Sinema says she will 'move forward' on economic bill, putting Biden's agenda on the cusp of Senate approval

Washington(CNN)Sen. Kyrsten Sinema on Thursday night offered critical support for President Joe Biden's domestic agenda after party leaders agreed to change new tax proposals at her request, indicating she would "move forward" on Democrats' sweeping economic package that has been the product of intensive negotiations for more than a year.

Sinema's support means Democrats likely will have 50 votes in their caucus to push the bill through their chamber by week's end, before it moves to the House next week for final approval.

I was listening to the Thom Hartman show earlier today on SiriusXm.

He had Senator Bernie Sander’s on and Bernie gave a heads up on a new bill getting ready to drop next week for vote before Congress takes its summer recess.

It’s a bill for funding of semiconductor manufacturing in the US. They want these US companies to manufacture those electronics on US soil with American labor

Bernie gave a heads up that the bill is “No Strings Attached”. Which means it’s free money with no direct instructions on how to spend it.

It’s basically a similar bill to the 2008 TARP bailout pushed by the Bush administration. That was the money given to the banks to alleviate the mortgage crisis. It later came out the banks took the money and gave themselves bonus’. They weren’t required to pay any of it back.

The same with this bill. The hope is they will open plants in the US, create good paying jobs for Americans and having it so the US does not have to rely on foreign nations, which is a national security issue….if you been around long enough….then you know what’s gonna happen.

Bernie said he is not voting on it.

If it pass’, expect Biden, Schumer and top Democrats bragging about this is great for America, American workers and the economy. And the news media will push the narrative.

Keep your eye out next week.

Senate could proceed on slimmer, chip-focused China competitiveness bill next week

The U.S. Senate could begin work on a pared-down China competitiveness bill as soon as next week, with the goal of passing it through Congress before lawmakers depart Washington in August, NBC News reported Thursday.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has told senators that a floor vote could come as early as Tuesday to kick off the legislation-writing process on a bill that includes billions in funding for semiconductor manufacturing, a source told NBC.

@COINTELPRO already called out that sham of taking money and building shell factories and manufacturing plants for tax breaks.

Lindsey Graham says same-sex marriage should be left to the states but pivots from question on interracial marriage

Sen. Lindsey Graham reiterated his stance that same-sex marriage should be a state-by-state issue but dodged a question on whether or not he feels the same way about interracial marriage.

The South Carolina Republican was asked on Sunday by CNN "State of the Union" host Dana Bash whether or not he thinks Obergefell — the 2015 Supreme Court decision that established the right to same-sex marriage — should be overturned.

"No. I'm saying that I don't think it's going to be overturned," he began. "The point I'm trying to make is — I've been consistent — I think states should decide the issue of marriage and I think states should decide the issue of abortion."

Graham explained he trusts South Carolina voters, rather than the high court, to make those decisions via their elected representatives.

Bash asked how many other issues that logic would apply to and asked specifically about Loving v. Virginia, the 1967 decision that protected the right to interracial marriage.

Graham interjected: "No. No. Here's the point. We are talking about things that are not happening because you don't want to talk about inflation. You don't want to talk about crime. This is all politics my friends. Instead of trying to solve problems like unstable people having guns, we're talking about constitutional decisions that are still in effect."

"But if you're going to ask me to have the federal government take over defining marriage, I'm going to say 'no,'" he said.

sooooo lets get this straight... conservative republicans believe that the federal govt should NOT define marriage the states should along with abortion (thats TWO things the states alone should be determining) Which means the states can BAN things if they so chose..like Indiana just did with abortion. So if marriage can only be defined by the state and Indiana already chose to ban abortion whats to stop them from not recognizing gay marriage in their state...or interracial marriage??? and what else after that??? You all saw how fast red states organized on banning CRT

States That Have Banned Critical Race Theory 2022
States with Bans Against Critical Race Theory
The following states have banned critical race therory: Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. These states represent only the tip of the iceberg, however. These only represent a moving target as there are a myriad of other state jurisdictions looking to end the practice of teaching critical race tenets.
States that currently have bills moving through the state legislature, or are emplacing school policies to forbid the teaching of Critical Race Theory include: Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. A quick perusal of this second listing reveals several unexpected geographic concentrations.

