X-Men: Apocalypse' Review: It's A Franchise-Killing Disaster

This takes place after the events in the 70's from DOFP but before the end when Wolverine went back to see the restored future.

Yeah I'm extremely confused with what's going on in Foxs X-man timeline. So did DoFP erase the first Wolverine from existence.

But I'll just let that go...
I have bigger issues with this movie. Bryan singer had another shot at the Phoenix story and he fucked it up. I don't understand why they refuse to go BIG with the Phoenix. It's been wasted in two different movies. The only movie that at least showed potential was the second xman at the end.

Fuck it I'll ask questions.
  • At the end of DoFP Wolverine gets rescued by Striker but then we see that it's really Mystique pretending to be Striker. So how does the real Striker get him and do the weapon X experiment?
  • And is Magento just a Earth bender? I wonder if he can bend lava too.
  • How in the actual fuck is Olivia Munn considered to be one of the strongest mutants? Storm probably, Magento definitely, Angel maybe, Psylocke . She has a glowing light saber arm that she didn't even use as a primary weapon.

All of this especially the 1st and second. How did apocalypse not sense the power within Jene Grey? She was literally right next to him.

Oh and the CGI in this was horrible. Horrible.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' Kicks Off Weekend With $8.2M Thursday Previews

Friday AM Update:
X-Men: Apocalypse brought in an estimated $8.2 million from Thursday night previews from approximately 3,595 of the 4,150 theaters it will be opening in this weekend. It's a solid start and compares favorable to the $8.1 million X-Men: Days of Future Past launched with in 2014 before opening with $90.8 million over the three-day and $110.5 million for the 2014 Memorial Day weekend. Days of Future Past brought in $35.5 million on Friday back in 2014 so we'll be looking closely at that number once Friday estimates are released.

Dammit. I hope the numbers are low

I was wondering this....and also...when Prof X used Cerebro to locate the source of the earthquake early in the movie, he finds Moira but he doesn't sense one of the most powerful mutants in history right under her feet. :smh:

It's beyond frustrating that this deep into the franchise, Bryan Singer still has no clue about the characters he's working with. Any normal job, this level of incompetence on top of pedo scandals would get you buried and blacklisted. Hollywood is on some way other shit.

So far its on pace with Days of Future Past
...
Naw this film gonna make some chedda like bvs did

Even though this film has mixed reviews mostly negative;
this film gonna recoup that $234 million budget
Not even close -DoFP did $747 million global but only 233 domestic... I expect this to do around 650 but I'm praying for it to pull much less

in my 30+ years bouncing around corporate America - I've learned nepotism trumps competence every time - from what I've seen of Hollywood it seems they are 10x worse

Yeah I figured with the combination of global & domestic sales
will be way this film recoup its initial budget.

The 4 day weekend tally will probably be under the Memorial Day domestic openers,
2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand ($122.9M) and X-Men: Days of Future Past
($110.6M).
This film might barely get $100 M for the 4-day weekend tally.

Definitely a plot hole with the DOFP ending where Wolverine gets rescued. I totally forgot bout that part too. Probably too busy shaking my head at the other fuckery. As for Psylocke, she actually is pretty powerful but they fucked her over in this movie only giving her the telekinetic dagger which later turned into a whip. They showed none of her telepathic powers at all. :smh:

Exactly.
No disrespect to Psylocke in the comics but to the general movie going audience she was just a bitch with a shiny hand lightsaber and whip. No attempt made to show any of her other powers or the true potential that Apocalypse saw in her. And at the point where he comes across Professor X and Jean, he should have turned and looked at Angel and Psylocke like, "sorry but the position has just been filled. Good luck on your future endeavors."

Shit wasn't that bad. Definitely worth a matinee.
A $200 million XMen movie is only worth a matinee?
imagine that - If last year I told you that
in 2016 an XMen movie and a Batman Superman movie - both pg13- are only worthy of a matinee...
While a B level character like Deadpool has an R movie in February, will be good and out grosses both?
everyone on this board, myself included would say no way...

I also didn't really understand his powers over them. At first I thought it was mind control, but it clearly seemed like you still had free will. I could understand Magneto and Angel.... the world has treated them like shit. So I would understand that. I didn't see what would cause Storm and Psylocke to just say... Oh fuck the world and everyone that I know. I've got power now. Especially Storm because she wanted to be a hero. Of course this wouldn't have been an issue if they showed Apocalypse mentally conditioning them to serve only him.

WTF Was X-Men: Apocalypse's End Credits Scene All About?
vkdkfg7wfgyjg1lb6oxf.jpg

No matter what you thought of X-Men: Apocalypse, odds are you sat through the credits to see if there was some kind of tease. And there was. And it’s a weird one, unless you are well-versed in comic books. So if you didn’t understand the implications, we’re here to help!

To explain, I have to ruin another big surprise in the movie so, obviously...

