Limbo is coming to Xbox One and will be free for early console adopters

limbo.jpg

Microsoft has confirmed that Limbo, the critically acclaimed indie game that was first released for the Xbox 360, will be coming to the Xbox One. Folks who bought the Xbox One early will be able to download the game for free when it is released.

The news about Limbo's Xbox One release came in a message to the console's early adopters on its dashboard today, which we have confirmed after seeing the same message on our own console following tips from our readers. No other details about the Xbox One Limbo release have been revealed, including a release date.

Developed by Playdead, Limbo is a black-and-white 2D side scroller game centering on a small boy as he tries to find his sister while solving puzzles and avoiding monsters and traps. The game was first released for the Xbox 360 in 2010 and was later released to other platforms. Playdead is currently working on its second game, Inside, which will be an Xbox One exclusive when it debuts in 2015.

Microsoft clarifies free Xbox One Limbo eligibility

Those "who played their Xbox One on the first weekend of launch" gifted free game, Microsoft confirms.

39982_1_a7f67ee611.jpg

Microsoft has clarified the terms of its free Limbo promotion, confirming that those "who played their Xbox One the first weekend of launch" were selected to receive "early, free access to the game"

In a statement provided to VideoGamer.com this morning, a Microsoft spokesperson said:

"We're looking forward to launching 'Limbo' on Xbox One. As a thank you to our earliest adopters, fans who played their Xbox One the first weekend of launch received early, free access to the game. 'Limbo' will also be available for purchase via the Xbox Game Store soon."

Clarification follows messages sent to some Xbox One users this weekend granting them access to a free copy of Limbo. However, there still appears to be some confusion over who was eligible after some early adopters failed to receive the message.

"The Year One Celebration gift box email was sent to Xbox One customers who purchased the console between 11/22/13 – 11/11/14, in our 13 launch markets, are 17 years or older and have 10+ hours of usage on Xbox One," the spokesperson continued, referring to Xbox One's free birthday goodies. "Gifts were distributed entirely at random to Xbox One owners from all 13 markets who opened their email and clicked through to the web page."

Microsoft has yet to announce when Limbo will be available to purchase separately on Xbox One or for how much. Rumours point to a release early next week.

On Nov 11th we released Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The goal being to create a tribute to Halo fans around the world, and to celebrate the Master Chief’s debut on Xbox One. With the initial release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, however, we have not delivered the experience you deserve. I personally apologize for this on behalf of us all at 343 Industries. Our team is committed to working around the clock until these issues are resolved.

While our team works on continual improvements and towards solutions, my commitment to you is that we will take care of all owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Our primary and continued focus is first on fixing the issues at hand. Once we’ve done that, we will detail how we will make this right with our fans.

On the matchmaking front, we have encountered unexpected issues that were not apparent in our internal test environment and that have resulted in a frustrating experience, including long matchmaking times and low session success rates. Within 343 Industries and Xbox, I can assure you that resolving these issues is our #1 priority. We continue to partner with the Xbox platform team to analyze all data to make ongoing server-side adjustments to continually improve the matchmaking experience. We are also preparing additional content updates that will address existing campaign, UI, and other issues to improve the overall experience. With each update we will carefully analyze data to confirm that the improvements we’re seeing internally are also happening with fans at home.

Know that we’re trying to be as nimble as possible to put fixes in place. We are planning multiple server-side tweaks and game content updates over the coming weeks. Looking forward, I want to give you a high-level cadence of the latest updates we’re currently working on. Development and testing of our latest content update continues and we are on track for release later this week. We will update you on the status and patch notes of the content update once we have a better understanding of our release window. Only through making changes on both the “server side” (matchmaking and other server rulesets) and, via content updates (to the game itself), can we make the significant progress we’re working towards. And in the interest of expediency, we’re attacking the problem from both sides, non-stop.

As we have been, we will continue to post the details of our updates and other adjustments on Halo Waypoint. Please check our forums at http://aka.ms/mcc_updates for the latest details as we roll out further fixes.

Please accept my heartfelt apologies for the delay and for the negative aspects of your experience to date. We’re doing everything in our power to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Ross – Studio Head, 343 Industries

Uh-oh.
As we said a little while ago, we will try to keep you informed with regards to reviews being delayed past the point of a game's launch due to embargos. Well, this one isn't quite about embargos, but it's close enough.

