Theres this radio station in philly 107.9. Its at the end of the fm dial. It plays all the classic hip hop. When I got in the car they were playing dmx. I hopped they were playing ruff ryders anthem. Got back into the car they did money cash hoes, get at me dog, and a jay z track. I love this station.
I think Illmatic was finished around that age because I remember Nas saying he wrote NY State of Mind at 17 years old.
Niggas didn't think Illmatic was a classic though until years after that shit came out.Shit didn't go platinum until like a few years ago. Dudes tried to hate on that shit too. Its them old heads that don't want shit to change. People hated on Jeezy when Thug Motivation 101 came out. That cat goes to NY right now and perform ANY song from that album and they'll know all the words. But I remember when cats was saying he was trash.

I remember people claiming he was like 16 or 17 as well. I Was shocked to see he was 19 when it dropped because they use to always call him a child prodigy or some shit like that.
your bias is showing, that shit was a instant classic as soon as it dropped, you don't like NY, we get it. the south is winning now and dudes wanna come out and show how much they hated NY in the 90's cause we were on top

I scratched my head when I read that, too. Back in the day, all you had to do was get the word on the street as to how good an album was. But even a main stream magazine like The Source got it right.

that shit goes beyond music, all my cousins live in the south in various states, when i would visit them in the 90's i would get all the attention from the bitches in their hood, them niggaz secretly hated my guts too, Ny was winning back in the 90's beyond music. i was having 3somes in the south jus for being born in a specific place, every back int he day south dude knows a East coast nigga who use to come in and clean up in their hood, that hate you see now is not jus based of music
Y'all always say this shit man.Talking about taking our women from us in the south.
Man where I stayed at if you was from NY you was a outsider and chilled by yourself.

My momma put me onto Outkast. I was in 4th grade. She used to bump da fuck outta "Git Up, Git Out" in her jeep.Yup, I saw Playas ball on the box and was like damn these kids are mad nice.
Yeah that was going on too back in high school. When niggas was wearing them long as throwbacks and headbands and shit. Some dudes use to lie and say they was from NY and shit.
But this shit about dudes being from NY and coming down here and taking females? I never seen no shit like that.Thats wild.
Only reason I say something though because i've seen dudes post that shit on here numerous times.

Definitely agree with GOW.
I don't know what it was...but the rappers from the 1990s were just so much more precocious. Compared to today, 1990s rapmusic is grown-up music.
