Yeah can't suspend Kobe for that. The played was called incorrectly on the floor. Kobe should have been accessed the foul. The refs made a bad call that completely changed the game. However, you don't compound it by tossing Kobe. Kobe should be on a short leash though... he hit Battier with the knee and an elbow and now he threw and elbow at Artest's throat... anything like that again and he should get tossed.

Yeah the one he did on Battier wasn't necessary. But the one on Ron, it wasn't intentional. He wasn't planning to take Ron out. Shit like that happens all the time, especially in real physical games such as the one last night. I'd be shocked if he got suspended because it wasn't in spite.

Yeah..physical play in the post. I'm from Detroit and grew up on the Bad Boys so you know I'm not going to complain about a nice elbow here and there...shit my pistons wouldn't have made it out of the first quarter if you tossed players for that..but the rules have changed drastically since then.

The rules call for automatic suspension (I think) when the hit is a head-blow (or could just be above the shoulder..correct me if I'm wrong somebody) so the Kobe blow probably doesn't qualify.

The only fuck-ups were the missed calls on the floor and tossing Artest...

You can't just give the Rockets the game by tossing Kobe for game 3 unless is was clearly intentional and he landed to th head.

However, considering how Artest was tossed incorrectly and how Ming was effectively made a non-factor by the refs.... I expect the Lakers, this next game, to get the short end of the stick from the refs to "make up" for the horrible officiating in game 2.. plus the Rockets will be at home, AND they are going to he hyped as hell... Rockets COULD potentially jump out on the Lakers early and blow this out... I wouldn't be surprised....

I feel you. I'd be surprised if Lakers can win Game 4 unscathed and without any ref biases. There's always gonna be "homecooking" but during the Playoffs it can turn into some crazy one-sided shit.

Re: Roccet's Thread

Kobe left the game up by 14, when he re enteres, the lead is 7. The only 2 players to come off the bench were walton and jordan in qt 1. After they entered the game, kobe went for 1 for 3. Lakers were up by 13 when Luke and Jordan entered. Powell came in with about 30 seconds left in the 1st qt. Luke also hits 2 free throws. So how were Sasha, Brown, Bynum and Powell cold "because of a single player monopolizing the ball in q1" when they werent in the game in q1?

what an odd way to frame a question. did you completely forget about all of these players who missed FGAs while the lead evaporated AND had been on the floor with tobe?

lamar odom
jordan farmar
trevor ariza
luke walton (BTW, how many FGAs did tobe miss between luke walton attempts?)

Actually, the lead dissappeared with 3:57 left.

you are correct. 3:57 is when ron artest hit the shot. the time i referred to is when the action broke for a time out.

So whats the coincidence?

mine was a socratic question. there wasn't any coindence; there WAS a consequence. the fakers lead disappeared in Q2 because their best player, pau gasol, was (a) not in the game, and (b) once in the game did not get an FGA until only 2:45 was left until halftime.

yao ming out of the game at the 6:00 minute mark in Q2, but pau gasol gets his first FGA at 2:45?

nope, not a coincidence.

Roccet's Thread

The refs made a bad call that completely changed the game.

as poorly as the referees handled that sequence of events, the houston rockets hadn't played well at all in Q3. Q3 was worse basketball than Q1.

kyle lowery tried to do too much, played outside his boundaries, and was OC too often.

aaron brooks overdribbled, took some bad shots, and made some poor decisions. all things that PGs CAN NOT do.

luis scola was a nightmare. as much as he contributed in Q1, he hurt his team three times as much in Q3. i lost count during the series of horrible shots he attempted around the basket in Q3.

if the rockets played as poorly in Q4 as they did in Q3, losing ron artest wouldn't have made any difference.

if coach adelman can rein in his players and have them play within their limitations and intelligently, the rockets can win G3.

that's why the game is played.

nobody has a crystal ball and can predict for certain what will happen. remember how people thought orlando without dwight howard spelled a 76ers win?

it's a lot of emotion to cope with, and for the inexperienced players, pressure.

the sad thing about all that transpired is that basketball fans were robbed of almost an entire quarter of a game. three quarters of good competition, and a final quarter of garbage. the final seconds of Q3 and the events in Q4 marred fantastic performances by pau gasol and ron artest.

That's true. It wasn't like the Rockets were playing well. However, with Artest being the most effective and efficient player during that game, I thought that pretty much sealed the deal for the Rockets. They lost their best scorer that game and one of their best, if not, best one on one defenders. You are right though. It didn't change the trajectory of the game, but I think it definitely hurt their chances greatly..

basketball (and sports in general) can be like that sometimes. who knows what might've happened in Q4? we'll never know.

who thought the rockets would've even been in the game with yao ming saddled with foul trouble? but they were still in it.

nobody could've predicted that carl landry would've stepped up and had such big minutes.

i just hope they let the 2 teams play tonight.

Re: ***The Official Laker's vs Roccet's Thread

My biggest issue is how do we handle Andrew Bynum? I mean, Gasol is too valuable to sit, but Bynum need's those minutes to gain confidence in the skill he has. All the skill in the world doesn't matter if you don't have sufficient confidence in them.

Maybe the Lakers need to consider dealing one of the two after the season, because it's looking like Shaq and Elden Campbell all over again. Elden was a pretty good center, but with Shaq being such a force on the offensive end, Elden could never get comfortable in the offense.

Yeah. I hope the refs don't come out blowing their whistles on everything and the players become too tentative because of fear of racking up bullshit touch fouls. I'm hoping for an intense, close game...

true about Landry...yeah..you just never know..
