Tech heads....NVIDIA Shield...new media streaming/gaming device

end up returning it :( love the hardware...kodi app always been dope but the addons just aren't reliable enough for me...I remember when I 1st got kodi being able to stream GoT in 1080 guaranteed weekly...the HD streams I'm getting now are maybe a notch better than DVD quality and that's if they work...and w/o kodi the shield doesn't really do anything my XB1/PS4 doesn't already do for me...for anyone tho w/o a gaming system or a media device I would def say get this shit over roku fire TV apple TV etc

Not sure who else is running Ares Wizard or Fusion addon?

I use this, primarily for addons and the 'Easy Advanced Setting' under Tweaks. This will optimize your setting and help with any issues such as buffering.

I like this because it lets you take full advantage of the shields large cache and processor speed. The default cache for Kodi is 62mb. Currently mine is set for 462mb.

There are other 'Easy Advanced Settings under various builds, wizards and addons. Fusion addon has one that works well also.

I think you can also find it as a stand alone addon, but I have Ares loaded anyway, so that's where I use it.

Got my update a couple of days ago, but haven't had time to play with it yet.

New SHIELD Features
  • Adds mouse navigation using SHIELD controller’s right stick. This feature is supported automatically in apps that don’t use the right stick. Example: Google Chrome browser (install from Google Play store using a PC).

Enhancements
  • Marshmallow functionality and stability improvements such as external USB drive detection, FTP write access, HDMI-CEC, idle/sleep stability, SD card formatting, mouse support, and more.
  • Monthly Android security updates, including the March 2016 partner security bulletin.

I assume shield owners got their 3.2 update by now.

Lots of nice upgrades including transcoding.

Advanced New Features
  • Access SHIELD folders from a network PC or Mac and enjoy drag-and-drop file sharing. Enable in Settings > Storage & reset > Access SHIELD folders on PC.
  • Mount a network attached storage device (NAS) to SHIELD to access your complete media collection. Stream this media to mobile devices using the Plex app and SHIELD’s HD hardware transcode. Set up in Settings > Storage & reset > Network storage.
  • Automatically turn off your TV when SHIELD sleeps. Enable in Settings > HDMI > HDMI-CEC preferences.
  • Enable YCbCr 4:4:4 color space for improved video quality on supported TVs. Go to Settings > HDMI > Color space.
Other Enhancements
  • Improves picture quality for RGB TVs
  • Delivers the latest monthly Android security updates
  • Improves video playback for 23.976 Hz refresh rate
  • Improves TV compatibility

Movian is a great app on google play if you want to stream from your PC to the shield if you don't want to use Plex or go though Kodi.

So far it's played everything I've streamed.

It also has a lot of plugins.

Why makes this better than firestick and other streaming boxes? And please answer simple words,I'm not a Techie

i got one on prime day! $139. i don't think you can find a new one for that price. the bad thing is, it didn't come with a controller! :crymeariver:

Simple. Speed and interface. Firestick has 1 Gig of Ram the Nvidia has 3gigs. Also you have 16 gigs of space (base model) and 500gigs on the pro model. Basically, it's a compact computer that does not only video but gaming. You can even throw emulators on it and play old school games. Virtually no lag.

The firestick is like your work vehicle and the Nvidia is your luxury car you keep in the garage.