While the states comprising the old Confederacy are widely represented in the number of anti-CRT bills and measures being put forth in legislative chambers, a surprising number of states representing a large swath of the Midwest have also given the nod to restricting how race is taught in their state school curriculums.

Opposition to Banning Critical Race Theory
In each of these states looking to eliminate or reduce the level of Critical Race Theory-based instruction, there is a vocal opposition to the move with two states, Arizona and Mississippi, have defeated attempted CRT bans. That being said however, supporters of the failed legislation have vowed to reintroduce those measures in future legislative sessions. Indeed, to date, only Delaware has passed legislation to positively affirm the goals and intentions of teaching about racism, and the deleterious affect that that has had on generations of minorities of Black Americans in the United States.

Senate passes Democrats' sweeping health care and climate bill

The Senate on Sunday afternoon passed Democrats' $750 billion health care, tax and climate bill, in a significant victory for President Joe Biden and his party.

The final, party-line vote was 51-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the tie. The package is the product of painstaking negotiations, and its final passage would give Democrats a chance to achieve major policy objectives ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

The Democrat-controlled House, which is expected to take up the legislation on Friday, August 12, must approve the bill before Biden can sign it into law.

I shut down this shell company scam which affected draft legislation on EV tax credits, I know a couple of states are getting these massive factories with a few good paying jobs. They talk about capital investment instead of jobs, we are spending $100 billion to buy a machine made in Europe.

:lol::lol::lol:

Intel is really a joint venture with this company.

The advanced lithography is still being done in Europe which is no big deal (EU market buys Intel products). The idea of this legislation was to make the United States independent which is not the case.

Free Lunch Program Is Ending, Leaving Families Scrambling

More than 26 million free meals were served to students every day because of a federal free school lunch for all program that started during the pandemic.

Now, that program is ending and families must apply for meal coverage, but only certain incomes meet the requirements.

NBC News’ Emilie Ikeda spoke with families directly impacted and looks at how one school district is trying to meet the need.

Senate GOP fears another Trump disaster in Georgia runoff

BY ALEXANDER BOLTON

Senate Republicans are worried that former President Trump may derail their chances of winning the runoff election in Georgia next month if he announces his 2024 presidential campaign in the next few weeks, and again thrusts his unsubstantiated claims of widespread election fraud into the spotlight.

Trump’s critics in the GOP establishment are blaming him for their disappointing performance in Tuesday’s election, in which Republican candidates lost key races across the country and Republican turnout fell short of expectations.

Republican strategists worry that if the Dec. 6 Georgia runoff between Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) and GOP candidate Herschel Walker turns into a referendum on Trump, it will likely result in a loss that could cost them control of the Senate.

“Hopefully Trump will stay out of the race as much as he possibly can and if that means holding off announcing his campaign for the White House, that would be a smart move not just for Republicans’ chances in Georgia but Trump’s hopes to win the nomination for president,” said one GOP aide, who requested anonymity to discuss concerns about Trump’s impact on the Georgia race.

“If you talk to Georgia election strategists, they believe Trump was a huge drag on Walker in suburban Atlanta and there’s just no reason to risk repeating that,” the source said. “If Trump injects himself into the race somehow and Walker comes up short, that’s really bad for Trump too.”

Senate Republicans fear a reprise of the two Senate runoff elections they lost in Georgia last year, which cost Sens. David Perdue (R-Ga.) and Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) their seats and flipped control of the Senate to Democrats.

Then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pressed White House chief of staff Mark Meadows before the January 2021 runoff elections in Georgia to rein in Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud in Georgia.

Trump, however, ignored the entreaties and campaigned in Georgia the day before voters went to the polls. He claimed during an hour-and-20-minute rally that “there’s no way we lost Georgia” to Joe Biden and declared the election was “rigged.”

