they have a similar type of story that NWA had....they were highly controversial in their time..they got arrested for offending the establishment not in the fuck the police way..but they still caused congressional hearings. Luther Campbell had similar bacchanalian exploits and they fizzled out in the end like NWA..
give them the same cinematic treatment and viral marketing and I don't know if theyd get the SAME results but it would be close...
The reaction by the govt and backlash by white middle america is the biggest most compelling thing BOTH groups had going for them. NWA in a violent gangster way and 2 Live Crew in a lewd sexually vulgar way.
no other groups in rap music ever got that at least not to the degree those two did.
OK I'll give you that one...they may be the only ones that could come close... good story but numbers wise it wouldn't be the same
So they made 56 mil.....not bad.

Do you want to guess the second week numbers?
Straight Outta Compton is indeed the least surprising surprise hit of the summer, soaring to a whopping $60.2 million in its debut weekend. That’s the fifth-biggest August debut ever, the seventh-biggest R-rated debut of all time, and nearly triple the previous best debut for a musical biopic. Walk the Line, James Mangold’s Johnny Cash biopic, debut with $22m back in 2008 on the way to a $119m domestic cume. Straight Outta Compton was already the 14th biggest such film after a single day of release, and after today it will be the fourth biggest, not adjusted for inflation. Within the week it will pass Coal Miner’s Daughter ($67m) and Ray ($75m) to become second only to Walk the Line. How quickly it passes that figure is merely a question of whether it holds up next weekend.
i think a P.E. movie would work....![]()
If there was no Dr. Dre... there wouldn't have been no west coast rap or lil Wayne
