Transformers was Extremely Racist!

When I first saw this thread, I ignored it and thought the person who created it was buggin. But after I saw this ridiculous (aka trash) movie tonight, I completely understand where the OP is coming from. There were unecessary racial undertones throughout the whole movie. There was a lot of unecessary things in this movie, including the overwhelming amount of comedy, but the racial stabs were definitely there. Transformers was my religion when I was a kid, so I know that Jazz was always the hiphop autobot of the crew, but it struck me as a little odd how quickly his sambo role became evident. The very second he showed up, he says "Wuddup lil bitches? This looks like a good place to chill," all the while break dancing his ass off. Why was all of that needed? Yea yea I know the robots studied our lingo through the internet (yawn) but it was clear what kind of person Jazz represented. The police officer in the station got in the kid's face and says "Oh you staring at my piece, huh 50 Cent?" What are you talking about? Then, you had ya man in the army who played the generic latino dude role, speaking spanglish out the ass like he doesn't know how to form a full sentence in one language. Within 10 minutes, he was already told to speak English 3 times by the white boys and Tyrese's bum ass. Again, disrespectful in taste. There was at least 3 references to the Japanese in the movie, in regards to the technology of the Transformers, including when dude put the cell phone in that contraption and said "Those Nokias are fiesty. The Japanese know the way of the sword," or something to that notion. What? Again, I have to ask why? Matter of fact, Jazz reminded me of that super-coon Coltrane in Gears of War. I just don't understand what the point was with all of the subliminal comedy in the movie. I don't feel that it belong in this movie and was almost used as a tool. For what, I don't know, but it just contributed to an overall waste of 2 1/2 hours. I'm glad I didn't get hyped up for another resurfaced franchise. Nothing and nobody ever holds true to its original form these days.

I do have to say one thing, however. To all of the people replying with "Its just a movie, get over it, its all animated, they're just actors, blah blah." I feel the worst for you, because you fail to truly see whats in front of you. Even if the racism is a reach in this particular movie, its still not just a movie. Racism is stronger now than it was during civil rights times, because it is discreet and joked about. A desensitized mind is the worst kind there is.

I personally thought it was an excellent movie. I saw it on the first night. It had comedy, a great story line, sweet action and best of all, realistic Robot fighting! $8.50 well spent. Transformers is the best movie I've seen this year along with 300 and Spiderman 3.

I enjoyed the movie, but I would definitely have to say there were tones of slaps in the face for blacks if anyone took it personally.

1. Yes...the "niggabot" if you want to call him that. I thought it was rather similar to some guys I know.
2. The bernie mack scene was ridiculous (put this black coon as a nicely added clown in the movie) with the traditional coon talk you can barely understand what the hell he is saying.
3. And on top of that they couldn't stop...let's get another fool coon in our movie and really put some bullshit for blacks to talk about. And yup..they did it...with his eating all the donuts and was supposed to be the advisor to the white girl (but was obviously a fat clown) and then the white girl was the one that solved two major problems...not him...she came up with that super solution to our boy and then he became instant hands on technician under her leadership....some bull.

I usually don't even get into these movies like that, but since you guys mentioned it and I noticed it and was disturbed..i thought I would put my two sense into it.

They may not have deliberately did racist actions (or maybe they did...i weren't there when they made it) but they obviously didn't care in any bit how they portrayed our doing so well culture.

One thing that people have to understand is that black people are doing very well....the media is still non caring and may use us as jokes and clowns just to boost sales.

Unfortunately we do not beef as we did before because we are doing substantially better, but I do believe we can't be fools and ignore the obvious.

It would have been nice to just see some talented respected AA's in the movie rather than singers and jesters of the court.

The problem in mass media is blacks overall are portrayed in negative light. And despite what some ignorant black folks and racist whites think, blacks are not monolithic.

People bring up valid points about stereotypical roles being portrayed in the movie. Jazz was introduced and immediately he breaks out into a breakdance.

The argument about white people can play comedic roles without the scrutiny is very weak. The problem is lack of diverse portrayals, if blacks overall were portrayed in very diverse roles through out the media, I highly doubt anyone would say anything about the black character being the first killed, the breakdancing or anything else they picked up on.

Now i hated Anthony Anderson's character but it stood in contrast to Tyrese, so I wrote him off as the comic relief. He really just did his normal typecast character. Its nothing new. Fuck if he liked the Austrailian broad - DID YOU SEE HER? That chick was fine. This movie played slightly off stereotypes but they covered a lot of ground. They had Indian "outsourced worker" stereotypes, Mexican stereotypes, white stereotypes like the clueless parents as well. I get tired of us being portrayed in a poor light as well but there were several different types of black folk in this flick. I'm lettin' this one ride. Fuck it. There has been and will be much worse to worry about.

The Original Jazz from the G1 cartoon was voiced by an older brotha(can't recall his name) and his character was cool and laid back, the personification of "jazz". So, not surprisingly for this movie, Jazz was given a younger, or rather, "hip hop" swagger. Jazz was cool with me
