It wasn't worth discussin really. He came, did it big, got exposed, and disappeared all in the same year really.
They hated on him just like anybody else. Many said he was fake. Trying to be black. Trying to take advantage of a black art form. Pretty much the way rappers do to anybody new. Are you doing a history paper?

I mean it just seem like it would have been more of an uproar or something. I ain't trying to offend anyone but I really was thinking that nobody spoke on that shit. What was funny was it was a non rapper who ethered him. That person's name is Aresenio Hall. Arsenio at that time was a notorious kiss ass host but when he went in on Vanilla Ice when he was on his show, I was like.

I'd love to watch that shit. i'm gonna try to find it.
He got dissed by 3rd Bass and a few others you dropped disses on him in their songs. They saw a white boy getting shine who did not pay industry dues. He was the biggest white hope in rap since Beastie Boys(who actually had respect from black fans).
]I dont remember anyone dissing Tone Loc.he was in the same boat with hammer, young mc, tone loc, etc,,, all those kats were targeted as "wack rappers" by the core hip~hop crowd
In Living color took stabs at all of them but CB4 put the nail in the death box. What was funny was it was a non rapper who ethered him. That person's name is Aresenio Hall. Arsenio at that time was a notorious kiss ass host but when he went in on Vanilla Ice when he was on his show, I was like.
that's not accurate. they hated that he was a WHACK white rapper getting shine. their point was that millions of white people who didn't even fuk with hip hop would think that the 'style' vanilla ice was kicking was what emceeing was all about.
on top of that? they worked hard for years to get respect from black emcees in the underground, and they worried that vanilla ice would set white rappers back 20 years and they weren't havin that.
but if u 2 young to really know about vanilla ice, u probably don't know sheit about guys like the treacherous 3, the fantastic emcees, whodini, the fatboys and utfo, huh?
dayum, i'm havin a 'fantastic' flashback: "WE'RE THE FANTASTIC....EMCEEEEEEEES/AND WE'RE GETTING ALL THE LADIEEEEEEES......AND WHEN WE ROCK THE MIKE AND DO IT RIGHT, ALL THE PEOPLE THEY GO CRAZZZEEEE (they go crazeeeeee)...."
. He did not pay the dues his black counterparts had to pay. They hated on him just like anybody else. Many said he was fake. Trying to be black. Trying to take advantage of a black art form. Pretty much the way rappers do to anybody new. Are you doing a history paper?

And the most amusing fact is that Vanilla Ice (who'd been a popular DJ locally, with black audiences, for years before he broke out) was more DOWN than Arsenio Hall would, or could, ever be.
Hall was Eddie Murphy's valet.

Sure what I said was accurate about Vanilla Ice. He did not pay the dues his black counterparts had to pay.
they weren't hot that he got large w/o paying dues. if he was dope and just came out and blew up then there wouldn't have been a problem. he was whack and blew up 'overnight' and that's when the problem came for him. but then again, if he woulda been out for YEARS and known as a whack rapper and blew up, he still woulda caught wreck

not too rare .....It was a rare case of a black guy making money off of a white artist for a change.
