Tech heads....NVIDIA Shield...new media streaming/gaming device

All I use is Kodi on my X2 and my G-Box.
I got a Ps4...Xbox1...Xbox 360...and a Ps3.
My X2 and G-Box does everything I need. Plus the X2 is 4k compatible. I'm str8 On this Nvidia and Nexus. Props to this thread tho.

Pretty good comparison.. If Ethernet is important, you can add it (and other accessories) to the Nexus Player using these 2 items. They were plug and play for me.

StarTech.com 5in Micro USB to USB OTG Host Adapter - Micro USB Male to USB A Female On-The-GO Host Cable Adapter Amazon product ASIN B00B4GGW5Q

[2-in-1] Inateck 3 Ports USB 3.0 Hub and RJ45 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Hub Converter LAN Wired Network Adapter with a Built-in 1ft USB 3.0 Cable Amazon product ASIN B00IJU0K2Q

Honestly when you do this the price is pretty close to the Nvidia and then, it just doesn't warrant a purchase. The fact I can play strider or Batman arkham origins with no hiccups @ 1080p 60fps then go right to kodi and resume a TV show or movie I was watching before is unreal.

Also anyone buying the shield, buy the 16gb. It comes with an ssd and for $60 you can buy a 1tb hard drive instead of paying $100 more for the pro model and only getting 500gb.

^^I have the 16gb version with a terabyte drive connected to mine too!

The 16gb runs faster than the 500gb model due to the system being installed on an ssd rather than a conventional hdd.
Exactly why I got the 16gb version. I added a sdcard and i have a few portable 1, 2tb HDD laying around if necessary. For a light gamer such as myself all the media streaming apps the Shield is a go!

Man.....
I just bought the Beelink i68 a few days ago
Got it home, set it up, everything looked good, but then...
I went to the settings menu, updated the firmware and BOOM...that bitch crashed, video went dead, I get nothing at all now
TBH I wasn't impressed with the build quality of it anyway

So determined to get something working for the weekend, I went back to the FireTV box
I finally figured out how to get live TV (IPTV Stalker) working on the new FireTV box
No need for the Beelink anymore, about to send this shit back asap
The new Firetv box (not the stick) is good if you don't play video games, & don't want to spend the money on the Nvidia Shield

:hmm::hmm::hmm:

Hey bruh, the Marshmallow update doesn't look like it's been released yet. I've been checking a couple times a week.

To be honest about the games, I really haven't gotten into them on the shield. I will eventually try some out though. I'm kind of new to Kodi and been concentrating on getting up to speed on it.

Not sure if I've seen them at Best Buy. Report back if/when you get it. Interested in hearing your thoughts.

Check Amazon first fam

bestbuy has them for the same price as amazon @ $199 but that price too much tho...thought it was like $99 or $149...my main problem w/ kodi when I was running it on fire TV was dead streams...nvidia ain't gonna solve that...the gaming aspect had me ready to bite tho but not @ that price

JUST upgraded it, but haven't had time to play around yet. Tonight though, it's on!

Got mine yesterday, voice feature is nice as hell, just want to load the emulators on it.

Just finished the download. Moving over a few apps off my sd card so I can format so the system see it as internal storage. Gotta leave out to pickup my kids up so I'll get back to it later.

Kodi 16.0 – Jarvis – Mark XVI

This just updated yesterday.

"We are proud to announce the release of Kodi 16.0. Kodi 16 is a heavy under-the-hood improvements release, but let’s review some of the more prominent features coming out. Event Logging The first big step in making Kodi better at communicating with you, the user, is the addition of event logging. With this feature you …"

decided to try nvidia shield...got it for $199...came w/ the game controller + the remote so I guess I got a little bit of a deal...much sleeker than I expected it to be...it's almost smaller overall than the game controller...seems like kodi will be far easier to install on this than the fire TV...not that that was hard but this just seems a bit more convenient...what made me pull the trigger tho was I saw a review that basically mentioned everything the OP did but I was really impressed by their streaming game library...I have 30 days to test the shield out...if I feel like it's overkill then I'll take it back

Congrats Soup Nutz. Be sure to update the firmware. That way, you can install apps on an external hard drive.

ya it started updating soon as I signed in to google...I'll more than likely keep it...I can tell it will be more intuitive when it comes to kodi...the fire TV isn't bad...but I had to do a bit more leg work and the experience wasn't as smooth as it could've been...for cats deciding...I could see getting this if they don't mind paying the extra $$$ for ease of use/convenience when it comes to kodi and @ least having the option of gaming...using android apps...4K output etc...I wish I had copped it on that black fri. deal...getting the remote and the game controller for $150 is a great deal considering that's exactly how much it'd cost to get the fire TV and the game controller...but ya man this thread put the bug in my ear

 yeah, that was a great deal.

kodi is fucking flawless on this...as you and others have said...it feels like it was meant to work on this...I have a habit tho of getting excited about things early on lol will play around w/ this some more

*edit*

cool...kodi can update on its on now...that wasn't the case on the fire TV

Did you go with any builds? Only one I use is the TVaddons one. I tried the Beast but never cared for how it bogged my Raspberry Pi2 down. Never tried it again when I got the Shield TV.
