Tech Help: I'm looking for a new PC for under $500...

Damn...I don't even need all that!
But it looks great...got anything simpler?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2857426 if you wanna start off on the low end. all you need with it is a case and dvd burner. a decent tower can be had for like 40 bucks and a dvd burner starts at 18. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2899084 do this if you want damn near everything you need and if you prefer intel over amd. all you need to get with it is a dvd burner.

I got question...I still want to know what are minimum specs a pc needs right now?

Quad core or Dual?

Does processor name brand matter?

Minimum hard drive space?

Minimum memory?

bruh i got one like this with an even smaller hard drive

wiped it clean and installed Win 10

all i use it for is watchin videos and internet

its honestly way more than u need and the price is right

that depends on what you want it to do...

if you're just doing basic shit and watching movies and light on the games a dual core with 4-8gb of ram will do the job.

storage capacity depends on what you are doing too...

lotta music and movies? 1tb or more

keeping it basic? 250-500gb

avg computer now is a quad core with 1tb storage and 8gb of ram

in my opinion I would look for a least a quad core processor. name brand doesnt matter but they both have their strengths and weaknesses. hard drive space is relative to what you need. you can always buy an external hard drive if you ever need more space. 8gb of ram is a minimum. since 500 is your budget that does leave you some room to increase whatever part you feel needs it. i would say get a better processor now. the rest can always be upgraded later if you desire. i just built me a computer a month ago and it came out to just over 500 (527 was my final total). my specs are:

processor: amd fx8350 (8 core processor running at 4GHz per core)
hard drive: 250gb samsung ssd drive (main drive) 1tb western digital (second drive)
ram: 8gb hyper x ddr3 ram
video card: nvidia geforce 750ti 2gb gddr5 ram
it also came with a corsair case which is very nice and i used the dvd burner from my old tower. i plan on adding another 8gb ram stick next week. this build was ordered on newegg. it did come with a power supply but i had already bought a new one and i gave the one that came with it to my brother-in-law.

If you want a desktop, build it. If you want a laptop, now is the best time to get one with three back to school deals. It only takes a hour or two to build one. Very straightforward process with minimal technical skill needed.

also if you need help there's alot of videos on youtube with a step by step on what to do. if you can put together furniture from a store you can build a computer.

If you are gaming I suggest putting a little more into your graphics card. Integrated graphics only will frustrate you.

Better to build your own one
Trust me I know...but that's for later date

Just need something quick right now.
A PC is not something you just go out and "get really quick" without putting some thought into it.
If you have a Microcenter nearby buy all the parts there and you can build your PC in a day.

im at that place every damn week. they are a whole lot cheaper than Fry's.

get a chromebook with a 128gb memory card, if thats all you plan to do.

Man I like Chromebooks but I can't recommend them to the average person. Cloud printing ain't for everyone and the lack of video codecs beyond MP4/AVI might be an issue depending on what he's downloading

do not get a chromebook. my friend works at a school and they gave the staff those damn things to work on. she came to me to show her how to use it (she's not very computer literate) and i hate that thing. get a notebook or cheap laptop if you wanna go that route

@playahaitian
Most desktops are gonna be overkill for what you need in terms of RAM and storage... I always look for an Intel Core i3 processor or higher. Staples and MicroCenter have some good deals.

This uses a 2 year old i5 processor but should be adequate

you can get a real nice older model macbook pro... plenty of reputable refurbished mac dealers online. I got mines in a pawn shop. upgraded the memory to 8 gigs, added a new 1tb hd. & a multiport 3.0 usb hub. fuck a pc.

picked up an HP @ office Depot with a I-3 processor for 399.... no monitor though ...but its decent you can multi task though without freezing up

i am sure these cats hearts are in the right place

but not a single one of them recommending building one is listening to u and your present need

The OP mentioned he had a $500 budget and needed something quick.
You can build a quality PC for that price and have it done in a day.
What am I missing?

What am I missing?
for what he plan to do and way beyond

he don't need to spend close to that

u cats are sayin build it cus u know how and it USUALLY is the way to go

but the op just need a box to mess around wit

microcenter refub all day in that case

for the low

just cus u got $500 DON'T mean u need to spend $500

its always cheaper to build your own pc. this should fit your budget. the parts below exclude the monitor and operating system.
