Alex Shelley Reportedly Jumping To WWE
Posted on 05.22.12 | Category: TNA News, WWE News Tags: Alex Shelley

Alex Shelley, whose contract with TNA Wrestling is set to expire, is reportedly jumping ship to WWE. This is according to former WCW broadcaster Mark Madden. He wrote on Twitter:

“Good luck to Alex Shelley, WWE-bound. A real talent. Let’s c if he’s used rite. Shame 2c MCMGs break up. Best tag team in U.S.”

As previously reported, Alex Shelley has informed TNA that he’s leaving soon.

Needs better sourcing. TNA guys don't have a good history of going to WWE and being successful and the smaller guys have trouble even getting on tv (Consequences Creed, Low Ki).

More Details on Ric Flair’s TNA Departure: Flair Reportedly Went Off Script
Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.23.2012

More on the story…

-According to a source within TNA, a major issue which lead to tension between Ric Flair and TNA was the handling of the Gut Check segment on Impact featuring Alex Silva. Flair reportedly went off script when he chose Silva as the winner, which is now causing issues for TNA for two reasons. First of all Flair went into business for himself, which has upset people. Secondly, Silva is from Quebec, requiring TNA to spend more time and money getting him a US Visa if they want to use him regularly.

Now that's just weird from both sides.

True but Shelley is also a better talker than both and probably more of the prototype for the WWE than either Creed or Low Ki.

Now that's just weird from both sides.

 So he went off script and helped the guy get a contract when he wasn't supposed to. It was taped. They should have just edited it out of the program. Point blank they shouldn't have approved and done the stupid Gut Check segment without the proper steps in place where they would be covered on all or most angles.

True but he's still small. You can look at Daniel Bryan and see how good a guy has to be to be small and get any push and Bryan is more muscular than Shelley. Creed is more muscular than Shelley (but he's Black and you know how that goes).
Shelley might have to learn, if this is true, like a lot of other guys that for all it's faults, TNA is as high as you're going while WWE is run like it is.

Exactly. It was taped. Impact Zone fans have gotten used to them retaping shit. If you know you're not bringing the kid in (and they shouldnt bring in the first guy especially not after having him do a one sided job to Robbie E) then make damn sure everyone involved, including Silva, knows how it's going to go. If a guy fucks that up, retape it.

And ultimately, you don't have to sign him. There are guys sitting at home RIGHT NOW, under contract not being used.

Apparently, Chris Jericho has been indefinitely suspended by WWE for nearly causing a riot at a show in Brazil. He was facing Punk at the show. At one point during the match, Punk was in the ring with the Brazilian flag, waving it around. Jericho took the flag from him and crumpled it up before stomping on it and kicking it out of the ring. This stopped the show dead in its tracks, as Brazilian police were ready to arrest Jericho for committing the crime of "denigrating the flag". Jericho could either be arrested or apologize to the crowd. He apologized and the police allowed the show to go on. After the show, WWE released a statement confirming Jericho's suspension.

Ain't have shit to do with wrestling. You fuck with any countries flag, especially in front of thousands of its people and it's curtains.

thats overboard though,we know its fiction,we know Jericho is the heel, you know he's gonna get beat up for it by CM Punk in the show. I don't understand the big deal

Saw it, laughed. WWE stays getting into shit like this. JBL got major heat for doing Nazi salutes on a tour of Germany years back.

Chris should have known better. He knows Vince wouldn't allow him to do that with the American flag so he just got caught up in the moment.

TNA FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST WWE FOR CONTRACT INTERFERENCE, UNFAIR COMPETITION AND OTHERS ISSUES STEMMING FROM INSIDER INFORMATION GIVEN TO WWE
by Mike Johnson @ 5:12 PM on 5/24/2012

TNA filed a lawsuit yesterday in court in Nashville against WWE and former TNA and WWE office worker Brian Wittenstein for interference with existing contracts, conversion, breach of contract, civil conspiracy, unfair competition, and violation of the Tennessee Uniform Trade Secrets Act. They are also suing Wittenstein for breach of duty of loyalty.
TNA's lawsuit alleges that that Wittenstein, who worked for the company for three years before departing in 2011, provided WWE with inside information on TNA contracts and other matters from his time working in TNA's talent relations and live events departments.

While working for TNA, Wittenstein handled third party bookings for TNA contracts to work independents, scheduling and lots of talent related grunt work. TNA sources at the time of Wittenstein's departure stated he was let go. Wittenstein told PWInsider several months later he had quit.

Wittenstein was hired by WWE earlier this year and worked briefly under Michael Hayes as an assistant before being let go. According to the suit, WWE fired Wittenstein after he presented them with insider TNA information. However, TNA claims that WWE did not approach them with that information until 5/7, several weeks after they let Wittenstein go.

TNA's lawsuit claimed that WWE is now trying to poach contracted talent from TNA, using inside information from TNA contracts to their advantage. Several days later after being contacted by WWE about the Wittenstein issue, Ric Flair (who, as we've reported here, TNA has been having issues with) approached TNA trying to get out of his contract.