Early in the film, when Cyclops, Jean, and Nightcrawer go to rescue Raven, Beast, Quicksilver, and Moira from Stryker, they get some help from none other than Wolverine, seen in his iconic Weapon X garb. He rampages through the barracks before meeting up with Jean and heading out on his own. This is important not just is this a big part of Wolverine’s origin, but because whatever tests they did on Logan set up the end credits.

The end credit scene is back in Stryker’s bunker, where Wolverine is being experimented on. A group of people walk in, take a vial of liquid labeled “Weapon X” and put it in a briefcase with a bunch of similar tubes. When the case closes, it says “Essex Corp” on it.

The Essex Corporation is the company of Nathaniel Essex, known in the comics as supervillain Mr. Sinister. In the comics he’s a 19th-century scientist who, with the help of Apocalypse, is given mutant powers and made basically immortal. He spends all that time experimenting on mutants, trying to build bigger and better ones, so it would make sense that he wants the Weapon X serum.

What’s most interesting about this tag is Mr. Sinister’s long, varied comic book past has lots of potential connections to the past, present, and future of the X-Men movies. First, there’s the connection to Apocalypse. We see Apocalypse enhancing mutants in this movie, but Essex was born in the 19th century—in the movies, Apocalypse was stuck under a pyramid at the time. The next movie could just say Mr. Sinister is as old as Apocalypse, but that would be a big change.

Back in the comics, Sinister is also thought to have created Scott Summers (Cyclops, played by Tye Sheridan’s) son, Nathan, who becomes Cable. Cable, of course, is a character we know is coming in the Deadpool sequel. Again, a connection between the son of Cyclops (who will only be in his 20s in the next film) and Deadpool’s world feels like a huge leap. The characters do have a link, though, so anything is possible.

We’ve also heard rumors of the female Wolverine character, X-23, coming in an upcoming film. She’s a clone, and has nothing to do with the Weapon X program specifically, but the movies have often gone away from the comic book origins. It seems perfectly plausible that X-23 could be made from the blood of Weapon X in a future movie.

I was saying that earlier but then that also opened the plot hole of why would he need Professor X then

Man FOX is trying to set up the Savage lands.....

Oh shit I knew I had another compliant. So in a span of about 3 minutes Storm goes from season 1 Wallace being the head street urchin taking care of all the other kids to Ms. Fuck the World I'm rolling with Apocalypse now.

Most movies are twort a matinee price. I would only give a select few movies a full price and even Deadpool wouldn't get a full price movie from me.
Now saying that, I can enjoy a flick for what it is. There are better flicks but I can enjoy each independently of the other flicks . So Deadpool was more enjoyable to me than other movies , but I can say that about many movies. The question I ask is, was it worth my time? Yes it was. Besides that... these are summer blockbusters . They will make they will money but none of these comic book movies are actually good films. They are the same movies over and over again. Nothing new or transformative . It did its job.

I kinda disagree - not all aren't good films
IMO -the first Blade is very underated from a film making perspective
Dark Knight was a solid film noir on par with Nolan's other work until the 3rd act,
And Civil War was just solid - almost a unique take on 3 Days of the Condor vs The Manchurian Canditate

with Fox doing a magnificent job of fucking up the writing.......they've screwed this all the fuck up.
im sure they'll do an even better job of fuckin up Sinister. have that nigga walkin around lookin like Sting (the wrestler)....spandex and all....
gettin slapped around by Jubilee and shit.

I agree. It was still way better then BVS.

This is the thing. I can enjoy all these movies because my expectations are low. Only a few of these movies have been memorable. Honestly, the DC movies have had more of an effect on me than other ones whether it is a positive or negative effect. I think where BvS fails is that it is actually not a comic book movie and most folks don't want that

Only the Nolan first two Batman movies are good films. They are films masquerading as comic book movies.
Marvel films are for the most part very vanilla. They are enjoyable but easily forgettable .
I like Blade but it is solid. I can watch it again. I won't revisit any marvel films at all. I saw them and they were enjoyable but they are ultimately empty and I am fine with that. I enjoy them tremendously when I am there and then 20 minutes afterwards I am done, but I watching the Avengers a second time and I turned it off.
It is like this... I saw Eurotrip one day when I was bored. I laughed my ass off. I knew it wasn't a good flick but I was dying. Right time and right place. I saw that shit again and was like...:smh:. so, I am perplexed when people get so upset with these movies especially if they are emotionally attached to the comics. I can let go of all my preconceived notions and see the flick for what it is. It doesn't have to be like the comics.. the films can stand on their own.

I get what your saying - but for many its disappointing to see properties that already have developed character arcs turned into 1 or 2 dimensional shadows....
Especially after seeing successful adaptations like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and now a series like Game of Thrones...
If the story isn't good then make sure the wardrobe fx /gfx / cgi / stunts etc are spectacular! - not Power Rangers quality... in many ways this was lazy as hell! Even for a popcorn flick!

Its a LionsGate production and distribution -so it could go either way... but
imagine if they actually put out better action scenes and sequences than in Apocalypse... :fuckyousay:
