Sinema Says She Will Not Support Changing Filibuster

Senator Kyrsten Sinema’s comments came after the House approved a set of voting rights measures on a party-line vote of 220 to 203.

Listening to the news this morning.

It came out that after her Senate speech, Biden was at Capitol Hill to speak with Democrats.

She was seen in the room not paying attention and fucking around on her phone the whole time.

By the way, this thread proves that the BLUE hat MAGAs are cowards. Can’t even hold their own party accountable after all the shit bitches like @voyeur / @veritech talked because he got his LGBT laws passed :smh:

Of course that racoon-looking bitch won't support it.
The best statement in regards to her argument. I set the vid and the transcript to that response.

  • Judy Woodruff:
Well, that brings up what Sinema had to say, Senator Kyrsten Sinema. Jonathan, in her speech on the Senate floor this week, where they need — they need her, they need Senator Manchin to go along with any change in the Senate rules, in the filibuster.
But she essentially argued that it's more important to work on partisanship than it is to do something about voting rights.
  • Jonathan Capehart:
    Sure.
And her speech could have been delivered from fantasyland, this idea that the Republicans who sit there now have any interest in working with Democrats on this issue in particular.
In 2006, the Voting Rights Act was reauthorized unanimously in the Senate. Republican President George W. Bush had a South Lawn signing ceremony with Reverend Al Sharpton sitting in the front row. That was when voting rights was bipartisan. All the Republicans in the Senate voted for it. As the president pointed out in his speech in Atlanta, 16 of those senators still serve.
And yet 16 of those senators won't even vote to allow those two voting rights bills to even be debated. They don't have to vote for them, but why shouldn't they debate them? Why shouldn't the American people at least get to hear what's in those bills, what's wrong with those bills, where could there be areas of compromise?
And when it comes to Senator Manchin, at least he worked with Republicans. They had three bites at the apple on the Freedom to Vote Act. And Senator Manchin gave Republicans, after talking to them, many of the things that they wanted, including voter I.D. And yet no Republican voted to allow that bill to even be debated.
So, for Senator Sinema to say, look, we have to work with Republicans, and I will only do this if there's bipartisanship, well, where's it going to come from, because it's not it's happening now?
  • Judy Woodruff:
    David?
  • David Brooks:
Yes, well, I mean, her argument is not an implausible argument. And it's not really about these two particular pieces of legislation.
Her argument is that if the — if we change the filibuster rules, and the majority party basically gets to control the Senate, and never has to work with the minority party, that would be bad for the country and bad for the Senate, because you basically have sort of one-party rule.
And that's not an implausible argument. Whether she's right to not pursue a carve-out for voting rights, I think that's a mistake. I wish they — she would do a carve-out just for voting rights to get this issue off the table.
But her defense of the filibuster is the traditional defense of the filibuster. And, in my view, having covered this issue for a long time, in my view, almost every effort to reduce the filibuster over the course, whether on judges or anything else, has had long-term negative effects.
So I wish we had had a carve-out, but then kept the filibuster. But now we're seemingly getting nothing.
  • Judy Woodruff:
Jonathan, do you want to — do you want to…
  • Jonathan Capehart:
    Yes, real quickly.
All anyone right now is asking for is a carve-out for voting rights. And for Senator Sinema to go to the floor and say, no, I'm not for a carve-out for voting rights because of what it might do to the Senate as a body flies in the face of what she did earlier this month in terms of voting for a carve-out to raise the debt ceiling, which is something that needed to be done and absolutely had to be done.
So, why aren't voting rights considered to be something that absolutely has to be done, and it absolutely needs — there absolutely needs to be a carve-out in the filibuster to make it happen? That's my problem with Senator Sinema.

Who gives a shit who he was sitting next to? if you sit next to a racist at the Raiders game does that mean you are on his side?

Also, Manchin’s voting record has him ranked as LIBERAL, look it up.

