Thor: Ragnarok - Official Discussion Thread

After A month... I finally fucking saw Thor and I loved it. It was the perfect tone for Thor. If you watch the first 2 movies... there is actually this extremely nice story arc in place with Thor and Loki. You have to remember that at the Start of Thor... these guys didn't have any real experience with Midguard. You can then see how their interaction with humanity has made them more human.

I do think that once again Marvel has a villain problem. I've got no clue what Hela was trying to do. I would have liked some flashbacks to her relationship with Odin and Thor's mother. I think you needed that to establish why she wanted it all to burn.
I also hated and loved what they did with Skurge. I loved the change to him, but wish that he was able to survive for another movie. I hated what they did to Korg though. I didn't like making him softspoken.

Also... am I crazy but did I see Matt Damon playing Loki in the play.

It was Matt Damon...It’s also a throwback to Dogma, in which Damon also played a version of Loki.

Odin went soft and banished her. She had different ambition and despised his sons. She wanted to rule.

Was there ever an explanation to why Hulk was trying to seemingly kill Thor during the fight? After Thor is finally able to summon up his lightening and end the fight... it cuts to them in a room together afterwards but I never felt like it was explained as to why Hulk (who recognized Thor at some point) was not letting up on his blows.

The directors provide some interesting information in advance of their newest film.
As anticipation for the latest film in Marvel's expansive Cinematic Universe approaches, new information about Avengers: Infinity War begins to surface. After the rousing success of the studio's latest venture, Thor: Ragnarok, directors Anthony and Joe Russo reveal new information about their beloved protagonist after his apocalyptic battle in the film.

Speaking with Marvel Studios Movies, Anthony Russo admits that Thor will undergo an immense change after the destruction of his home planet during Ragnarok's pivotal final moments. The director notes a similar experience shared by Captain America, revealing how "Cap was in a place where we were very much catching him up in the modern world and seeing what that meant to him, and figuring out how you move a character that far forward and that far away from where they started back during the 40s."

The director goes on to note how Thor is given a chance to overhaul his past and gear towards a less certain, but more exciting future away from what he has been accustomed to.

Russo reveals that Infinity War will pick up where Thor left off in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and introduces an interesting interpolation with the God of Thunder and The Guardians of the Galaxy. Seen briefly in the trailer to the film, Thor's intermingling with Star Lord and his affiliates interestingly foreshadows a linkage between the two narratives, as Thor seeks out a new territory to inhabit in the wake of Ragnarok's destruction.

Thor: Ragnarok's KORG Returns To Battle The Hulkverine

After becoming a fan favorite in Thor: Ragnarok, the stone warrior Korg makes a glorious return to Marvel Comics - and runs straight into The Hulkverine.

While he's still been keeping busy in unseen corners of the Marvel Universe, Korg has been away from the spotlight for some time. All that is about to change thanks to his co-creator Greg Pak, who is bringing him back into the fight with Weapon H #8. He may have been introduced as part of the Planet Hulk storyline, but even Korg won't be ready for the might of Hulk mixed with the ferocity of the Wolverine.

The premise of Korg's return may cause some fans to worry that only one of the two combatants will be walking away from the fight - and it's the Hulkverine whose name graces the cover of the comic itself. Fortunately, the plot synopsis for the coming issues suggests that, just like Captain America fighting as Hulkverine's ally, these two brawlers will soon set aside brawling for bonding.

The most stunning twist seems to be the events that actually bring Korg and Clay (the man better known to the world as Weapon H) together, as explained in the issue's synopsis. Prepare yourselves, Marvel fans, for the return... of Weirdworld:

WEIRDWORLD AWAITS! Roxxon built a portal to harness the unlimited energy in this magical realm. But in the process they unleashed a horde of monsters — and they’ve set their sights on Earth’s unlimited supply of flesh! Weapon H has no choice: To protect his family, he must go to war. But one familiar figure has already beat him there: Fans of PLANET HULK and Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, rejoice for the return of the stone man Korg!

And rejoice, fans certainly will - about as much as they have since Marvel confirmed Korg wasn't killed by Thanos after Ragnarok. It will be interesting to see what has turned the villainous Roxxon Corporation from twisted science and experimentation to full-on fantasy, and what "unlimited energy" can be taken from a dimension of swords-and-sorcery adventuring.

With demons and monsters spilling out as a completely impossible to predict, totally shocking development, it would seem that Korg and the Hulkverine's fight should be a short one. Better to spend their time - and strength, and supreme slashing and bashing skills - on slaying the Weirdworld beasts. And all things considered, we would guess that's where this tale is heading.

After delivering a throwback, outlandish adventure with Planet Hulk, it makes sense that Pak would call on Korg as he seeks to do the same with his Hulk-Wolverine. And the artwork by Guiu Vilanova (and this above cover by Philip Tan) is more than up to the challenge. The only thing left to do... is place your bets.

Weapon H, or Korg: who ya got?

saw this for the first time last week and it was one of the better Marvel movies for sure.

But all it is, is a rip-off of the stories of Anu, Enlil, and Enki of the ancient Sumer mythology or the Anunnaki.

Thor: Love and Thunder Adds Guardians of the Galaxy Star Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt will reprise his role of Star-Lord in Thor: Love and Thunder, continuing the crossover between the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is joining the star-studded cast of Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pratt will co-star alongside confirmed Love and Thunder actors Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and director Taika Waititi.

Back in March, Vin Diesel confirmed the fourth Thor film will feature an appearance by the Guardians of the Galaxy. "I am waiting and excited for my friend James Gunn to knock this next one out of the park," Diesel said. "He took The Suicide Squad so he's about to embark on it. Thor will also -- the director talked to me about Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy."

In his last Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance, Thor boarded the Milano with Rocket Raccoon. He realized he wasn't destined to be a king and left the rule of Asgard (at least, what's left of it) to Valkyrie, who accepted despite her disbelief. So he left Earth with the Guardians to go adventuring, though Peter Quill was none too happy about this turn of events.
Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth also chimed in on wanting to see the Avenger team-up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. "I'd play that character again. I love it so much -- especially if there's something unique to do again with it," Hemsworth said in June 2019. "I felt like the last three films were very, very different each time."

Hemsworth recently shared a photo from the first script read for Love and Thunder. "Terrific first script meeting for 'Thor Love and Thunder' with our ever fearless leader Taika Waititi," Hemsworth captioned the photo. "My notes were so detailed and intense that the only way for Taika to fully absorb them was to roll himself into a tight cocoon and bake in the endless possibilities of where the film will take us. The bloke in the background was equally riveted by my storytelling prowess."

Plot details for Thor: Love and Thunder remain tight-lipped, though Natalie Portman has revealed it will borrow heavily from Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman's comic book run on Mighty Thor, with Portman's Jane Foster going through cancer treatment.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Christian Bale in an unconfirmed role. The film arrives in theaters Feb. 11, 2022.
