THE CREATOR(2023) John David Washington

Many people have watched the Matrix (1999), however, I believe not many people can tell you how and why man came to be placed in the Matrix.

Probably cause people making a big deal out of the fact that they used footage from that storage building explosion in Beirut as background fx in a scene
More than likely it's because the modern day adult is a brainwashed consumer who only thirsts for comic book movies that go boom and movies about toys, they don't want any substance, ingenuity, or new ideas that would challenge their fragile little minds.
The modern adult only seeks to be reminded of memories from their childhood and that one movie that they watched with their parents. Nostalgia straight to their veins. A movie like Wings of desire couldn't be made today, the godfather couldn't make it into theaters and would likely be forgotten on Apple TV or some garbage streaming service. It's a sad state of things.

To quote Alan moore

“Hundreds of thousands of adults [are] lining up to see characters and situations that had been created to entertain the 12-year-old boys – and it was always boys – of 50 years ago,” he said. “I didn’t really think that superheroes were adult fare.”

He then went in to say

“I said round about 2011 that I thought that it had serious and worrying implications for the future if millions of adults were queueing up to see Batman movies,” he said. “Because that kind of infantilization—that urge towards simpler times, simpler realities—that can very often be a precursor to fascism.”

I agree with Alan moore lol

Naw, John David Washington is not a box office draw, and most people never heard of the director. They knew this movie wasn't going to do well which is why it came out at the end of September. At least it would have a chance with little to know competition.

BTW, I doubt most people even know about the Beirut footage.

Perhaps people are tired of spending a bunch of money on movies that may end up sucking, not to say this movie sucks.

We are at a point now where people rather watch unique projects in the comfort of their own home than spend a bunch of money on a film they know little about in the theater.

I would not be surprised if this movie does well on the home video market.

Christopher Nolan movies always do well. Hell a movie about Oppenheimer just did numbers. Because people know it will be a good product. Also, blame the studios - they're the ones pushing sequels and movies based off existing IP to maximize profits.

When taking a family of 4 to the movies costs well over $100, people are damned well going to be picky about what they see in the theaters.

The creator? That's directed by Gareth Edwards, who did monsters, Godzilla(2014) and the only good non George Lucas star wars movie Rogue One. So a much better director.

Gareth Evans did the raid
dont forget gangs of london

Very Creative

PRAISE: The Creator has a dash of Terminator 2 and Blade Runner but definitely has some unique and involving story threads. The story about ex-special forces agent Joshua who is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI.
The cast including John David Washington, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson all turn in very good performances.
There was a story thread that held my interest throughout the film and I was in high anticipation to how it was going to play out. It played out in a way that was unpredictable and definitely hit all the right emotional chords.
Technically the film is incredible. Director Gareth Edward's blends beautiful landscapes with nearly flawless SFX .
From the start the story began to stack the decks when it came to the characters and their involvement which ultimately lead to a satisfying ending with tons of raw emotion.

PROBLEMS: A couple of hollow moments in which the acting was vacant.
A character was definitely in one note mode. There were definitely some predictable moments. A couple of things I couldn't get on board with that included moments when things were too convenient or unconvenient just to draw things out or try to create suspense.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 7½
