THE EXPANSE: The Show You’ve Been Wanting Since Battlestar Galactica

Caught the pilot episode on Amazon prime video. I'm getting a Babylon 5 vibe from it except that the factions are all human instead of alien.

Production quality seems pretty high. The tech is somewhere between Interstellar and Dark Matter/Aliens level.

The books were pretty good for The Expanse, they should of made the pilot longer to properly set up all the scenes and characters.

Episode 3 and 4 are syfy.com and the syfy app and just like "the 100" the show really kicks it into gear episode 3 and episode 4 is on some live action mass effect like shit. I'm all in.

the two sistas on the show..

I'm still hanging in there, but I'm going to need some movement. It has way to many moving parts going on. I kind of wish it started with an episode that kind of explained this world.

This doesn't really get going until the 3rd episode.

I dozed off several times during the first 2.

I hear good things about The Magicians

I've had the first episode saved on the DVR. I'll give it try. I'm going to try to check out The Sharma Chronicles this weekend. Just to see how it is. There is too much shit on Tuesdays now and I'm trying to decide which show is going to get dropped from the DVR.

is there any streaming service that has battle star galactica? Netflix use to have it but I'd chop my mama's left titty just to watch the series over again

I like the show!

I wanna like the show, but I don't know what the fuck is going on.It seems all over the place to me.

The only storyline I can understand is Thomas Jane's storyline.Other than that I'm clueless

I don't know the history of the whole Earth/Mars stuff

Why dude got merked on episode 3 at the very end?

I'm not hating on the show,I just need to understand what's going on,maybe, you can help me,because I'm lost

I even tried going on it's wikipedia page and it only gives a very brief stuff for it....

Yeah that's my problem as well... I don't understand the history at all. It feels like it's leading somewhere but I can't really tell. It's got to many moving parts spread out all over the place and they don't seem all connected. They are slowly losing me from the momentum built up from episodes 3 and 4.

That's what I was saying, I read the books so I know the story but the show does not present the whole picture well enough and barely presents the main characters, you just see stuff happening and, try to decipher what's going on.

Here's a basic premise;

You have 3 main power:
Earth with their United Nations
Mars with their own War Fleet
And people living on various colonized rocks in the Asteroid Belt known as Belters.
There is also the OPA which means the Outer Planet Alliance which is a fringe (terrorist?) group trying to free themselves from Earth and Mars dependency.
Earth and Mars are always in a cold war type situation, using politics to avoid real conflicts.
The Belters depends on the UN and or Mars for most of their supplies including Air and Ice (water), they are basically colonies of either and the OPA would love to change that and be considered sovereign.

- So the show at the beginning features a detective tasked to find a missing rich UN girl rebelling against her parents in the belt region.
- Also there is part of the crew of an ice carrying ship who witnesses the destruction of another ship by unknown forces but by accusing Mars since that's who they saw in the area causes conflicts between Mars and Earth to escalate beyond cold politics.
- Also important is an under-secretary from Earth UN who actually holds much much power than her station would lead you to think.

The show will keep jumping between those 3 sets of main characters and how they will interconnect is how the story will be told and developed.

I hope this helps clearing up the confusing parts for you guys.

SOME MORE POINTS I SHOULD MENTION:

- Most of the workers, handyman, janitors, pretty much anybody who works physical jobs are OPA. They are like an union at that level.
- Everybody born in space or in colonies hate Earthers.
- Earthers will be represented as much shorter than everybody else because they were born under gravity.
- Havelock that cop who got well shanked I guess lol is an earther, so he is always in danger because of that natural hatred people feel for his kind.

Thanks...who is the dude from the wire?

Thanks...who is the dude from the wire?

He is the current leader of the OPA. Infamous for killing a bunch of defenseless miners when he used to a soldier in the Space Navy!

He runs a ship building station and he is under contract to build a huge generation ship for some Jehovah Witnesses Sorry Mormons I believe who want to travel to a planet of their own outside of the solar system. Humans have pretty much colonized their solar system from the Moon out.
They still have not traveled beyond that much.

Cool...thanks

Just saw ep. 6, things are getting a bit clearer now in the show but I still believe they should of explained things a bit better. BTW the cop Miller though a Belter is a wannabe Earther, you can tell by his hat and old earth style, he gets despised for that.

Business is about to pick up!

Wrong place at the wrong time, when those Belters are pissed Earthers will always be first target, then Martians, then Luna peeps and even non-OPA Belters.

I know for a fact this guy will be in at least one episode, he shows up in every scifi series
