THE CREATOR(2023) John David Washington

@playahaitian
look at this then look at that garbage micheal bay made

^^^^

look at the latest turtle movie which was actually darn good and flopped?

It's NOT as easy as regular folk think to be able to predict what an audience will support

Because they routinely say one thing and then move in a completely opposite direction.

Your 100% on visuals

And trust I'm a union guy and support the effects housing fully

The studios were abusing them

But the Creator made me really look sideways at all these budgets

ALL OF THEM.

And the overall quality.

Cause after the unions are settled?

What excuses are they going to have for bad effects?

Movie was meh. Great special effects, but the plot was lacking a bit.

And the whole love part btwn washington and his woman felt forced. It didn't seem real.

Real shit, the best part of the movie was the little girl robot. Everything else just felt repetitive, like we've seen in past Sci fi movies.

Hollywood is too busy tryna make profits and not investing in good movies. The writing, directing, and acting has been sub-par the last few yrs.

I dare say the UK is making better content than America atp. All the UK shows I watch are straight bangers (Luther, Peaky Blinders, Gangs of London, Top Boy, etc.)

the thing is either cgi guys are finesse the studios
but the studios still have to sign off so even if thats the reason its still weird
cuase half the movies i would never give the greenlight

but im thinking this is old skool Money laundering

to be fair these cgi guys were making easy money at one point
i remember seeing some videos were they were braggin
that they get paid big money for few hours of work

I almost feel like the movies are still in the COVID hangover period. A lot of people couldn't watch movies for 2 years in a cinema. I'm sure the movie will do well.
No it's tanking. It only made 14 million opening weekend. It got beat out by Saw X and Paw Patrol.

I was thinking about buying tickets on my off day this Thursday. All the theaters I checked are removing it from the primo theaters (Dolby Digital and IMAX).

Didn't expect that.

That ain't the case anymore. there's a ton of articles about CG artist being over-worked and under paid (especially with Marvel Movies). Maybe they snitched on themselves one too many times, cause that gravy train has long been derailed.

I wish people would stop thinking John David can act because he has his father's last name. He is not a good actor.

No they are not being spoiled kids there are some legit issues that need to be addressed.

Take this quote from a vfx artist:

Another visual effects artist, who wished to remain anonymous, told New York magazine’s Vulture website: “When I worked on one movie, it was almost six months of overtime every day. I was working seven days a week, averaging 64 hours a week on a good week. Marvel genuinely works you really hard. I’ve had co-workers sit next to me, break down and start crying. I’ve had people having anxiety attacks on the phone.”

I've heard stories where artist will literally have weeks worth of work thrown out because they were working with directors who are new to working with VFX. The artist are doing exactly what is asked up to that point. However, the director will re-edit a scene (editing has to be to finished before proper VFX work can be completed) or has to see it completely rendered out before they can make a final decision. It's the equivalent of an someone showing you plans for a house. You sign off on the plans. The house is 2/3's complete and you come back and say I don't like what your building, tear it down and start over. Now imagine having to start over on a project with a tight release deadline and 100's of millions on the line?

so something needs to change both sides

Yes the little girl was the best actor in the film. Well the dog stole a scene also.

Of course it did, modern day adult humans are only capable of enjoying silly comic book movies and bastardized star wars franchises, hell when you have legends like Scorsese and Wes Anderson dropping movies on streaming services then the little guy has almost zero chance.

I disagree we seen a string of low and mid level budget horror doing incredibly well.

Studios have to do better.

Those are the outliers thanks to studios like A24, plus small-mid budget horror has always had a place in Cinema due to it's low risk, high reward nature.

Idk when we'll ever get a Kevin Smith or Tarantino level director with the current state of things, hope I'm wrong though

and yes studios are definitely to blame especially shit studios like Sony and Disney, but they follow the money, and adults these days are just glorified children when it comes to their tastes. Arguing over Superman and spiderman like it's a deep philosophical discussion Lol

So what if it "flopped" at the box office? You're about to see "THE CREATOR" become that film which over time, will inspire and create an entire new generation of filmmakers. Gareth Edwards will be seen as that ICON who reinvented Hollywood.
A $4k Camera?
An $80 Million looking at least 3 times its budget?
That's future Film School Textbook shit right there.

Glad I got to see it at My Favorite IMAX theater before some shitty "EXORCIST" sequel took over that screen.
Though I was also about to see it again in Dolby Cinema.
Which that "EXORCIST" film also took over.

Visually excellent. Worth a trip to the theater. The storyline took from a bunch of movies, so it's not really "new" as it's been marketed. Washington's acting just isn't hitting yet. Glad he is steadily working though. The kid actor has a future though.
