Tech heads....NVIDIA Shield...new media streaming/gaming device

I just ordered mines. If it's as nice as I've read I'm selling my FireStick & Roku3 ASAP!!

With all due respect! Some of the opinions sometimes is SHIT on the board. Cats raved about the Chromecast, Amazon TV Stick and Bee X2 and i went out and bought them on the strength of the positive word of mouth here..

They were ALL ASS IMO. :puke:

So I'm not too keen on spending $200 this time on another strong recommend....

Just say'in!
Lmao!!!

Garbage, not only do you have to buy the games at retail price to play on there you also have to pay them a monthly fee

Man this thing is probably one of the best investments I ever made. PERIOD! There is tons of porn, tv (free on demand), movies (I'm watching Hungar Games part 2 as I type, Creed is next) foreign shows, porn, oldschool games (virtually every system except xbox-1 or ps4) and you have all your other stuff like Netflix (which you have to pay for) but all the other shit alone has paid for this baby. Did I mention it has tons of porn?o_O Dude, I don't need to pay for no NVidia games, I will root through the whole NES,, SNES genesis library before I do that shit. Yep stick it to the man:D:p

Thx motherfuckers, you helped me decide and I got it.:hmm:

Man this thing is so great....I may get rid of all that other shit I got....starting to get a little emotional boss

Got mines 2 weeks ago use it everyday. KODI, Netflix, Hulu HBO GO, Starz my own PLEX server, thanks to BGOl my movie collection is 3k plus streaming from my Synology server ...etc and the online streaming gaming is nice too. I also added PPSSPP and play PSP portable games, NES, SNES all other retro games. It does have a few qirkes I noticed with the game controller, but having the remote it's really no big deal. I want another one. Got the 16gb with 128gb sd card. I know the next update will make it even more robust. If you thinking about getting one get it. Wasn't even hip til this thread. Well worth the $199

Damn this looks kinda sick!...Just watched some of the vids posted in this thread...I'm intrigued by being able to load NES, Dreamcast rom's, etc...might have to cop for the holidays....

What's it like playing retro games on this box?
Better than Chinese Android boxes on Amazon that people are praising in the other thread?
What are the cons/ downsides of this box? What fucks up consistently?

Not sure about those other boxes, but this has played every Emulator I've thrown at it. The Dreamcast and PSP Emulators work damn near flamelessly.

Just got mines and can confirm,This is the best set-top box I've owned. Any app suggestions? I already got kodi chrome and a couple of games. Modern combat 5 is not as good as I thought it would be but then again it's not optimized for it. Dead effect 2 is great though.

Plan on a buying a vpn and WiFi extender for those source issues on kodi.

subbed for later.... was thinking of getting the Matricom G-Box just to stream Kodi and etc, but may spend the extra $$ for this since it seems to do more.

Can anyone personally confirm that the shield is truly a better experience/device than the G-Box?

Yea there are cheaper options than the Nvidia Shield
Here is what I did...

I recently bought the NEW amazon firetv box (not the stick), last month
It was noticeably faster than the old version BUT it does not work if you want to watch LIVE TV on Kodi
Like if you have (iptv stalker) or any other LIVE TV addon, the audio will play but video freezes after a few seconds
I even returned & got a replacement, & still the same thing

I looked here on BGOL & other places on the net for another alternative
It was either buy the 1)Nvidia Sheid OR 2)Beelink box
If you don't play video games, the Nvidia Shield is way too much money JUST to have for a Kodi box
The Beelink is probably a better option (not the Beelink X2, but the Beelink i68)

I noticed the Beelink X2 is the cheap one that a bunch of guys on here bought
But the same company makes a faster more powerful upgraded version called the Beelink i68
Plus it already comes with a remote control
I read that it handles Kodi better than the Matricom G-Box
I just bought mine from Amazon yesterday, I'll probably set it up this weekend

there are much cheaper options for kodi
If one ONLY wanted to run KODI, I wouldn't recommend an Nvidia Shield TV.

If one wanted to run KODI, play video games, stream PC games, and have the option of side loading apps and utilize Android TV, you damn right I'd recommend this.

The ability to stream 4K is a plus. Don't have a 4K TV yet, but as stated above it's future proof.

I have 2 4k TV'S in my house and the Nvidia has been worth it. My 65 inch Sony pops

Pretty good comparison.. If Ethernet is important, you can add it (and other accessories) to the Nexus Player using these 2 items. They were plug and play for me.

StarTech.com 5in Micro USB to USB OTG Host Adapter - Micro USB Male to USB A Female On-The-GO Host Cable Adapter Amazon product ASIN B00B4GGW5Q

[2-in-1] Inateck 3 Ports USB 3.0 Hub and RJ45 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Hub Converter LAN Wired Network Adapter with a Built-in 1ft USB 3.0 Cable Amazon product ASIN B00IJU0K2Q

Nexus player still not reaching the performance levels the Shield is though. On top of that, no 4K (future proof) and you have to add all that shit to your Nexus Player in order to have Ethernet connectivity, instead of spending the extra money.

Do you though.

Remember, my post you quoted was in response to someone who only wanted Kodi. This is strictly a media/Kodi player and Chromecast device for me, so it's performed flawlessly in that regard. Significantly better than the Amazon devices.

For a while, the Nexus was 1/4 the price of the Shield at $49. I set 2 of them up for a co-worker with Ethernet connectivity and still came out cheaper than the Shield.

Does the Nexus player come with the controller or is that an additional cost?

Never mind, I see the Nexus Player is $79.99 on sale at Best Buy ($99 regular price), the controller is an additional $40.

In addition to having Ethernet, better specs and a broader ecosystem in terms of games and apps, I don't see why one would get a Nexus Player over a Shield.

Honestly, if KODI was all you needed, I don't see why one would get a Nexus Player over a Raspberry Pi 2 or Firestick.

Comes with a remote, game controller is extra at $30. It's a media player first and gaming device second. If gaming is important, I'd go with the Shield for the reasons mentioned in the video (graphics performance and WiFi instead of Bluetooth for the controller)
