Xbox One Console Reviews

It all makes sense now why Ubisoft put an embargo on the reviewers until noon of the day this game launched.

Far Cry 4 reviews

Joystiq - 4.5/5

There's a staggering number of adventures to extract from Far Cry 4, whether you chase the ones laid out by the game explicitly, or the ones that develop naturally as you take in the sights. It's another interesting and absorbing world to fall into, shoot through, burn and then guide to new beginnings. Far Cry 4 may have installed a despot, but it's still the undisputed king of the open-world shooter.

This is probably the best that Far Cry has ever been. And that's saying something.

✔ The scale of the environment is stunning to behold and interactive with.
✔ Consistent surprises mean it's impossible to ease into a predictable routine.
✖ Competitive multiplayer is functional and nothing more. Disappointing.
✖ Some missions are overly linear, at odds with expansiveness elsewhere.

And there can be no doubt. Far Cry 4 is a superb Skinner box, staving off monotony with constant upgrades, and it's so expertly crafted to appeal to baser instincts, so rewarding of you embracing them, that there's a strong chance you'll miss the broader point that all of what you're doing is utterly despotic. Like, say, a dictator might. A lot of games are about killing. Far Cry is about hunting. They're not the same thing, and it is as disquieting as it is enjoyable.

Superb: A hallmark of excellence. There may be flaws, but they are negligible and won't cause massive damage to what is a supreme title.

Far Cry 4 is well worth a visit, but it's more a backpacker's delight than a five-star island paradise.

I swear some gamers are dumb. Making excuses for Ubisoft saying "If you have bugs and you preordered the game and bought it at launch, that's your fault." Oh really?! I have read that way too many times the past few days.

New Killer Instinct Character Kan-Ra

tumblr_nf1l5m2iRk1rfb2e4o1_500.jpg

Character #3 : KAN-RA (khan-RAH)

Age: 2534
Height: 5’11”
Blood Type: (when he had it) O
Nationality: Babylonian
Gender: Male
Type: Sorcerer
Personality Traits: Arrogant, inquisitive, confident, and expressive
Weapon: Dark magic, matter manipulation

Here’s a part of his backstory:

Babylon, 559 BC: Kan-Ra is named Vizier, head advisor to the throne.

Over his years of study in this position, he becomes fascinated with the King’s enigmatic royal guard – a living bronze statue – and the magic that keeps it alive. From all of Kan-Ra’s cautious attempts to observe and study the creature, he deduces that its power source could theoretically keep it alive forever. The thought of being able to study and learn until the end of time enthralls Kan-Ra and feeds his obsession for knowledge.

Scholarly research in the royal libraries into past wonders and lost arts of magic fuels his ambition; Kan-Ra feels that as the smartest person in Babylon only he is qualified to rule. He seduces the King’s wife using a charm spell and begins setting in motion a plan to take the throne by using the Queen as his assassin.

Lacking the power to control the spell effectively, it wears off prematurely. The Queen, thinking herself simply coming to her senses after being seduced by Kan-Ra, is overwhelmed by guilt, killing herself and leaving a note detailing her and Kan-Ra’s betrayal.

Enraged, the King has Kan-Ra hunted down and captured by his royal guard, who brings a bloodied a broken Kan-Ra before the throne. The King summons his most powerful sorcerers and curses Kan-Ra with a withering rot- a painful dark magic curse that disintegrates flesh and organs slowly… painfully. Writhing in agony, rotting a bit more every day, Kan-Ra is exiled, he and his ambition doomed to wither away into nothingness.

In exile Kan-Ra uses what little knowledge he has gained of magic to slow the rot. While the King assumes him dead, Kan-Ra’s intellect is focused on reversing the rot so that he can have his revenge. He tracks down sorcerers and occultists versed in dark magic, learning what he can. Unable to slow his rot further, he instead places upon himself other curses that work to offset the rot. He seeks out magical artifacts and talismans to ease the pains and ailments these layers of curses cause him, carrying them on him in ever-growing number; a magical balancing act of curses and boons at play throughout his being.

…to be continued!

WHEN?

TRAILER: Friday 11/21
ULTRA RELEASE: Monday 11/24
COMBO RELEASE: Sunday 11/30 (5PM PST)

We will also have a live stream on trailer day (next Friday!) to show the character being played and walk everyone through his moveset.

Finally, let’s talk about going forwards.

Starting in January, we’re going to try some things a bit differently with how we talk about upcoming characters, fuelled directly by your feedback here on the forums. Expect each character’s name, concept art, story, and gameplay preview streams to appear before their launch, not right around it. We may show a character in stream before the trailer launches, even. We’re going to play it by ear and see what has the most impact, so each month may be a bit different in how things are released. Bottom line: More insight into KI’s development, earlier.

Why not starting in December? Because the December character will be released well before Christmas, so that month will be accelerated somewhat anyway.

Additionally, Kraig and I will start tag-teaming the textual streams going forwards. We’ll alternate weeks talking about characters and gameplay vs. UI, modes, and all other things KI.

Ubisoft has suggested that players disconnect their console or PC from the internet while playing Assassin's Creed Unity in order to improve the frame rate.

In an update on the publisher's forums, Ubisoft said that "if playing single player, we suggest that you disconnect from your internet connection (wifi or network cable). It could potentially improve frame rate."

However, after putting Ubisoft's suggestion to the test, Digital Foundry states that "there's little evidence to suggest that [playing offline] brings us appreciably closer to the target 30fps".

"We've now tested single-player with the console online and offline, and report no game-changing difference to the overall experience," Digital Foundry said. "In some cases, running offline is faster, while in others performance is the same or lower.

We're inclined to think this is just down to the variation in engine load between the two sessions, and there's little evidence to suggest that it brings us appreciably closer to the target 30fps."

Assassin's Creed Unity has drawn criticism from fans and press this week for its myriad bugs and technical problems, including problems with the game's frame rate, AI and collision detection.

It faced further backlash over its decision to embargo reviews until 12 hours after the game had gone on sale in the US.

In response, Ubisoft told the BBC that it would be "working to adapt our services and communications with consumers accordingly, both by changing the way we work with reviewers and by offering customers open betas or other early access to some games, all so that they have the information they need and want."

Hey don't blame EA. This is 2K. But damn only 25 CAW slots. Wtf! Especially with 2 Alberto Del Rios on the roster.

Well when you're starting from scratch with a new engine some things are going to get left out. 25 caw slots when the game is more advanced as for graphics doesn't surprise me. I preordered it but I think I'll wait until next year with 2K16.

And then the WCW and NXT packs are excluded from the season pass. They were on some bull shit this year. I only follow WWE by their YouTube channel for the pass 3 years. I'm fine missing this year so they can make the real version next year. GTA 5 should keep me busy with something else I'll pick up until Arkham Knight drops in the summer.