Perdue wound up receiving 215,000 fewer votes in the runoff election compared to what he won in the general election two months before, while his rival, Democrat Jon Ossoff, saw a drop-off of less than half that at 104,000 votes.

A Senate Republican aide warned that Trump could crush Republican hopes of winning back the Senate majority if he makes the Georgia runoff all about advancing his own presidential ambitions.

“I think it’s still possible that we win Nevada and then it all comes down to Georgia,” said a Senate Republican aide. “I think that we can win Georgia if Trump doesn’t tell people not to vote.

“But if he’s going to come out in five days and announce his presidential run, that’s not going to be great for us,” the aide added. “He doesn’t know how to do anything other than make things about him.”

Retiring Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) on Thursday said Trump hurt Republican chances of winning the Pennsylvania Senate race by inserting himself into the contest between Mehmet Oz and John Fetterman.

“President Trump had to insert himself and that changed the nature of the race and that created just too much of an obstacle,” Toomey said on CNN.

Trump held a rally for Oz and gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano in Latrobe, Pa., a few days before Election Day.

“And by the way, it’s not just Pennsylvania. You look all over the country, there’s a very high correlation between MAGA candidates and big losses, or at least dramatically underperforming,” Toomey added, referring to Trump’s slogan, Make America Great Again.

The message appears to be getting through to Trump’s circle of advisers.

Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Trump, told Newsmax in an interview that he’s encouraging Trump to hold off on his presidential campaign announcement until after the Georgia runoff.

“Of course, President Trump had said he’d be making an announcement on Nov. 15, next Tuesday. I’m advising the president to hold off until after the Georgia race,” he said.

“Priorities A, B and C need to be about Herschel right now,” he added. “This is bigger than anything else in the country. We’ve got to show the focus is on Georgia.”

Trump on Monday announced that he would make “a big announcement” on Nov. 15 at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.

Senate Republicans are bracing for the possibility that it could be a presidential campaign kickoff speech.

As things now stand, Republicans will control at least 49 Senate seats next year, which means they need to win two of the three unresolved races in Arizona, Georgia and Nevada to control the majority in 2023.

Republican candidate Adam Laxalt is leading Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D) by roughly 35,000 votes with approximately 83 percent of ballots counted.

Sen. Mark Kelly (D) is leading Republican Blake Masters by nearly 100,000 votes with about 70 percent of ballots cast.

If Laxalt and Kelly hang onto their leads and the parties split those two states, then the runoff in Georgia will decide control of the Senate.

Former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) on Wednesday urged Trump to be careful not to disrupt Republican prospects of winning the Georgia runoff.

Lott told SiriusXM host Steve Scully in an interview that Trump “could” have a negative impact on the race and said he believed he hurt Perdue and Loeffler last year.

“It did last time. When President Trump went in there I got the impression it depressed the vote on the Republican side and we lost both senators,” he said. “That cost us the majority in the Senate.

“We’re going to have to be careful about what we do and I would hope that former President Trump would be careful about what he does there,” he added.

Trump continues to push his claims that the 2020 election was stolen and has demanded that the candidates he supports embrace his views, though he has failed to back them up with evidence.

Trump on Thursday wrote on his Truth Social social media platform that Oz made a “mistake” in the Pennsylvania Senate race by not supporting his claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

On Wednesday, he said that retired Army Gen. Don Bolduc lost the New Hampshire Senate race to Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) because he backed away from his previous assertion that the 2020 election had been stolen.

“Don Bolduc was a very nice guy, but he lost tonight when he disavowed, after his big primary win, his long-standing stance on Election Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Primary,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Is that Governor Kemp next to the Illinois Gov?

They are quiet as a Mouse on Senator McConnell and this concussion shit.

No new word on anything with a update on his status since he went in last Thursday.

Normally, high profile folks will release a statement along with pictures/vid of them in the hospital letting the public know they alive, even if they are in their pajamas the way President Reagan did when he recovered from his assassination attempt.

Nothing with McConnell.

Is he in a coma?

Is he alive or dead?