TNA is alleging that Flair was trying to get out of his contract in order to go to WWE and that since telling TNA he wanted out of his deal, has not appeared at live events, including the Sacrifice PPV.

In the last week, there have also been rumors that Alex Shelley had turned down a new TNA contract and was looking to go to WWE as well. While those stories have been making the rounds, PWInsider.com has not been able to independently confirm them. Shelley was not specifically mentioned in the lawsuit filing.

An injunction was issued earlier today demanding that WWE and Wittenstein each return whatever confidential material Wittenstein retained from his time working for TNA. They were specifically instructed not to "destroy" any of the material.

I am told a hearing regarding the case is already slated for next month.

We'll have more information as we confirm it.

Note: Flair requesting he wanted out would go against the stories we heard about him being pulled from shows, so if that is indeed the case, we apologize for the error in our Flair story earlier this week.

Busy week for Jerry McDevitt, WWE attorney (for real, not David Otunga:D)

FORMER AWA STAR SUING WWE OVER USING HIS LIKENESS WITHOUT PERMISSION ON DVDS AND OTHER MATERIAL
by Mike Johnson @ 8:01 PM on 5/24/2012

As if we didn't have enough legal news today!

Former AWA World Tag Team champion Doug Somers (Douglas Duane Somerson) filed a lawsuit against WWE and Vince and Linda McMahon in November 2011 regarding the company's usage of AWA footage containing his likeness and matches on four DVDs, WWE Classics on Demand, books and other materials without his personal consent.

Obviously, WWE owns the AWA library, which it purchased from The Gagne family in 2003 for a seven figure price-tag. Since that purchase, Somers has appeared bouts presented by WWE over the last decade, usually matches teaming with the late Buddy Rose against The Midnight Rockers, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty from the 1980s.

IN his lawsuit, Somers alleges "invasion of privacy, unauthorized use of intellectual property, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Georgia Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act". The lawsuit was covered today in an article published on Lexology.com, which has links to a number of the filings in the case.

According to the piece, the lawsuit was filed in Georgia State court. WWE successfully moved to have the case moved to federal jurisdiction. WWE and the McMahons have filed motions to dismiss the case.

WWE's argument is based on the idea that when they acquired the rights to the AWA library, the AWA intellectual property of and copyrights became theirs to monetize as they see fit. Their argument is that Somers knew the footage was being filmed at the time he performed for the AWA and was paid at the time to perform, so he cannot claim copyright ownership. Since WWE now owns the AWA copyrights, they have the right to use the footage.

WWE is also arguing that any usage of Somers' name and likeness were related to telling a factual, newsworthy story and would fall under the First Amendment, just as a news broadcast or article would be protected.

WWE also attempted to shoot down Somers' "right to privacy" claim by noting that Somers described himself in his lawsuit as a "famous professional wrestler."

WWE also used an old lawsuit filed by Ricky Steamboat over alleged royalties owed for old video footage that was dismissed when the court sided with WWF (as they were known at the time) as precedence that Somers' claims don't hold water.

WWE using material that featured talents they don't contractually have any obligation to pay has been a gray area for some time. WWE talents routinely receive royalty payments for appearances on DVD, WWE Classics on Demand material, etc. even well after they leave the company contractually.

However, talents, announcers, etc. who have never had a relationship contractually with WWE (or were not signed to a Legends deal) have not, in most cases, received any form of payment, even when footage involving their likeness is used on WWE produced material. I've had a number of wrestlers and personalities who have worked everywhere from Jim Crockett Promotions to ECW and beyond note that they have never been contacted or offered payment for their likeness and material.

It should be interesting to see if the Somers vs. WWE case opens up the door for more talents who have not been receiving any form of compensation to receive payments from WWE or whether that door ends up closed via a precedent set here.

He's been in the Florida developmental for a long time now. A guy with national tv experience needs that much developing?
That's why I'm doubting on the Shelley story until there's some real confirmation. Why would a guy who's worked pretty consistently for TNA, who let him take dates with ROH, other indies and Japan, go to WWE, where he'll be in FCW for an indeterminate amount of time?

Something else that caught me eye and is a good look for TNA (that they should have done years ago)

All of the backstage vignettes last night on Impact were unscripted in that none of the verbiage was given to the talents involved. They knew where they were going and were pretty much told to treat it as a serious situation like athletes would talking to their coach as a way to build up the importance of the title and getting the title shot. I thought every single person involved, from Hulk Hogan on down, nailed a home run with those segments. There are a lot more plans to let the talents speak in their own words and not tightly script them going forward, as the feeling is it will accentuate the talents and differentiate the TV show from WWE's presentation. So, if you liked what they did last night, that's part of the changes TNA is planning going forward.

yeah..the backstage segments were pretty good

when AJ brought up the olympic god medals to make a point you can see rthe seriousness build in that room.

