Baby Farm
2025

5.5/10

This series randomly popped up in my recommendations earlier this month. Then I came across an article about it on the New York Times website and it caught my interest.

I saw it was labeled as Season 1 on Netflix. I was hesitant in watching and getting into it cuz of Netflix’s history of debuting new series and leaving them in limbo or outright cancelling it before anybody gets a chance to watch it. I watched it cuz it only has 5 episodes in season one that run between 30-40 minutes each, so watching the episodes back to back equate to a 3 plus hour film.

I watched it last night on the road on Netflix.

When I started watching it, I went into it expecting something different, but the series basically plays out the way the synopsis states and what you see in the trailer. It’s basically a low burn thriller series.

After finishing it, there were a couple of questions I had on what was going on with the Baby Farm. Even though the season ended solidly, there is potential to extend it out for about 3 or 4 seasons for a good run.

It’s an interesting series, nothing for surprises or suspense. With what is going on today with global birth rates dropping, this series somewhat fits in with that story and where the series could go, including adding some Sci-Fi elements to it.

There is no graphic violence or nudity.

The series is from Nigeria. Nigerian actors go back and forth with English as the dominant language, but drift into native tongues periodically. Sub-titles come up when they jump to native language. Also, with some actors, their accent is so thick, when they speak English it sounds jumbled, Netflix automatically kicks in with subtitles for those scenes.

Synopsis

The show is a Nigerian thriller focusing on a pregnant woman who gets caught up in a sinister baby farm operation after seeking help from a seemingly charitable organization.

Cory passed at the hotel my friend's brother-in-law used to work at ...

On July 13, 2013, Monteith was found dead in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver. He was 31 years old. Monteith was scheduled to check out that day following a seven-night stay, but when he failed to do so, hotel staff entered his room around noon and found his body. The Vancouver Police Department stated that the cause of death was not immediately apparent, but ruled out foul play.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-63"><span>[</span>63<span>]</span></a> An autopsy was completed by the British Columbia Coroners Service on July 15.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-64"><span>[</span>64<span>]</span></a> The preliminary autopsy report stated that Monteith died from "a mixed drug toxicity" consisting of heroin and alcohol<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-65"><span>[</span>65<span>]</span></a><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-66"><span>[</span>66<span>]</span></a> and that his death appeared to have been accidental.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-globe&amp;mail2013-67"><span>[</span>67<span>]</span></a> The final report, released by the British Columbia Coroners Service on October 2, 2013, confirmed these findings. It noted that Monteith also had codeine and morphine in his system at the time of his death, and that he was found with drug paraphernalia that included a spoon with drug residue and a used hypodermic needle, as well as two empty bottles of champagne. The coroner wrote that Monteith had experienced intermittent periods of drug abuse and abstinence throughout his life, and that "after a period of cessation from opioid drug use, a previously tolerated drug concentration level may become toxic and fatal."<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-globe&amp;mail20132-68"><span>[</span>68<span>]</span></a> His stay in rehab only months before his death and his attempt to stay off drugs resulted in his lowered tolerance to the drug.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-69"><span>[</span>69<span>]</span></a>

Monteith's body was cremated in Vancouver on July 17, following a private viewing by his immediate family and partner Lea Michele.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-70"><span>[</span>70<span>]</span></a> On July 25, Michele and Glee creator Ryan Murphy held a celebration of life for Monteith in Los Angeles, attended by cast, crew, and creators of the show, as well as colleagues from the show's network and studio.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cory_Monteith#cite_note-71"><span>[</span>71<span>]</span></a>

Just finished watching episode 8 of the PiTT (couldn’t sleep) and this by far is my favorite episode.

Mr Willie talking about the first black paramedics was something I never knew about.

Powerful and I appreciate the writers incorporating this into the show.

Agreed. Well done by everyone involved.

DC Dude - there’s some standout episodes for you ahead to close out the season.

He should keep it after ALL these years and Ryan making a whole song fir his birthday?

F**k that. It's YOUR FAMILY NAME.

Make them learn how to pronounce it.

Agreed.

Especially with him and his wife at the peak of their respective careers currently. Each involved in multiple TV series.

They're both in demand.

These white folk feel like you have to EARN the right for them to learn your name. You gotta win Oscar's or break box office or win a chip.

But if you play hockey? Suddenly they all work for the United Nations.

Once Giannis was busting dem up they learned his name.

but in the modern era? This new generation ain't having that and want all the names said proper and im cool with that

I remember being in school (80s and 90s) and having our names read out, either by regular teachers or substitutes. Teachers were ALWAYS fucking up names. My name got butchered a number of times, and as a kid it's embarassing when people start chuckling or laughing. I've heard my name said a good 7 - 10 different ways. People adding letters to it. Not sounding it out. It's NOT that fucking hard, and looking back I kind of wish I had the "kid confidence" to check them on that shit, like "here's how you say it properly, you stupid fuck ..."

Even now when I'm asked to say my name over the phone when renewing something, or booking an appt I'll say my name and just quickly say to them the last name is spelled and break it in two.

It saves me from wondering why these idiots are adding letters to it and shit.

Yup

SMOKE

One of the best things about this series is the chemistry between Dave Gudsen (Taron Egerton) and Michelle Calderon (Jurnee Smollett) as they investigate arson and who may be the arsonist behind it. The first episode was a bit lackluster but right in the middle of episode 2 something felt eerily off. This coupled with the vibe of a couple of characters, their personal problems, the crazy turn the show makes and the aforementioned chemistry will definitely make this a weekly watch. Its so well acted and to watch characters boil over was incredible to watch and involving.

Finished Squid Game S3
July is going to be a light month of tv show releases for me

1. Dexter: Resurrection (season 1) Paramount+
2. Twisted Metal (season 2) Peacock

Dexter - Resurrection, and Untamed for me.

I just need to finish Dexter - Original Sin (from late-2024) before then. Have a handful of eps left.
