why tobe fails - in his own words

this was supposedly written by tobe, but i highly doubt it. it has the cadence of a ghost writer who has hand-picked tape recorded thoughts. nevertheless, it still proves insightful and valuable.

my remarks are bracketed and in bold...

Kobe Bryant ... in his own words
Kobe Bryant / Dime Magazine
Posted: 3 hours ago

The following excerpt is from Kobe Bryant's first-person cover story in Issue #22 of Dime.

The latest issue of Dime, available at newstands now.

My biggest fear is not winning another title. But fear is a great motivator. I'm determined to lead this organization back to the top. The people who once celebrated me are the same people who doubt me now. [bandwagon fakers fans?] They say that because I don't have Shaq that I can't win, that it's over. The only thing I truly worry about is that my drive and my will are sometimes too much for my teammates to handle. Do I expect too much from them? How can I elevate them to play with my same passion every night?

[that question PROVES UNEQUIVOCALLY that tobe is a failure as a teammate, player and leader. tobe's faulty egocentrism has him wasting energy in attempting to have teammates match his so-called 'passion'. a TRUE leader and GREAT teammate isn't interested in making 4 clones of himself. a TRUE leader and GREAT teammate knows how to recognize individual strengths and USE those skills to the advantage of the TEAM.]

What helps me understand and deal with this is the fact that I was once in their shoes. I once played a supporting role on this team. Back then I knew how much pressure Shaquille had on him to win a ring and I also knew I could help. So I studied the game offensively and especially defensively because I knew that if I could harass on the perimeter with him clogging the lane, it would demoralize our opponents more than anything we could do offensively.

I also knew that the teams he played on in the past did not have a closer. No one could take the game over down the stretch or hit the game winner or make the key free throws. Those were Shaq's weaknesses, so I had to step up and make them my strengths. I knew how much more I could bring to the battle, but that wasn't my role. I was a scorer who became a facilitator in order to win.

But now I worry because I know how hard that was for me to learn
, how many sleepless nights I had and how much criticism and trade rumors I had to endure before I mastered my role.

[ are you serious? does ANYONE really believe that tobe has learned to be a scorer who became a facilitator? when? ]

This is probably what my current teammates are going through. All I can do is pray that one day we will reach the same level of chemistry and understanding that existed between me, Shaq, Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, Robert Horry and all the other players I once went to war with.

The fears I have are soothed a little by the presence of Phil Jackson. Simply put: He is the best coach I have ever played for. Everything I have learned about the game can be traced to him and Tex Winter. They teach the game at such a deeper level than X's and O's. The game is a rhythm, a dance. Phil and Tex have taught me to feel the game. To think the game without thinking, to see without seeing. They taught me how to prepare. How to conceptualize the spirit of my opponents and attack them where they are weak.

I've seen how prepared PJ gets before games, and as the on-court leader he is trusting me to do the same. So I do all the things he has taught me to do before tipoff and once the ball is in the air my mind is at ease and my body is ready to play. I take it to the other team on both ends of the floor. I take pride in being able to do that. I HATE being scored on, even by players who some say are "un-guardable." I don't believe it when they say "Oh, that player is just hot today." F--- that! Cool his ass off then.

[tobe's living a tragic lie if he believes that he takes it to the opponents on BOTH ends of the floor. that is a damn shame if tobe's that deluded. :smh: ]

When we play on the road and the entire crowd is booing me it doesn't bother me at all. What I think about is simple: "When these fans leave this game I want them to remember how hard I fought and the passion and drive with which I played." I have always played this game with passion. And I always worked hard.

When I saw the movie Rudy I remember thinking, "What if I worked that hard?" God has blessed me both physically and intellectually to play this game, so what would happen if I push as hard as the character in this film? I would love for people to think of me as a talented overachiever. Even though those fans may chant "Kobe sucks" when they leave that arena I want them to walk out with a different feeling than they came in with. When they leave they'll leave with the understanding that they have just witnessed a player give himself completely to his passion; they have just watched an athlete pour every ounce of his heart and soul out on that floor.

And hopefully, when the next volume of my life is all said and done, they will respect and appreciate the years that I spent giving all of me to the game that means everything to me.

That would make him the Michael Jackson of the NBA....Look for
the sequined gloves and high water stockings any day now
Mike said he was more comfortable on the stage than anywhere
else (with people over 21, lol)

Metaphysics in hoops. I love it. Understand this comment and
agree with it. Just gotta lol at Kobe for trying to explain it and
actually do a paid interview to profit from it. Defeats the whole
purpose. Ima start calling him "Sho Nuff" because he's defouling

Good Post Cran

Kobe is still not humble enough to say he was WRONG!!!!

I saw his interview with Stephen A the other night and he is so obviously being PC. Nothing too real...pat answers..( Contrast this with A.I.'s interview or Michael Irving), and more worried about controlling the perception of who he is as opposed to being candid.

He is very young and has some more growing to do.

He is a helluva player though though not what the NBA tries to make him.

Thanks for the info....you always come up with the goods for those of us that want insight.

Did you play in the NBA? I beleive I saw you write that in an earlier post.

Why in your opinion is Kobe overrated?

Is it politics?

