The Music sucks to you because you're old!!!!

I fucks with backspin on satellite radio. Ed Lover is the host and now monie love is joining. Nothing but old school rap.

real talk tho if u seen it posted numerous times then you have to assume it has some validity, maybe not in your case but in general,we all cant be lying jus to lie. you're making it sound like i said niggaz from ny were gettin chased down like stars or some shit, all im saying is in my experience in various states in the south i was gettin a lot of pussy simply cause i was from Ny. when i would go to the club wit my cousins and ppls out there i would stand the fuck out and bitches were dropping panties on sight. i will admit that the NY shit holds no weight no more unless you go to another country but in that case you can be from anywhere in america and still have that same effect

I don't deny it might be true though. It didn't go down where I stayed but the fact that y'all keep saying it lends me to believe there's some truth to it. I don't know if it was you but some others have stated they came to the south and took all our women.

I wish Sirius had more talk radio on it. Backspin as well. Seems like they just come in talk a little bit and then leave.

I wish there was some hip hop stations that were like how Foxxhole use to be when Jamie would come in.

ive always gotten luv from the yella gal's in the south
"yea im from cali"

No, music sucks because it is stale and unimaginative, and the men don't even try to sound like men. Lil Wayne sounds like he forgot to pass puberty or has a frog in his throat, and raps over simple ass beats that some 4th grader thought up. When I grew up (graduated in 95) we rapped over old R&B beats, P Funk, and shit like that. I thought Master P and all of his crew were trash, and lil Wayne & juvenile.

Music today has nothing on rap from the 90's from a creative standpoint

It's not about being old although some will use that excuse it's about being open and educated. I have talked to several young people in their early 20s who agree that today's music is mostly crap. They aren't old geezers.

I noticed the difference though. The young people that cosigned my sentiments were smart educated and well read. They weren't your typical young dumb crowd following type of young people. My nephew was bumping the Isleys and other old school soul groups at 12 years old and he graduated in the class of 2000. Very smart educated and intelligent young dude from the STL who came up with Nelly and that whole era from STL.

I was the same way when I was 10 or 12 years old. My older brother put me up on different music styles and tastes that I wasn't used to or exposed to and older music. Peeps at school or my age maybe couldn't necessarily relate but my mind was open and I was an avid reader and learner at a young age.

Education intelligence and attitude makes a big difference when it comes to young people. The record labels and radio stations and corporations just mass market whatever trash that will make them a buck. That's what the whole Bobby Schmurda table dancing fiasco was about. Always been that way. Business as usual.

Ed Lover has his time slot and just recently moved to 6pm eastern and the ability to take calls from listeners. He is always interviewing an old school rapper, DJs and producers. My only beef with him is he plays too much beastie boys and Run DMC.

Rap sucks now cause these new ninjas suck. Was at my nephews 21st birthday party and the shit they were bumping was pathetic. Hooks like "I'm rich, I'm paid, you's a bitch go way"

Simple ass materialistic rhymes spoken with the voice of a man bitch.

Back in the day, you went from Cube, to Brand Nubian, to Scarface to EPMD, BDP, NWA etc.

All were distinct groups/artists who sounded nothing like the next one.

These new cats sound like they can't even spell the shit they are writing and it's basic shit.

Instead of the crap, why don't you dudes focus on the good music

Killer Mike and El P put out a dope album

Stalley, Logic, Vince Staples, Joe Budden, Krit, Ransom...have all put out projects recently

You muthafuckas would rather whine and live in the past getting your Al Bundy on though :dunno:

There was higher level of skill required in general back then.
Artists that had some consciousness in their lyrics got play too.
Now it's all about the beat, the bitches, and the club

Definitely agree with GOW.

I don't know what it was...but the rappers from the 1990s were just so much more precocious. Compared to today, 1990s rapmusic is grown-up music.

Bingo! That's the difference. Young kids in the 70s 80s and 90s respected the generation before them and were inspired by them. They learned from them. They made something new out of the old. And this is not just about sampling.

Prince was 17 when he made his first album.

Yeah see that's my problem. I hate 80's hip hop. I mean its cool in doses but man that shit gives me a headache especially Beastie Boys. I know they are considered some greats but naw they should really stick to mid to late 90's hip hop and up.

Talking about Nas like he was Made Men :smh:

I know you're trying to win an argument, but just admit what you said was wrong :smh:

So XXL didn't a few years back change their mic rating to XXL? I'm not shitting on Illmatic. I know its history and how its paved the way and raised the bar for a lot of albums that came after it.

But nobody was screaming instant classic except Source and when the Source did it others didn't agree with it. XXL themselves didn't even give it a classic rating but years later changes their rating?

Yeah I fuck with his shit and that's what i'd like to hear from some of these shows on Sirius. I got put on to him after that whole Dame Dash fiasco.

I agree but some of them legendary rappers from the 90's aren't making quality shit either. What's the last dope album you've heard from Method Man? Or the Wu? And Jay's my favorite rapper bar none but man some of them albums.....that Bluprint 3 wasn't SHIT. He and Kanye have lost themselves in music IMO.

there are plenty of creative/intelligent/conscious/innovative whatever mcs out there. just for whatever reason people are more concerned with pointing out rappers they think are wack

Yup.
I was one of them dudes till i made a conscious decision to seek out some of these new school cats.
I said one of these dudes got to be decent.
Thats how i came across curren$y and his crew, stalley, nipsey etc..

That's my thing. People keep talking about how wack the game is but i've heard more dope albums than wack albums this year. People are the ones filling their ears with that bullshit and are the first ones to cry about the current state of music.

I'm not a Logic fan but I been hearing people talk about his album being nice. But KRIT, Stalley and Vince dropped some great albums as well as that Run The Jewels album.