This entire thread is full of excuses for the National Level Democrats. :smh:

The GOP loves Senator Krysten Sinema.

It’s interesting how the Democrats don’t put her ass on blast for claiming she is Bi-Sexual.

The GOP is against the LGBT community.

Lots of folks have forgotten about her coming out.

Kyrsten Sinema makes history as first bisexual member of U.S. Senate

The newly elected senator will also become Arizona's first-ever female senator and its first Democratic senator since 1995.

How the White House lost Joe Manchin, and its plan to transform America

A breakthrough seemed close. It was mid-December, and President Biden had been negotiating for months with Sen. Joseph Manchin III over Biden’s sweeping plan to reconfigure the American economy. House Democrats had already approved $2 trillion for Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda, and pressure was mounting to push the measure through the more narrowly divided Senate.

But first Biden had to overcome resistance from Manchin (D-W.Va.), the Senate’s most conservative Democrat.

A bipartisan group of senators announces a deal for school safety and gun measures

A bipartisan group of Senate negotiators say they have reached a deal on a package of safety and gun-related measures narrowly focused on preventing future shootings similar to the one in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and two teachers were killed in their school.

I was listening to the Thom Hartman show earlier today on SiriusXm.

He had Senator Bernie Sander’s on and Bernie gave a heads up on a new bill getting ready to drop next week for vote before Congress takes its summer recess.

It’s a bill for funding of semiconductor manufacturing in the US. They want these US companies to manufacture those electronics on US soil with American labor

Bernie gave a heads up that the bill is “No Strings Attached”. Which means it’s free money with no direct instructions on how to spend it.

It’s basically a similar bill to the 2008 TARP bailout pushed by the Bush administration. That was the money given to the banks to alleviate the mortgage crisis. It later came out the banks took the money and gave themselves bonus’. They weren’t required to pay any of it back.

The same with this bill. The hope is they will open plants in the US, create good paying jobs for Americans and having it so the US does not have to rely on foreign nations, which is a national security issue….if you been around long enough….then you know what’s gonna happen.

Bernie said he is not voting on it.

If it pass’, expect Biden, Schumer and top Democrats bragging about this is great for America, American workers and the economy. And the news media will push the narrative.

Keep your eye out next week.

Senate could proceed on slimmer, chip-focused China competitiveness bill next week

The U.S. Senate could begin work on a pared-down China competitiveness bill as soon as next week, with the goal of passing it through Congress before lawmakers depart Washington in August, NBC News reported Thursday.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has told senators that a floor vote could come as early as Tuesday to kick off the legislation-writing process on a bill that includes billions in funding for semiconductor manufacturing, a source told NBC.

Gayle Manchin nominated to be federal co-chair of Appalachian Regional Commission

Gayle Manchin, an educator and wife of Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, has been nominated to serve as the federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission, the White House said in a news release Friday.

Is it time for Democrats to kick Joe Manchin out of the party?

On Friday, after putting a final spear through the heart of what remained of Biden’s and the Democrat’s domestic agenda, West Virginia’s Democratic Senator Joe Manchin also rejected any tax increases on big corporations or the wealthy — until inflation is no longer a problem.

This is rich, in every sense of the word. Raising taxes on big American corporations and the wealthy would not fuel inflation. It would slow inflation by reducing demand — and do it in a way that wouldn’t hurt lower-income Americans (such as those living in, say, West Virginia).

Manchin’s state is one of the poorest in America. West Virginia ranks 45th in education, 47th in health care, 48th in overall prosperity, and 50th in infrastructure. Tax revenue from corporations and billionaires could be used to rebuild West Virginia, among other places that need investment around America.

But Manchin doesn’t seem to give a cluck. After all, the Democrat’s agenda — which Manchin just obliterated — included pre-K education, free community college, child subsidies, Medicare dental and vision benefits, paid family leave, elder care, and much else — all of enormous value to West Virginia. (On a per-person basis, West Virginians would have benefitted more than the residents of all but two other states.)
