its PlayStation rival: it's available at keen prices in attractive bundles and it has a rapidly expanding library of handsome, well-optimised games. Xbox Live gamers enjoy a reliable and good value service with great fringe benefits. There's a new Halo.

Xbox feels once again like a platform run by gamers for gamers, because that's exactly what it has been since former Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer took the reins over a year and a half ago. This year, Spencer's team scarcely put a foot wrong as they put damage limitation and U-turns behind them and got down to business as usual.

Then, at E3 in June, Spencer capped off a charm offensive aimed at rebuilding the trust of the Xbox faithful by announcing backwards compatibility with Xbox 360. The slow roll-out of compatible games has attracted some criticism since it launched last month, but unfairly so. The initiative is a not inconsiderable engineering challenge, undertaken at no cost to players, for the sake of keeping great games available as well as making Xbox One look more attractive. It's generous, fair, and good for business, and it shames the competition. (And it means I can play Hexic, Clash of Heroes and Pac-Man Championship Edition without having to plug in my 360.)

The announcement was the highlight of Xbox's E3, but also characteristic of it. Sony generated more headlines with a festival of sweetly sentimental wish-fulfilment that carried the sour tang of vapourware: I don't know when we'll be playing The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3 or the Final Fantasy 7 remake, but it probably won't be in 2016, and it's still conceivably never. Spencer, by contrast (and ignoring the distracting mirage that is HoloLens), made promises of substance: backwards compatibility and an early access scheme by year's end; good games this year, better games next; and the rehabilitation of Microsoft Studios' jewel in the crown, Rare, first in the fulsome nostalgia of Rare Replay, and later in the promising Sea of Thieves.

Scalebound Release Date Delayed to 2017
Platinum Games says postponement was necessary to "deliver on our ambitious vision."

Scalebound, the Xbox One exclusive action-RPG in development at Tokyo studio Platinum Games, has been delayed to a 2017 release date.

Previously the project was previously scheduled to ship in the second half of 2016.

In a message to fans, co-authored by several key developers at Platinum Games, the studio claimed that the extended deadline was necessary in order to "deliver on our ambitious vision."

Platinum Games explained that the additional development time will "[help us] bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned."

The studio has also pledged to show more of the game later this year.

Platinum's message continued: "Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together. Scalebound is one of the biggest games Platinum Games has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale--all set in a beautiful and evolving world. It’s the game our team has always dreamed of making."

EA Sports says this video isn't a teaser for the return of NCAA Football

They picked a hell of a time to post something, though

oregonDucksRosterFileNCAAFootball.0.jpg

A teaser video posted today to the long-dormant Facebook page for EA Sports' NCAA Football series got fans' hopes up that the series may return. An EA Sports representative tells Polygon that is not the case.

The video was a simple three-second clip of an electrocardiogram scan, suggesting the franchise had a new heartbeat. It does not. Polygon inquired directly with EA Sports about the video and its meaning, and received two replies. The first said the label has nothing to announce and that the video was posted because college football's national championship game is tonight.

Asked to clarify further, EA Sports told Polygon: "No news, sorry to get your hopes up."

Later, the Facebook post in question added this text: "Our heart still beats for the big game... ‪#‎NationalChampionship."

Before today, the last post on the page was in July 2014.

The NCAA Football series was canceled in September 2013 after settling a $60 million lawsuit over the uncompensated use of thousands of college football players' likenesses going back nearly a decade.

This summer, after Microsoft announced Xbox 360 backward compatibility with the Xbox One console, large numbers of sports fans (including Snoop Dogg) clamored for the last edition of the game, NCAA Football 14 to be made backward compatible. It's unclear if the game's licensing agreement, which has likely expired, would permit that.

Homefront: The Revolution gets release date, beta details and new trailer

homefront-pic-2-640x360.png

Deep Silver have today announced that Homefront: The Revolution will be getting a closed Xbox One beta. Even more exciting though is the news of a confirmed release date.

Arriving on 17th May in North America and 20th May 2016 across the world, Homefront: The Revolution will see you lead the Resistance movement throughout an open world first person shooter. With a living breathing world ready to be explored, it’ll be up to you and your Resistance Cell to inspire a street rebellion as oppressed civilians take to the fight. The enemy however will have superior technology, firepower and air support so you must learn the art of guerrilla warfare – and you need to learn it fast!

With a single player campaign to get your teeth into, and a co-op mode enabling you and friends to form your own Resistance Cell, Homefront should be something to check out come May.

The main features of Homefront will be:

  • Explore a living, breathing open world – experience true open world gameplay in a first person shooter, brought to life with astonishing CRYENGINE-powered visuals
  • Wage Guerrilla Warfare – this is no linear shooter; learn the art of guerrilla warfare and use ambush, infiltration and hit and run tactics against your foe in thrilling un-scripted firefights
  • Build the Resistance – recruit revolutionaries to the cause, establish bases and safehouses, capture and customise a deadly arsenal, and build improvised, homebrew weapons for your Guerrilla Tool Kit
  • Ignite the Revolution – from oppressed citizen to revolutionary leader, an epic single-player campaign tells the story of the second War of Independence. The dynamic, evolving world responds to your actions as an oppressed nation rises up in defiance against the occupation
  • Online Co-Op – take the battle online, form a Resistance Cell with your friends and earn your reputation as Heroes of the Revolution
Before that however, you’ll probably be looking to get involved in the closed Xbox One beta. Running exclusively on Xbox One in Feb 2016, you’ll need to keep an eye on Deep Silver and Xbox as they dish out beta invites. The best way of doing this is by registering for development updates on the official site at www.Homefront-Game.com

In the meantime though, check out the chilling trailer below. ‘This is Philadelphia’ offers a glimpse of the brutal policies known as the Yellow Zones – hugely populated areas of Philadelphia, where civilians live in constant fear. With a mix of Orwellian police state and ghetto slum, the People are kept under the heel of oppression through permanent surveillance, 24-hour propaganda, and an ever-constant military presence.

Amazon Prime now offers 20 percent off new game releases

Amazon is making it cheaper for Prime members to play the latest video games. As part of a new benefit of Amazon Prime, the company is offering those with a subscription a 20 percent discount on new game releases. The deal covers any physical game (i.e. no digital downloads) and is available from the time the game is available to preorder through two weeks after it launches. The deal doesn't cover games that are already discounted more than 20 percent, or those bundled with a console, and Amazon notes that the savings are applied automatically at checkout — so you might not see the discount initially. The program is similar to Best Buy's gamers club, which also offers 20 percent savings on new releases, though of course Amazon Prime offers a lot more than just deals on video games
