Re: Vince Staples: 90's Hip Hop Is Overrated "There's Not A 50 Cent & kanye In The 90

Everybody's going to say the era they grew up in is the greatest.

I imagine in 10-15 years, these 2000s babies are going to be having round table discussions about Kanye, Lil' Wayne and Drake like they're some of the GOATs.

it depends tho, the way he put it was the 90's was nothing special and the 2000's were the shit, but in the 90's even tho i liked current 90's r&b i still knew how good 70's r&b was

Right. I collect vinyl and the majority of the stuff I buy is from the 60's and 70's. And I was born in 84

Re: Vince Staples: 90's Hip Hop Is Overrated "There's Not A 50 Cent & kanye In The 90

Sometime it's takes a few decades of experience to for perspective to kick in. I'm a 90's head, but the 70's imo, was the greatest period for Black music the older I get, and I didn't live through any of that music. Then again my dad shits on the 70's and says ain't shit fucking with the 50"s with early Coltrane and big band Ellington.

These young kids will come around to understanding how dope the 90's hip hop was relative to shit moving forward.

Hoo?

Re: Vince Staples: 90's Hip Hop Is Overrated "There's Not A 50 Cent & kanye In The 90

I fucks with Vince heavy, but he's crazy. At the same time, he was born in 93 so his coming of age was in the 00's, so you expect that to be his favorite era just like the 90s was to us born in the 80s. I would say 87-97 for me.

Kid is dope though and his cuz Joey Fatts is dope too.

Summertime '06 was very overrated to me. He's ok.

Re: Vince Staples: 90's Hip Hop Is Overrated "There's Not A 50 Cent & kanye In The 90

At what point do we agree that kanye has been a below average artis? In the 90s, a wack artist didnt necessarily exist long wnough to drop 9 or 10 albums. In the 90s, wack artists couldnt eat. Today, the inverse is true. A dope artist cannot survive in this environment.

I agree.

Like somebody else said, it's that young arrogance.

I used to feel the same way about 90s Hip-Hop. I used think it sounded dated and I would never like it. I respected it, but I wasn't trying to hear no shit like BDP, Gangstarr, Brand Nubian, Public Enemy, etc., I thought all 90s hip-hop would sound like that.

Then I started digging thru the crates (the internet) and realized I just didn't like East Coast 90s rap (aside from Bad Boy and Def Jam). I like West Coast and Southern 90s rap. I ended up finding a gang of shit from the 90s that I love.

It's all a matter of taste.

90s hip-hop was much more diverse than it is now. Everybody is either a wannabe drug kingpin or a back packer now, thus why he mentioned 50 and Kanye.

To say that all 90s hip-hop is overrated just shows that he's never even tried to look for some 90s hip-hop he'd be into. He probably just stopped at Biggie and 2pac.

Re: Vince Staples: 90's Hip Hop Is Overrated "There's Not A 50 Cent & kanye In The 90

He's smart enough to be steadfast in his bullshit convictions.

Reminds me of me at 22.

He mentioned Aerosmith in the same breath as the Stones, which is a joke.

Re: Vince Staples: 90's Hip Hop Is Overrated "There's Not A 50 Cent & kanye In The 90

on his twitter feed he claims that Snoop is from the 2000's and not the 90's. is he trolling or just plain stupid?

Re: Vince Staples: 90's Hip Hop Is Overrated "There's Not A 50 Cent & kanye In The 90

Welp... He said something stupid enough for us to know his name now lol.

Good luck young man. I won't rate you in how stupid you are.

If you rap good enough IN SPITE of your stupidity to stay around and have me know who you are based on a song rather than your dumb mouth, you'll probably figure out how stupid you sound by then.

Young guys say dumb shit from time to time. I'll try and be patient with him.

He claims Blue Carpet Treatment is Snoop's best album.

The ignorance of youth and I blame the elders around him for not educating him

I don't think he's a great rapper

He's ok...but I rock with dude, because he's one of the dudes who actually tries to say something in his music
