Andrew Lincoln to Star in The Walking Dead

On the heels of AMC announcing it has greenlit "The Walking Dead" for six episodes, for Season One, AMC announced today it has signed Andrew Lincoln ("Teachers," Enduring Love, "Strike Back") to portray the lead role of Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer who leads a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse. As previously announced, actor Jon Bernthal ("The Pacific," The Ghost Writer) will portray the character Shane, a survivor who was Rick's police partner before the zombie disaster. Today's announcement also includes the addition of Jack LoGiudice ("Sons of Anarchy," "Resurrection Blvd") as Co-Executive Producer.

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, AMC's "The Walking Dead" is scheduled to premiere this October during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films. AMC Fearfest (formerly known as MonsterFest) is celebrating its 14th year by airing 14 consecutive days of themed programming with more than 50 films.

"The Walking Dead" begins production in June in Atlanta. Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion serves as Executive Producer. Charles "Chic" Eglee ("Dexter," "The Shield," "Dark Angel") serves as Executive Producer.

"Andrew is an incredibly gifted actor. He has the presence and attitude to bring this character and story to life. We are thrilled that he is joining the cast," said Joel Stillerman, SVP of original programming, production and digital content.

"Andrew Lincoln, wow -- what an amazing find this guy is. Writing Rick Grimes month after month in the comic series, I had no idea he was an actual living breathing human being and yet here he is. I couldn't be more thrilled with how this show is coming together," said Kirkman.

"The Walking Dead" tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The comic goes on to explore the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies who take a toll on the survivors, and sometimes the interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the zombies that roam the country. Over time, the characters are changed by the constant exposure to death and some grow willing to do anything to survive.

AMC's Joel Stillerman, senior vice president of original programming, production and digital content, Susie Fitzgerald, senior vice president scripted development and current programming, and Vlad Wolynetz, vice president of production, series and movies, oversee the development and production of the new drama.

Sign up for the newsletters. When info on the comic cons come up. Get a ticket or wait for the free tickets (up to you)...head to their comic sales section and do some box diving. I only look for the TPB and those are marked on the box.

Jim Hanley's Universe in Manhattan - http://jhuniverse.blogspot.com/ is a great store to hit.

They sometimes have bundle sales. Where they take all the issues of a limited series in one plastic for $4.00. They also have TPB mark down to 1/2 a lot.

One of my wives work around there. She heads to the shop weekly and always comes home with some goodies for cheap.

There is another comic store in the village near NYU...the only thing is that I over 6 ft 5 tall and I can not fit inside that motherfucker. But they be having crazy deals...I have to send someone inside that motherfucker for real...it's small. I picked up a lot of DC Elseworlds TPB for $1.00 there often.

It's a nice little store. They have a decent selection in their dollar bins but with so many costumes it's hard to maneuver in their sometimes.

They do have costumes I never seen before though like that 1977 Zombi suit.

This just in: Prison Break fave Sarah Wayne Callies has just scored the female lead in AMC’s eagerly anticipated The Walking Dead series, based on Robert Kirkman’s megapopular comic books!

The Ausiello Files fave will portray Lori Grimes, the slowly-unraveling wife of the show’s hero, Rick (Andrew Lincoln).

is it a script copy of the comic?

loosely based on the comic?

does it have the original creators directly involved/in charge of the project?

are they going with a black and white or color show? black and white worked for the myst.

I think it was either the end of issue 70 or 69 where Kirkman (writer/creator of TWD) was talking about the TV show, said he saw the script and is excited and basically gave it his seal of approval. Says its faithful to the comic, but not to the point where fans can predict everything thats gonna happen, making it boring.

Personally, I prefer that films/TV shows NOT be made of comics. Something always gets lost in translation and most of the times it makes the comic book medium look poorer in the end.

I hope it's a good show and I will give it a chance when I can.
 
AMC has added to the cast of Frank Darabont's apocalyptic zombie drama "The Walking Dead."

The production has tapped Laurie Holden for the role of Andrea, a key member of the survivor group who has a proficiency with a sniper rifle and falls for a man twice her age.

Holden was in writer-producer-director Darabont's "The Mist" and had a recurring role in the final season of FX's "The Shield."

In addition, newcomer Steven Yeun has been added to the cast as Glenn. He and Holden join Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey DeMunn and Jon Bernthal on the show.
