Tech Help: I'm looking for a new PC for under $500...

if your cables are short you can get extensions if its that important to you they are inexpensive

Yeah But to be honest, the case is so large that the cords barely have slack to tie together...give suggestions on a method if you see something i can do differently with the cords inside
you can buy extension for the cables that dont reach.

but i don't see any connections that are too far for the wires to reach.

your atx cable you run behind the motherboard and it comes out in the top left corner of the case to reach your atx plug
your fan connection in rear there should be a fan port right by it to the left of the processor. if not run it down the opening behind the graphics card
same thing run your pci-e cable behind the motherboard and out of the second opening for you video card

Fam if you still in NYC go to Microcenter.

I'm going this Friday...

if I don't find anything there then I'll order something on line.

I really just needed to find the minimum specs I should be looking for...

and you aint gonna believe this I have STILL not been able to fix that old laptop either!

Sidebar:

This another thing I just remembered

I got a old laptop with maxed memory brand new hard drive perfect Condition but the damn thing keeps crashing...

Been trying to fix it off and on for over a damn year.

Anyone know a good affordable pc repair in ny/nj?

Cause bgol tech has been helping me for MONTHS and I just can't figure it out.

Is there a thread from where you had the discussion before?

Yeah I gotta do a search and bump that.

You know what? It's been months. I can see this is stressing you out and this is just one more headache you just do not need. And, uh, you know Christmas is coming up, and a New Year where it's time to release the old, and embrace the new. Sooooo, you can just mail that baby to me as a Christmas gift, so you can move on with your life and stop being held back by unfinished business. And don't think of it as a gift to me, think of it as a gift to YOURSELF. You will be gifting yourself peace of mind and getting rid of the worry and frustration nagging the at the edge of your thoughts. I realize this is taking on a difficult and time consuming task, but since you are my BGOL friend, I'm willing to take that burden on so you can be FREE and go on and enjoy life!!!

Yeah, I know, but it you have to admit it sounded good anyway.... ....

People still using desktops? Grab a ASUS from best buy or amazon for basic computing. Good quality and specs for the low

do your a/v receiver not support hdmi? if it does that would be the best way to hook up your audio. then have the receiver output hdmi to tv. but then again you may not need or care for the extra audio hdmi carries with it

Problems like what? I've been a Dell reseller for almost 10 years and the only models I've seen with widespread issues with were old 620 and 320's.

Biggest problem that i have sen with 3020s is the ones with i5 and windows 7. We have seen multiple issues of computers locking up in the Login screen. We have reimaged these mahines multiple times. we made sure Bios is up to date we also checked all updates. No matter what we do, we come back and find that you can only move the mouse and we cant even hit CTRL-ALT DEL to get the login prompt. I put in 2 calls to dell on this and have and open ticket. We are already moving forward with the new DELLs next week. I believe they are 3040s. My boss is convinced on moving toward another product like Lenovo.

Cool thanks for the info. I haven't deployed many 3020's. But all in all Dell desktops and laptops are more stable in my experience.

Best thing about Dell is the Warranty. Printers or pc parts, if you call and report the problem usually before 2 or 3 you'll have it at your door the next day. You can't beat that for minimizing customer downtime.

went to microcenter

HP 6300 Desktop Computer Refurbished; Intel Core i5-3470 Processor 3.2GHz; Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit; 8GB RAM; 500GB Hard Drive

for $300 I got a printer too (and a free memory stick) and all together it wasn't even 350, everything I needed for UNDER my budget

And I DID find some good laptops for even less (big screen heavy laptops are being practically GIVEN away)

sidebar: I saw some nice 32' LCD TVs for like $99

I just plugged it in last night and so far great.

I just installed a firewall antivirus and adware cleaner

still need a full version of winzip if anyone has one.

nice buy. i like hp stuff. the first computer i bought for myself was an hp. does the motherboard have hdmi on it? if not then if you want you can add a fairly cheap video card for that. i think its worth having for hooking up to a nice computer monitor or even a tv.

I'm in the position where I have to get a new pc as well. I know for intel the i7 processor is the most desirable, but what about AMD processors? Which one should I look for or avoid?

Is it just me or are these pcs now ugly as sin? They used to be cute.
