im gonna check it out and thank you for wanting to hear my response. i think the issue w/ these types of threads whether it be about men or women is that not a lot of people know how to have a discussion, especially one that can cause one to be introspective. people know how to offend, be defensive, have selective hearing, overgeneralize/ undergeneralize, aruge, bash but very few know how to discuss. yeah we are human and get bothered by what ppl say, or being misunderstood but a lot of ppl just fly off or completely shut down (see Star below's example of shutting down) instead of getting bothered and expressing why such statement caused such feeling and to do this in the form of a discussion

also, with these "social issue/problem" threads, a problem that i've had is the isolated whose to blame/ who has the problem/ what caused the problem approach which in my opinion...that is bullshit (not saying ur thread falls into this category). To me its a set up to make ppl who realize that its a multi-factored issue to look like they can't stay on topic or they are "avoiding" the truth.

but all in all, i really do hope that those who DO know how to have a discussion keep doing so and then hopefully those can catch on. I think the marriage thread that Lone is talking about had some good examples in there. Yes there were those "special" post but then you saw who kept the exchange going and how the discussion improved

Lone, I too have been VERY upset about some of the things posted but I had to put it in perspective of where I'm at, who is posting and their e-personalities. Once you put a realistic view on this, it should help you not get so upset.

It's all about perceptions and expectations, I'm not gonna really trip over a dude avoiding responsibility when his post history from what I have observed has reflected him being a lost individual, that would be me expecting too much for the person. Now, you do have those who appear to be of sound mind who make comments that make you go hmmm sometimes which is why I engage them in conversation and ask questions.

As far as you siding with them and trying to meet them halfway, I thought it was very interesting in that thread, I even chuckled cuz I wondered if you really had an epihanny, was it just to keep it moving or something else. If you met them halfway b/c you felt their points were valid then good, all the other nonsense you feel they are saying shouldn't matter. If you met them halfway to show that ur flexible, or to save face (not saying you did) or w/e then I would advise not doing that in the future. It's ok to agree to disagree.

You also have to understand your intentions in your posts: are you posting your opinion b/c you have one? to offfer a different one? or to try to change someone's mind? to win? <- if you are trying to change someone's mind or win, your setting yourself up for failure and anger. We (you, I and anyone else) have no control over anyone else but ourselves. Also, we all know, with some ppl you can't win. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

So a suggestion to avoid getting this bothered over bgol (and it's really not worth it) assess the climate of the thread, speak your piece and keep it moving.

Now if there is something about BGOL that is tapping a nerve w/ you b/c it's reflective of your "real" life, that's a whole different issue.

Get ya woosah on and laugh about it, it aint worth it.

They have an excuse for everything, and they hold no responsibility at all for any of their actions or what it effects afterward.
