See that's the problem. I feel like I am doing just that. Had one come to me and say man I don't know nothing about you. She was like you just come here and just go to work and not say anything to us. My answers to them about stuff outside of work are usually Yes or No.

They're playing a game to get you tossed out. You're young and got a degree. They don't want you in there.

Welcome to the working world. I'm telling you; if you're black, you gotta work twice as hard to get about the same as the average white person. So if you keep it steady and make it hard to lose you, you will do fine and move up. You gotta be too valuable to lose, period. I know, it's politics. But make sure you know that when you enter into a business, you automatically enter into the political arena.

Now these white girls are frustrated. They want something on you to go tell your boss. That's why they said what they said to try to get you fired. So they're cut-throat. Now you know the game.

So play it up. Be that unknown enigma that don't play their games. Know and learn that if you do your job to the fullest, be the best and go home- those white girls can't touch you.

And if you can't handle the politics, start your own business.

Well not having experience to go with your degree will make it hard finding that dream job, learned that very quickly. Yea after 3 to 4 yrs you would be qualified to a manager but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get it. College grads get the first look. Also that week on week off schedule ain't bad.

Don't trip about that either. You gotta start somewhere. Get that experience. At least you gotta job.

After working at this job for months I knew I made a horrible mistake coming here. I hated this job so much, I like you began to drink heavily and became depressed until I said fuck it and started applying to at least 5 jobs a day just to get out of that hell hole. The main selling point you sell to potential employers is your ability to multi task and supervise at the same time. Don't tell potential employers during the interview process about how Walgreens turns you into an overpaid stock boy; underpaid since they snatched the overtime.

The best thing to do is start applying to all the non-retail jobs that you see. There is going to be bullshit and politics where ever you go, but at least sit behind a desk and have a little control over life instead of being an intelligent educated brother running evertime some meth head checker needs change or some stoner is trying to return stolen Visine. Run 4 your life.

Yeah, just go there to do your job and push yourself. I've met some genuinely good people who I worked with and under, but I've run into some true backstabbers and idiots at the bottom and the top. I kept my life and true self at home cause I knew there would be drama if they knew what my off the clock life was like. All my past managers knew about me was my schedule and they could rely on me working hard every day, with possibly 1 or 2 people truly knowing what's up.

I know where you coming from cause I worked with this crazy white lady assistant manager that tried to get me fired several times. Bitch had a lock on me like a sniper, eventually I had to quit. The next job I had all I talked about was the job with people. They could be like "Aw man, do you watch Heroes?" I'd be like "Backstock these. I think the conveyors broke. You speaking the truth on these two things. Killing that overtime for us was a bitch. I'm blessed that I got to go to college for free so I'm not feeling the impact of it yet like others. I"m able to save, save, save having no one to pay back.

co-sign to the above. I've been working since i was in HS now im a college grad and I never discussed my opinions about the job with co-workers. Hell I never discuss my personal life to co-workers, the only thing I talk about is work related things. Anywhere you work people can be cutthroat, even managers. Thats why the best thing to do is to JUST DO YOUR WORK. Ninjas can say all the negative things they want about you but aslong as your doing your work they cant do nothing to you because your doing what you are supposed to.

And dont hangout with employees after work, I mean you can hangout with them not to look like a deadfish but do not and I mean DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES MAKE IT A HABIT OR AN EVERYWEEK KIND OF THING. situations like your job is full evidence theres actually alot of people in the work force and on the planet who dont have a life, so their only life is to stir trouble at work because at home they're single, lonely and a bunch of bums who got nothing exciting going on in their lives beside their job. ninjas look forward to comming into work everyday, where people who have a life dont(regardless if its a career) because they have a life outside of it.

See I saw your first problem asap. You think because you have a degree that entitles you to do something. My cousin is an Assistant Manager there to. Its how you carry yourself how you're treated. If you come off as silly and not strong about yourself how you think you going to be treated. Man come off strong then a motherfucker at work. Heck if you don't know something act like you know it and work that shit out. Also don't be so quick to jump on a bandwagon like you talking about that janitor shit. I've been where you are and countless others have. Yeah when your money gets up you'd be surprised at what you like. Figured I would give an update on my situation.

I tried to transfer to another store but the District Manager didn't want that. They tried to tell me they got a new person doing overnight, and that the store I'm at, which is in a poor Mexican neighborhood, would be to much for them. They had no problem starting me there when I started overnights.

Well things are a lot better. I think I got a better understanding of the white women. They know now to not talk to me at all unless it is about work. I use to let them tell me how their day went but now once they start talking about shit outside of work I will just str8 up walk away. Sounds mean but I was like fuck it they have tried and will try to get me fired and not give a fuck about it so fuck them.

The head boss likes me b/c I do my work and she knows she can get me to come in on my week off when they need help, so I feel safe on keeping my job.

The only thing I'm worried about is these white boys I work with, they are on some angry white man shit. The white girl assistant manager got promoted to EXA(position under being the head Store Manager) and she has only been a assistant for year and a half. One white boy has been there for 3 yrs and the other 5. Keeping my eye on them.

I just go in at night get my work done, battle with the prostitutes, crackheads, and get to see some homegrown when I have to work in the photo lab.

As soon as University of Oklahoma starts hiring again I'm going to be all up on that.