I know that Creed did suffer some type of injury that put him out for awhile so that affected things. And he is still in school as well I believe pursuing a Masters so I don't know if that has some bearing.
It is ridiculous how long the WWE does keep certain people in developmental and this new thing where they want an established character before calling them up may not be helping since creative isn't really all that creative most of the time.
Plus it may be better that he stay in FCW for the time being as opposed to him getting the Colt Cabana treatment.

As for the lawsuit it seems like everybody knows about TNA contract situations but TNA since guys run out of dates way too often and much too early in the year. Besides in the case of Shelley why stay when they've barely used you for the last year. At least in the WWE he can get a much better payday.

I watched those TNA clips on youtube off the strength of what Dave said I have to admit that was one of the most compelling segments I've seen in a wrestling show in a long time.

Then they lost me by panning to a shot of a big dude wearing an extra medium pink argyle sweater.... :hmm:

Colt Cabana.:smh: Talk about a guy cut out for WWE, that's the guy and they blew it.

Shelley hasn't been used much in the last year but he was injured first then when he came back, his tag partner got hurt but they did use him in the X-Division and they put him and Sabin back to work as soon as they could. He's not going to get better treatment in Stamford. He might, might get a better payday but not for long and then he's back working indies, hoping for a spot to open in TNA.

Just watched Joey Ryan's GutCheck match with Austin Aries and he should be brought in. In fact, having Silva make it means Ryan, who had a much better showing, has to be brought in.

Joey Ryan look's like a 70's porn star and for some reason I believe its entirely not on purpose.

Colt Cabana.:smh: Talk about a guy cut out for WWE, that's the guy and they blew it.

That was the saddest thing about it. He fit the WWE mold more than his buddy CM Punk but never got the chance to do anything when he got called up.

As Gail Kim and Christopher Daniels and Kazarian have proven you can leave and then come back if things don't work out. Worst case scenario is that he gets hurt but beyond that anytime in the WWE would probably allow him to charge more in the Indys or maybe he gets the hookup in Japan like MVP. Besides I don't know if I'd want to be in TNA right now with Hogan and Bischoff still having pull when they have already failed to do much with me.

Actually it is on purpose. Actually the gimmick was to be more a play off of Magnum P.I. as well as Magnum T.A. with the thought being that while T.A. was over in the 80's with his look nowadays he would be booed out of the building and made fun of.

Ahhhh I was wondering why they had my man out there looking like "Big Peter Dinklage"

The music playing in the back was a little much but i like the improve style because it forces wrestlers to be creative and not blame creative(wwe).

hopefully we wont be seeing brooke hogan on camera as much  she just working behind the scenes now but i bet down the line theyll come up w/ some story angle where, say, gail kim or madison rayne call her out on camera

As previously reported, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar was in attendance on Saturday night’s UFC 146 main event, watching UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos defeat Frank Mir to retain his Championship.

During the UFC 146 post-fight PPV press conference, UFC President Dana White was asked about Lesnar’s appearance and revealed Lesnar is considering a return to MMA.

White was asked whether Lesnar’s appearance tonight meant anything, where White confirmed there was, replying only by saying, “maybe” with a smile. He was also asked if Lesnar will be returning to the UFC and if his spoken to the former UFC Champion. White said he hasn’t spoken to him yet but he will let everyone know if anything happens.

White also confirmed that Lesnar maybe making a return to MMA.

Lesnar retired from MMA in December 2011 and made his return to WWE in April, reportedly signing a one year deal with the company.

:smh::smh:

Either this is part of the being fired deal, which I doubt or he just truly loves the spotlight.

very impressive...
:yes::yes::yes:

Impressive (I sure as hell couldn't do it) but I've seen Eric Young fireman's carry James Storm and Bobby Roode AND Jacqueline at the same time and you know Jackie's titties are heavy as hell.:D

Everybody needs a gimmick, man.

They've killed the Abyss character with all the random changes and stupid storylines. Even when he won the World Title it was by DQ. He should have tried to go to the WWE years ago.

I remember there being talk of him negotiating with them but he ended up staying with TNA.
He's one of those guys that's been there so long and done so much, he needs time away to freshen up his character. They really need to bring back James Mitchell.

As Gail Kim and Christopher Daniels and Kazarian have proven you can leave and then come back if things don't work out. Shelley doesn't need a hook up in Japan, unlike MVP, he's already a name there.
Kim and Frankie left and came back (Daniels never left, they just rented him out to ROH, they didn't even take his face off their roster on their website) but Chris Harris didn't and neither did Low Ki (full time).
There are plenty of guys who can say they've lost ground since Hogan and Bischoff came but not Shelley. The Machine Guns worked higher on the card since those two got there than they were before when they were almost fired until Mick Foley fought hard for them. They didn't win the titles until Hogan and Bischoff got there.

:smh::smh:

Either this is part of the being fired deal, which I doubt or he just truly loves the spotlight.

He loves the spotlight and so does Dana White.
I'm sure the door is open for him to come back but he's going to have to quit WWE again and then WWE would look even more justified in having him job to Cena.
