Mr Willie talking about the first black paramedics was something I never knew about.
Powerful and I appreciate the writers incorporating this into the show.

@playahaitian
I remember being in school (80s and 90s) and having our names read out, either by regular teachers or substitutes. Teachers were ALWAYS fucking up names. My name got butchered a number of times, and as a kid it's embarassing when people start chuckling or laughing. I've heard my name said a good 7 - 10 different ways. People adding letters to it. Not sounding it out. It's NOT that fucking hard, and looking back I kind of wish I had the "kid confidence" to check them on that shit, like "here's how you say it properly, you stupid fuck ..."
Even now when I'm asked to say my name over the phone when renewing something, or booking an appt I'll say my name and just quickly say to them the last name is spelled and break it in two.
It saves me from wondering why these idiots are adding letters to it and shit.
^^^^^
Yup
I think what trips people up too is the silent letters and sounds in names too.
My best advice is always just slow down IF you are unsure about names and pronunciations. Sound it out for yourself ...
You are describing something we used to call respect consideration patience
