 This list and all lists is their opinion, and we all have our own. I never get mad when I read them since they hold no ground. No one in the world will have the same exact top 50.

No the ghostwriter did a good job on that

I'm really feeling the top 6 and the order of the top 3. Exactly who I would have although I'd have EM 4th. LL is way too high, Dre 300 too low, Lupe WAYYYYYYYYY too low and how is Kanye above him? 50 cent shouldn't be in the top 100 lol

They made too big of a point to add a lot of old heads although lyricism evolved after their time. Kool G and Big Pun should be top 15

Snoop above GZA??? No RZA or Inspectah Deck????? The most underrated lyricist ever Cassidy isn't on here at all??? Definitely needs editing. They just added way too many main stream artists on here when it should be about lyrics...

jay-z wrote that shit

I thought em or Royce wrote it but I could be wrong don't quote me I know jay writes a lot for dre but em and Royce (before the falling out) wrote a lot of 2001 either way dre doesn't belong

Budden missing
Rae missing
Lupe is low
T.I. is low, too low on the list...

The list is bullshit...these mags steady put out bullshit list. The only thing that does surprise me is that Benzino is not on the list; the way they treated Em & 50 :hmm:

Personally I'd switch Lauryn Hill and Common...And I'd have Phonte in the top 20..

personally would have Eminem out of the top 10 since i've never really been a fan but I can't deny the kid has skills so I don't have tooo much of a problem with him being ranked so high.

other than that the list is cool with me

So LL Cool J is a better Lyricists than Kweli, Kanye and Lupe.

Get the fuck out of here.

If this was an impact list, maybe I could buy it. Even then the shit is booty.

kanye needs help to write his lines

good job, i agree with this list,,, swap lauryn hill for mc lyte & it's pretty much dead on

Pun should at least be in the top 10. Biggie, as much as I liked his music is too high. So is Jay, and Pac. Rakim, Nas, KRS-ONE top 3 in no particular order....Royce at 48? GTFOH Mos Def at 23? Too low. They just threw in Lil' Kim, Lauryn and Latifah so their list wouldn't exclude females. List is so much BS....then again, it is The Sauce....

Correction, Eminem wrote that shit. You can tell by the word structure and flow. He was even on the song with him...

He wrote Still Dre, Em did that shit...reason why both should be higher up than what they are

S. Carter wrote it. Read the credits on the album cover.

I don't necessarily agree with the whole list but I can respect it. This is far better than other list we've seen in the past. Ice Cube and Thought should be in the top 10. NO WAY, Melle Mel should rank number 11.

Respect Melle Mel.....these lyrics are damn near 30 years old and are still relevant.

royce wrote "The message" for sure on chronic 2001

i always get threats for this comment but i'm REALLY TIRED of the whole "Rakim is God" thing. when he first came out he was ahead of his time but now his shit is mediocre AT BEST.....but even then i always thought Kane was a better lyricist. even he believes he's "the God MC". the album he was supposed to release w/ Dre was supposed to be called 'Oh My God'......& the album before that was called 'The Master' & that shit SUCKED. i've yet to actually listen to the '7th Seal' album.
this whole list sucks though.

whoa u buggin dude. I'm not even from that era, but Master and 7th Seal were both solid albums. Slick Rick, Papoose, Immortal Technique, Saigon, Sean price and AZ all absent from this list.

This shit should be top lyrical Source contributors, or covers or some shit. Where is Rah Digga? Jean Grae?

fnck The Sauce

Scarface 16? :smh:

Out of the people who go on the all time greats list he's probably the most underrated.
jay-z wrote that shit

Jay-Z ghostwrote Still D.R.E. not Forgot About Dre.

How did Lil Kim make this list when she doesn't write her own shit? Wayne is nice at times but too much of his shit is just nonsensical ramblings. Some of the inclusions are :smh:

The 18th Letter was a descent album but he hasn't dropped a classic since he split w/ Eric B. i liked 18th Letter but The Master's ONLY good track was the track he had the video for which was "When I B On the Mic" produced by Preemo. i grabbed the 7th Seal immediately & i really tried to listen to it but it just wasn't grabbing me.
& yeah Sean Price needs to be on there along w/ Joe Budden, Elzhi, Masta Ace, Ras Kass.....i KNOW i can think of more but i'm watching this Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy so i'm distracted . the list is basically fullof ppl who are SUPPOSED to be on the list on some "just because" shit.

edit: also the order is REAL fucked up. Lil Wayne shouldn't be on here at all but c'mon, he's better than Royce??? GTFOH!!!!

Dunno about the rest of the list....

But Rakim is #1. And deservedly so.

NO ONE... Absolutely NO ONE...
Would rhyme the way they do nowadays, if not for him. (and others on the list)

Here's just ONE reason WHY...
Think about this...

1) First ask yourself... how does an emcee earn 'street cred' without bragging about bussing shots, or drug dealing in his lyrics??

Rakim gets mad respect & props... more than almost every other rapper... EVER in the game.
Even from the most grimy thugs, to ex-convicts, to academic scholars, to regular joe's.

2) After you have asked yourself that question above, just read the lyrics alone, from his songs off:

- Paid in Full (1987)
- Follow the Leader (1988)
- Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em (1990)
- Don't Sweat the Technique (1992)

3) You will notice: Rakim barely ever cussed, nor spit any 'wild gunplay' bars.

And 25 years later.... nobody else gets that kind of respect from 'the streets' WITHOUT wild cussing, gunplay & drug dealing in their lyrics.

4) Now Re-Read the question above, in #1 again.

WHO ELSE can say that after 25 years? NOBODY.
That's why he still remains #1.

He's like the Jackie Robinson of the rap game.
He changed the game FOREVER. Like no one else.