GOP Leader McConnell remains in hospital after concussion

Kentucky has already made a succession plan circumventing the Governor. They were originally intending to install his Boy the AG i think.

Kentucky can do what they want, whoever they pick won’t automatically become Senate Minority Leader.

There is a list of lunatics in the Senate under McConnell salivating and praying he drops dead so they can get that position.

Once McConnell croaks, good chance all hell is gonna break loose with them GOP nutjobs fighting to be Senate Minority leader.

We will wait and see…

Also, when McConnell drops dead.

It will put Senators Manchin and Sinema on the spot. They gonna have to decide whose side they gonna be on.

They been getting their orders directly from McConnell who is a “Reagan Conservative”.

The nutjobs looking to get the spot of Minority Leader are MAGA, Freedom Caucus folks who are extreme right.

Things will get interesting

We finally got a half-ass update.

Mitch McConnell Is 'Doing Well' and 'Eager' to Leave the Hospital After Concussion, Advisor Says

The 81-year-old Republican "tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner" and had “been admitted to the hospital” in order to receive treatment, his office said earlier this week

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is "doing well" after being hospitalized following a fall at a dinner event on Wednesday, the senator's longtime political adviser, Josh Holmes, said.

Holmes told NBC News on Friday that he had been at the hospital with McConnell "the last two days" and the senator, 81, had been walking around, asking staff questions and was "eager" to leave and return to work.

Representatives for McConnell did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

McConnell "tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner" and had "been admitted to the hospital" in order to receive treatment," a representative for the Republican told PEOPLE in a prior statement.

CNN reported that McConnell tripped while he was at the Waldorf Astoria hotel on Wednesday, citing a source familiar with the incident.

A later statement from McConnell's communications director revealed that he got a concussion from the fall and was expected to remain in the hospital "for a few days of observation and treatment."

After the incident, a group of other politicians sent well-wishes to McConnell for a "speedy recovery," including Texas senator John Cornyn.

"Sandy and I are praying for Leader McConnell's speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in the Capitol soon," he tweeted.

"My wife Cynthia and I are praying for leaderMcConnell's swift recovery," fellow Kentucky politician and GOP Representative Hal Rogers said. "As our Republican Leader in the Senate, we know that he is a tough and resilient fighter. On behalf of the Kentucky Delegation, I offer our support and prayers."

McConnell's incident this week is the latest in a series of health troubles the Senate's longest-serving GOP leader has suffered in recent years.

McConnell, who has been elected to lead the Republican conference nine times since 2006, fractured a shoulder after falling at home in 2019. A year later, he was photographed with dark bruises and bandages on his hands, though he later waved off any concerns regarding his health.

If old, decrepit Ass Sen. Chuck Grassley had one foot in the grave, McConnell would order his resignation by COB today.

Soon after McConnell would call Iowa Governor and order him a replacement at the minimum age of 30.

And whoever he picks, when McConnell says “Jump”, that new Senator first answer will be “How High”.

End of story.

With the Democratic Party, as usual they gotta make shit complicated.

Republicans start to line up against replacing Feinstein on critical committee

It would take at least 10 GOP votes to let Democrats replace the ailing Californian on the pivotal Judiciary panel — a mark that’s increasingly out of reach.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein rejected any talk of resigning in a statement last week.

I remember when the GOP was wheeling around Sen. Strom Thurmond. Dude was a damn corpse with them doing the “Weekend in Bernie’s” with him.

He couldn’t even cast his vote, he would whisper it to an aid and they would push the button for him. McConnell wasn’t the Senate leader then and I know he wasn’t happy seeing that shit.

I think Schumer yielded because its one of the ways Fetterman connected with his constituents, and they desperately need him re-elected.

If Fetterman has to wear those hoodies, then fine.
Make them dark black or something like that.
But you have to draw the line with the shorts and gym shoes.
I disagree with the Schumer move.
Should be some conditions for ALL Senators. i dunno.

What kind of mental condition that you have.
When you HAVE to wear shorts and gym shoes.
I mean let him have the hoodie, but its' too much.
