Good points. George Will is calling it an Obama win, because Obama tied McCain. George said that most political observers expected McCain to destroy Obama in this particular debate, and that McCain needed to show Obama didn't belong on the same stage with him (that's what all the "Senator Obama clearly doesn't understand..." bullshit McCain was spittin' was all about). Instead, Obama stood toe-to-toe with McCain without making any major gaffs or stumbles. Obama clearly showed that he could hold his own against McCain and that's all he needed to do. George used the baseball analogy of "tie goes to the runner." Since Obama only needed a tie to win, he won.

I have to agree with you. Obama should have merked McCain tonight. People are really pissed off at the Republicans and Obama had a chance to make McCain look like a old confused man.

I respect people who know how to maneuver in a clever manner without sacrificing their principles. The man has had the wherewithal to make it this far...underestimating his strategy, which has worked thus far, makes no sense at this point.

All Obama needed to do was neutralize McCains strong point: National and Foreign Security which he was supposed to run away with tonight. He [McCain] failed at making a clear distinction that he's the best one to trust. Each base agrees with their candidate. You can't judge the performance by that. Independents have been responding well with Obama.

Fuck the spin machine.

If the bank failure and wallstreet "clusterfuck" hadn't happen this week, I'd agree with you. Americans are idiots when it comes to politics. However, with the economy so clearly in the shitter, I think independents and those blue collar workers might pay a little bit more attention to the substance. I think to those people who might even lean McCain, they are sitting at home going "okay, but what about the substance?" This economy shit I believe (I hope) has made people become more aware that the issues matter.

I think Obama came out on top from this debate. I wish he would've stuck McCorpse's ass on a couple points, but I guess he let it go to stay tactful. Did anyone else notice how Obama spoke directly to Mccain the whole damn time and the ol coot couldn't look him in the eye once?
 
I believe Obama just ripped that ass. I would be surprised if he doesn't get a nice bump in the following polls.

I know some of you disagree, and think he should have dug in that ass. I disagree. He appeared to be the calm, cool, diplomatic candidate who will convincingly argue that he can work together in a bipartisan manner to solve our biggest issues.

He didn't back down, he didn't give anything up, he was decisive, competent. That's the type of president people are looking for now. Someone who will have the balls to agree on points, but still disagree on the bigger issue.

Plus, McCain is waning right now. He picked a horrible running mate, he continues to use talking points instead of answering the questions. Obama ripped him repeatedly on Kissinger stating that he thinks the next president needs to meet with Middle East leaders without preconditions (it seems that McCain didn't know the stance of his own advisor).

Over and over, Obama made the point that McCain has been wrong and will not admit it. That will resonate with the independents who just want a president who will do whatever it takes to solve the major issues.

Yeah, he didn't go for the jugular... but he doesn't have to at this point. He's smarter than that, the media is ripping McCain and Palin, he doesn't need to. It will make it easier for him to work together across party lines once he's president. Eventually he will drive that point home once it's too late for McCain to make the same claim after his and Palin's divisive campaigning.

Just because we the people want to see Obama 'dig in that ass' doesn't mean that it would be a politically sound move for a black man. If this was a level playing field, I would be all over the "CUT THIS CRYPT KEEPER SHIT STAIN LOOKIN' BITCH!!!!!!" argument, but it just can't happen yet.

If it was Al Gore or John Kerry, all of these arguments would be more than valid. However, Obama can not afford to be seen as the angry black man.

I definitely think Obama won the debate. McCain had his moments sticking to the experience vs inexperience talking points but he never talked about the future with any clarity. Sometimes he didn't even answer the question asked. I thought Obama countered him beautifully all night. he had a couple of stumbles, the worst of which I thought was on the Russia issue where he rambled into talk about sources of alternative energy but Obama talked more about specifics of where the country is going and what we have to do in the future. McCain talked to his base. Obama spoke to everyone. Nothing wrong with Obama saying "John is right" or "I agree" if you listen to the context in which he said it. he wasn't talking about policy issues. he CLEARLY stated his differences on positions there. Obama was showing an air of flexibility and good sense and I don't think it hurt him at all. the first half of the debate Obama was spanking him pretty bad. McCain did well on "knowledge" of foreign policy and trying to point out Obama's lack of it but Obama looked like a decisive leader throughout. he hammered home the lack of credible judgement. Great performance IMO.

Actually I believe that Obama knew where the power structure was for him to gain political leverage over his constituents in Chicago. Guess what...you go to the church where all the 'believers' are at.

So to answer your question, he would have attended ANY church where the black vote was at.