Who do you think these young kids learning from? They learning from the same people that was hot in the 90's and 2000's.

When dudes were making "radio friendly" singles.....that's what kids ate up and that's what you see from the game on a mainstream level. Nothing has changed but the age of the cats who grew up on 90's music.

There are some 15 year olds out there right now that will say Migos, Gucci, Boosie, etc. are the greatest shit they've every heard in their lives.

Real talk...the music is just bad
...

In 1984 a 20 something at time could fast forward to 1994 and still think the music was good while they were a 30 something.....

This shit now is just noise..

I still tease my little cousin for saying soulja boy is the best. Hes currently telling me meek fell off and its quilly turn to run the city. Kids.

As a kid I always loved nas. Was a big ll cool j fan. But dmx was my heart. The lyrics werent heavy but the energy was all I needed. I bought the I am album 3 times. I cherished my its dark and hell is hot. I came into rap with lil kim and within a couple months I was hooked.

because they reality is they are old or just like the whine or complain all the damn time

because they would know about the good artist or try and find or seek them out. With the internet it's not hard to find out about good rappers.

it's a lot of truth to what he's saying..everybody from ny kno that shit..some of the biggest lames from ny would go out of state and come back with ego's cause of the love they got from out of state..i'm talking dry dick nigs who was 17/18 yr old virgins in ny and than go out of state and all of a sudden be getting pussy..hell we use to call it "cheating" cause we was like u can't look at urself as a ladies man if u was dry in ny and now getting mad buns out of state..hell that's why a lot of cats moved out of ny cause they was lames in this city but all of a sudden treated like kings outside of it..them nigs would come back to ny and get no burn and than be on some fuck ny bitches they ain't shit blah blah..even ya sluts is next level compare to ny..like we got sluts but sluts out of state make u go goddamn bitch do u have at least an ounce of morals..damn can u say no to at least 1 thing:lol::lol::lol::lol:..hell that's why some ny cats go "scouting" out of state for chicks that mite wanna enter the game

i agree wit this and i live by this, my ipod is filled wit everything i wanna hear, but wit that said i wish i could avoid the mainstream trash that gets played, i find myself knowing the lyrics to songs i cant stand and saying to myself wtf is going on. last week i left my headphones in the crib on the way to the gym and decided to jus tough it out and leave them, man that was 90 mins of torture, i was was shooting for a 2hr workout but i felt my brain cells dying from that music :smh:

The biggest thing I saw was the other day I saw that Freddie Gibbs and Jim Jonesn story and dudes was talking about how Freddie was wack or they was like "Who?". How can you say shit is sack when you not even familiar with Freddie Gibbs? He's not a mainstream household name but if you not familiar with Freddie Gibbs you have a lot of music you missing out on from artists not even as popular as him.

 XXL wasn't even around in '94

You right. It was another magazine that later came along and did that. I stand corrected. XXL was the one who later gave it XXL but wasn't out when it first dropped.

I've heard these myths man.......where are you going? Is this in Atlanta? Where are ya'll going?

Yeah you right. I remember Chief Keef saying the Drill Music sound was inspired by No Limit. That's who they grew up on and admired. That's extremely limiting tho IMO. That keeps you in that bubble and perpetuates the cycle of mediocrity. No Limit was the first sign of decline to me when they came out back in the 90s AND blew up.

It was like I was standing there with my mouth open and shaking my head at the same time. Many people during conversations like these spot the rise of No Limit as the turning point for the slow decline in quality in the state of hip-hop. And that has nothing to do with any North South beef or being called a hater. The quality decline was glaringly apparent.

Once again intelligent and educated youth will buck the trends and go against the common grain. Chief Keef is a perfect example.

Good is subjective. The majority of these cats are awful. I remember when folks tried to put my unto kush and oj. I remember sitting in the car bored the fuck iut of my mind.

btw, how many of you actually buy music?

I like something...I still buy a physical copy(CD)

Did it for Stalley and Run The Jewelz 2

that was jus 1 or 2 dudes, the rest of the ppl in the thread including myself were calling them idiots and posting gibbs music, a lot of times ppl on bgol see 1 or 2 ppl post some bullshit then claim the bullshit is bgol logic when in reality jus 1dumb idiot logic

i buy on itunes but i only select the songs on the album i like, the ironic shit is the only time i buy a full album wit every song is when i want to get a old school classic like doggystyle or illmatic or 36 chambers, a lot of these new albums even by the artist i like have too many filler songs on them, jus add ons, i miss the days of a fire 10 song album

I thought it was more than that and I could've sworn it was but this whole thread is dedicated to how wack the game is. And what's the representation for it? Migos and Bobby Shmurda? That's crazy.

I saw that shit

Right. People hate/fear what they don't know or understand. Shit is crazy to me.

There's no excuses now though. Like the music game has changed so much that we're exposed to so much music DAILY. So much quality music daily to let radio dictate what's hot.

I understand. I fucked with No Limit. Still do this day. And No Limit had some quality rappers over there. Mystikal and Mac were nice. But you think them cats were influenced by Mystikal and Mac? They were influenced to the lifestyle and the hit songs that you heard on the radio. I see how these lil' dudes move. They acting like the same shit i've seen back when I was young and seeing how CM and No Limit was moving.

And you think dudes will shit on the No Limit era? For the music? No. And there was some quality music dropping in there too but as you can see that type of shit is more so to blame than these young cats just coming out of nowhere making music. They had to be influenced by someone. Pac as well. People want to bring up how conscious Pac was but the Pac you saw in the media and heard on the radio is not the conscious Pac.

btw, how many of you actually buy music?

I'm a victim of not giving new artists my money until I either see them on tour or hear some of their music. Like I bought Stalley's album because I knew what to expect. And i'll buy Krit's too.