Ubisoft beat us to it this time with regards to The Crew. The game launches on December 2nd, and review copies and codes will be made available to press around about that time. However, Ubisoft feel that the game is best played alongside thousands of online players, so they've posted the following on their blog:-
You want to read how the pros feel after their carefully considered road tests of The Crew. While we totally understand (hey, we read reviews, too!), The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world. And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players – something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press.
For this very reason, The Crew will be available to media to begin their reviews when the game launches on December 2. There will be absolutely no embargo on any type of coverage once the game is available for sale.
You can check out the full post over at the Ubisoft blog.
We've been told that our review copy of the game will arrive the day before launch, and that "we estimate that it will take roughly 30-40 hours to properly experience the game and recommend this amount of play time for review."

Read into all of that what you will, but if you're brave enough to preorder or purchase on day one before you've been able to read a review of the game from your favoured outlet, we wish you well. If your favoured outlet is us, then we love you, too. The game goes into open beta today and that runs until the 27th, so you can give it a spin for free.

We'll bring you a review just as soon as we've had a chance to play the game for as much time as we feel is necessary.

The launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity was a highly-anticipated moment for me and for our development teams around the world who dedicated a tremendous amount of energy, passion and skill to the game’s creation. For us, it was the culmination of years of work on new technologies, the development of multiple innovations -- including an all-new game engine -- and an evolution of the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s core pillars. More importantly, we know that it was a highly-anticipated moment for many of you as well, as you looked forward to taking part in the first truly next generation Assassin’s
Creed game.

Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin's Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.

We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we’re releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game’s stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus. You can find the release notes on that patch here: Patch 3 Notes

To show our appreciation for your continued support, we’re making the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone. For Season Pass holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free. More details on the offer for Season Pass holders can be found here: AC Unity FAQ

In addition to the latest patch and this offer, we are committed to delivering further fixes for other issues you’ve raised. In the meantime, please keep your feedback coming – it has been both humbling and incredibly helpful as we continue working hard to improve the overall quality of the game. We are hopeful that with these forthcoming updates, everyone will be able to truly enjoy their Assassin’s Creed Unity experience.

We will continue striving to make Assassin’s Creed one of the most ambitious and innovative franchises on the market, and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

Sincerely,
Yannis Mallat
CEO, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto

Exo Zombies Are Coming To Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare In The New Year

Zombies in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Exo Survival game mode are getting fleshed-out in the New Year, developer Sledgehammer Games announced today.

Originally included in the co-op survival game mode as only a bit of a secret Easter Egg, the first chapter of a proper Exo Zombies mode is coming to Advanced Warfare with the arrival of the game’s first DLC, the Havoc Pack, this January, first on Xbox Live.

“As things were wrapping up around launch, we started playing around with the idea of what happens when zombies were thrown into the mix with exoskeleton gameplay. What we came up with is Exo Zombies — an entirely new breed of zombies and an entirely new co-op experience that is truly unique to Advanced Warfare,” Sledgehammer wrote in a recent community update.

“The first chapter of Exo Zombies will be coming with the Havoc DLC pack early next year. Fans can grab that DLC pack to jump in, or access via the Season Pass. More information about Exo Zombies will be coming in the next few weeks. We can’t wait show you more – see you online!”

You can catch the debut trailer above and let us know what you think in the comments below!

As noted yesterday, Season Pass holders on Xbox get a small portion of the Havoc DLC early in the form of a brand new weapon, the EM4 directed-energy assault rifle.

As a “thank you” for picking up and playing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare during its first few weeks of launch, developer Sledgehammer Games is offering players on all platforms a small gift.

Anyone logging in between today, November 26, and this Monday, December 1 at 9AM PDT, will get a chance to earn the Nigerian Command loadout for their Advanced Warfare Operator through Supply Drops, so you’ll have to do some playing to get the free stuff. Here’s what the full set looks like, in case you’re wondering:

Shit even Sony has calmed down with giving out great games. But I'm ok with it. A chance to play shit I wasn't going to buy but was curious about. EA Access plus Gamefly keeps me busy with stuff I didn't buy.
