Will Instagram & Record Labels Shut Down D-Nice & All DJ's

D-Nice shook up the world, but the word on the block is the record labels want in.
(AllHipHop Rumors) D-Nice has caused a ripple effect after he has been doing God's work with his "Club Quarantine" on the Mark Zuckerberg's platform Instagram. When I say "God's work," I mean people were down and out, depressed over the coronavirus and really down. Makes sense! It's a pandemic that is killing people. We are not officially in a depression, but we are going that way FAST.

That said, D-Nice and others like DJ Premier, Lord Finesse, Beverly Bond and many others have been entertaining the people and keeping their minds at ease. D-Nice, for example, went a total of 9 hours one day on his "party," which is streamed live from his pad in Los Angeles. He has continued to party for a purpose and spread love all over the globe. I love it and, for the first few days, I got some exercise and stuff like the rest of the world.
It has only been about a week that D-Nice has been doing this whole thing. And it absolutely got gentrified once it went mainstream, but the music stayed the same and the jams were flowing. That may be the issue. I am getting word that the record labels are coming in to get what they are owned. Simply, they want money for the songs that are entertaining us. Well damn.

Even in a pandemic, killing innumerable people, people are looking to get "their coin." I guess I get it since this is America and capitalism is the beast that nobody really wants to discuss. Not to get too deep with it, but I want people to realize some things.... I will say that my sources are not specifying what labels are looking to get paid so it may just be one or two. There is already software in place on IG for people to get cake when you use their music, but I guess in a DJ environment, there are challenges. I am not even sure how they will do it.
All of this has not stopped D-Nice from doing good. He's teaming up with Michelle Obama to party and register people to vote at the same time. Bro's star was already pretty high, but now I am sure the rates are going through the roof! Congrats to him.
Now, I am wondering what Instagram is going to do. Will they limit people to one transmission a day? Will they make us chill until a certain time to transmit again? They are not making any "money" off of this either so I am sure that has caused IG to consider what they need to be doing. Hip-Hop has always innovated, but these folks are getting on it quick to squash our fun, even in a pandemic!

I've always been disgusted that cacs/jews controlled an art form that wasn't created, mastered, and perfected by them.. Literally a black mans creation along with help from our Latin cousins strongarmed by outsiders.. I get they helped finance some projects and help promote it.. But get your lil percent and the rest of it be circulated by the creators and craftsmanship.. 1 of those things if you could rewrite history would of never let cacs be involved outside of being consumers and maybe promotion.. The origin of hip-hop and how it fell in control of other hands has always been motivation to why to want to create a product and be self owned.. The NYC black strip club game has had similar story and why it inspired the underground and why I grasp the concept of the underground.. Cacs touching and controlling the money that blacks built never sat right with me... This dumbass situation rub me wrong to and should inspire others to push a segregation away from these pale skins... Having fun and entertaining is part of the genre experience and these fags find a way to ruin it

what could happen is find a way to play a bunch of unsigned artist whether rnb or hip-hop and spin their music.. Let it be an anti industry movement slash displaying artist people never heard of.. Get that movement started

We definitely need our own platform. And not worry about building it up to sell it to the pink people. Really make it for us and about us. This is the one time that we all need to come together, work together and grow together. Our biggest weakness is that we don’t come together like the Jews do and build something epic. There’s always the crabs in the barrel that either knock it or put the seeds of discontent in others heads then talk shit when it fails. I always admired the south musically with how they stuck together and built their movement. NY could’ve really controlled shit but we were too busy knocking each other down

Muhfuckas just can't help themselves. :smh:

Nope they can't

Generations of raping artists

Messing up with Napster..

Alienating a generation

Letting Apple pimp them

360 deals

Not evolving radio

Late on streaming...

And on and on...

Now during a pandemic when music and the industry as a whole could truly have a positive revolution like never before?

They gotta go f*ck it up

WTF?!?!

these corporations BETTER be careful

from the sixers owners to Bloomberg?

The PEOPLE about to rise up.

D Nice is performing a damn public service

the labels should be PAYING HIM and ENCOURAGING him to continue.
People ain’t about to rise up and do shit, I can tell from this board that ultimately if the government tells you to do something; stay at home, change your way of life, fuck your income, all for something that you can’t see, then you’re gonna spook yourself into compliance...most people nowadays are internet gangstas with little to no backbone to do any “rising up”
FOH

I don't think being told to wash they filthy hands cover they mouth when they cough and stop spreading the virus irresponsibly is compliance in a negative way.

My ears perked up when I heard D Nice was spinning live on IG. Copyright law says that the songwriter has to get paid everytime their record spins for public performance. BET/Radio One/ Revolt all have to pay when they broadcast a song. DNice out there spinning and not paying the artists. That can be tricky.

Do the artists get paid when these DJs spin in the clubs? There was a time when labels gave DJs records to see if it was a hit. DJs don’t break records anymore. It’s almost as if they’ve become the forgotten element

True

But BEFORE THIS?

A bunch of djs been doing

And on regular schedule too.

Why pick NOW to do this

I BET a majority of artists including MJB herself you watched and had her music played supported it.

They got a captive audience of millions and actually garnering good positive publicity

But now?

Just watch this backfire if they proceed.

The club is supposed to have a license with either ASCAP/BMI, etc. to play music. If they don't than they fan be fined a crazy amount of money.

It's complicated. You have terrestrial stations that have a license to play music over the radio airwaves but that license doesn't extend to digital except in very limited formats, instagram and FB not being one of them. Cathy Hughes was not happy.

They chose now because when everyone else was going live all this time it was no more than a couple hundred viewers at a time. D broke the mold by pushing those numbers to six figures plus got national coverage from television and digital news reports. He changed the narrative

D Nice need to make a post and at oprah biden Elizabeth Warren mary j blige idris elba Gwyneth paltrow leonardo DiCaprio etc etc etc all the celebrities who watched...

And NAME THE SPECIFIC LABELS AND EXECUTIVES telling him to stop

Then we will see hiw that goes

Don't believe me just watch

Yup and these dumb execs about to change the narrative Too

They REALLY want thousands of potential music buyers and concert goers home angry with nothing to do

To direct their anger at THEM?

Sidebar...

De la soul should jump on this and perform live and stream it on both they platforms...

And try to get they cataloge back too.

I love it. Use this to push new independent/unsigned talent they don't control. Time to circle our wagons around us. I'm cool with allies as long as they are not in our war rooms.

Dj s used to get licensed so this doesn't happen. Was like this for years, pay annual fee and you could play wherever. My experience is from years ago, so maybe rules were changed?

Excellent points Black. They don't give two fucks about the product. Just the money it generates.

On Joe Budden's podcast they had a discussion on this

Record companies are trying to monetize every nickel. I wouldn't be shocked.

Especially for a room getting over 10, 40, 100,000. Just like radio stations have to pay for music.

I remember back in the late 80's early 90's, record companies went after DJ's and people making mixtapes, then they realized that the DJ's were not playing the entire song and it promoted the music which brought in sales, lawsuits were dropped.
Looks like we are back were we started.
DJ's buy music from record pools, why are they not allowed to play the music on platforms like YouTube etc, is beyond me.
I get it, some new DJ's just download from YouTube without ever buying a single song, but that's not what the pro's do.

I think if you're not earning a dime while spinning on platforms like IG, then you should not oh anything, if you're spinning on YouTube, then fine, the labels get percentage, that should be fair.