Your elaboration would be appreciated

simple. controversial, and will be disputed by the insecure, but 100% TRUTH.

jerry west saw potential. jerry buss saw $$$.

jerry buss picked tobe because AT THE TIME he was drafted, tobe was a teen. jerry buss knew that tobe would appeal to the LARGEST consumer demographic at the time (the teenager). that meant that asses would be in the seats, eyeballs would be glued to the televisions, and every rugrat across the country would want to be outfitted with a tobe jersey...

jerry buss knew that teenagers aren't very discerning; american teens turned other untalented or marginally talented teens into overnight sensations: think nsync, back street boys, britney spears. BUT teens spend. and that made jerry buss drool over the possibilities.

in the meantime, those teens were proud (awed, in fact) to see someone from their generation on the court. those same teens aged, but their knowledge of basketball never matured. they continued to think fondly of tobe, without evidence or weighing the actual merit (or lack thereof) of his game.

tobe is a streaky outside shooter with good range
tobe is an athletic young man with some quickness and good leaping ability
tobe is a good free throw shooter (an excellent one, by today's lower standards)

these positives don't amount to a good player. or even an average player.
more importantly, these attributes are FAR outweighed by tobe's inability and unwillingness to play D, improve his teammates, or WIN.

answer these 2 questions:

1) what is the fakers win/loss record right now?
2) what was the fakers win/loss record at this same time last year?

tobe's proven he can score. so what.

tobe's profound stupidity and typical euro tunnel-vision prevents him from being a good or great player.

bobcats v. fakers - lamar odom

the fakers, who mentally-challenged people allege have the greatest player in the league, LOST to the team with the WORST record in the league.

NOT the worst record in their division.

NOT the worst record in their conference.

the WORST record in the LEAGUE.

i'm sure the fakers fans and tobe fans are readying their usual bullshit excuses as to why the fakers lost, but if you'd asked me, i could've told you before tip-off the fakers would lose.

HOW?

because the fakers went to war without lamar odom. victimized and scapegoated ruthlessly by so-called fans (clearly not of basketball), lamar odom is HANDS DOWN the most valuable player on the fakers roster.

PROOF

look up the win/loss record of the fakers' when lamar odom isn't in the lineup.

now compare it to all the other pretenders on the fakers.

NO contest.

UGLY truth: lamar odom's absence is the reason why the fakers didn't make the playoffs last season. guess tobe couldn't WILL the team to victory, huh?

and for the record, i'm NOT a lamar odom fan. but i recognize that even a pot head who tries to make his teammates better is far more valuable than a eager scorer with an itchy trigger finger.

Without the camera in their face, a lot of NBA players will tell you that Wobe is overrated.

Cranrab's assessment of Wobe was accurate and I find it comical that you head is so far up Wobe's ass you can't even see the game when it is on to understand. Or maybe its because your knowledge of basketball is so inept, you don't understand what is going on on the court other than scoring the goal as equating to being a supreme talent. Dont worry though man, I thought that same way about the game before I started playing in Jr. High school.

You NBA playstation, YMCA rec league wanna bees make me :puke: at your apparent lack of understanding of the game but strong adamancy of your opinions like they are fact. Lakers' Mihm sidelined vs. Hornets
/ Associated Press
Posted: 1 hour ago

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Los Angeles center Chris Mihm was held out of the Lakers' game Saturday night against the New Orleans Hornets because of a sprained right shoulder.

Mihm, who had started 45 of the Lakers' first 46 games, is averaging 10.6 points and 6.8 rebounds.
The Lakers were also without Lamar Odom for the second straight game with sprained rib cartilage. Odom, the Lakers' second-leading scorer and top rebounder, had started all 45 games before missing the Lakers' 112-102 loss at Charlotte on Friday.

Slava Medvedenko (back) and Aaron McKie (quadriceps) also remained out for Los Angeles.

Brian Cook started in place of Mihm, and Sasha Vujacic made just his fourth start of the season in Odom's position.

funny, but i thought i read somewhere that the league's greatest player was on the fakers... and that he could will his team to victory whenever he wanted...

tobe is SO raw... tobe is leading the fakers on a 4 game LOSING streak behind his awesome play... to quote steve kerr, tobe is the obvious and only choice for MVP...

for example, against the mavericks tonight, tobe went 5-22 FGAs with 4 TOs and 4 PFs...

that's 20+ changes of possession for the opponents...

the fakers lost by 15...

the scapegoaters are gonna have a difficult time blaming this loss on the other fakers starters, because together the fakers starters NOT named tobe shot 53% FGAs.

lamar odom 7-13 FGAs
brian cook 4-9 FGAs
chris mihm 3-6 FGAs
william parker 6-10 FGAs

yeah, i can see that those 'no-talent' bums were really having a bad shooting nights  ... tobe had EVERY right to hoist up 27 shots when those clowns weren't stepping up  ...

i mean, damn, even a blind man could see that 'all world' tobe shouldn't have been passing the rock to his teammates, because he shot a miraculous 37% FGAs tonight  ...

when you combine tobe's 17 missed FGAs with his 4 TOs and 3 PFs, hell, that's only 20+ changes of possession for the opponent FROM A SINGLE PLAYER... that's NO reason to point fingers at tobe  ...

aw hell, tobe's just gonna 'will' the fakers to victory next game, right?
