Doug Williams will always be one of my heroes no matter what list folks put him on. But if we're going to rank them behind Moon, how are we going to leave out the second black QB to win NFL (co) MVP?
Steve McNair
RIP#9
An Alcorn State (I-AA) legend who nearly won the damn Heisman! People don't understand how significant of an achievement that was. I absolutely HATED how Jeff Fisher neutered this man's game for so long with the Titans. Any other coach or team and Mac might have thrown for 40000 yards and won a ring. Still managed to take a team to the Super Bowl and led them to another AFC title game in 2002. Fisher hasn't won a playoff game since Mac left. And if I'm not mistaken, he has more playoff wins than any other black QB in history (5). Four time Pro Bowler.
Mac was the toughest QB in the NFL. Even Favre stated this. That man was beat up like a '74 Bonneville every week and played. He was quiet and that's why he never got the national love he deserved. And yes I recognize that people are going to judge him based on the terrible way he died, but they shouldn't. Loved what Williams, Cunningham, McNabb and others accomplished, but #9 gets the second spot.
And shout out to owner Bud Adams who wasn't afraid to have a black QB lead his team on multiple occasions (Moon, McNair, and even Vince Young).
