TC Carson Reveals He Was Fired From 'Living Single': "We Were Getting Less Than"

I was gonna mention New York undercover cuz those two did collectively try to get more money but they didn't have the leverage they thought...while the show was extremely popular among blacks and latinos it consistently ranked in the mid-30s in ratings....not bad enough to get cancelled but not good enough to demand more money and all kinds of riders in their contracts either....so the showrunner decided to split them up...kill off one and the other would buckle down and that's how the spanish dude got fired.

Hawaii 5-0 dropped the two asian cast members after 7 SEASONS when they asked for more money and the two white dudes leading the show weren't even as famous as those two...Grace Park had come off Battlestar Galactica and Daniel Dae Kim was on Lost...the guy who plays McGarrett is some canadian actor and Dano is more famous for being James Caan's son than anything he's ever done individually...yet they didn't get their backs.

Back in June 2017, it was announced that both Park and fellow series regular Daniel Dae Kim would not be return for Season 8. At the time, it was reported that they failed to secure pay parity with co-stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan — but in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Park says that “there were a number of factors spanning the show that affected the non-renewal of my contract.” And while she’s “grateful for the lessons learned,” she says, the choice to leave was ultimately “what was best for my integrity.” (but when monique says that word black people call her crazy)

the issue with monique was that she wanted folks to ban netflix becuase of what they wanted to give her. she could of did what louis ck did , shoot his own show and sell it digitally on line for 5.00. dude made over 2 million. she could of did that and use it for leverage with amazon prime or netflix.

White people LOVED those shows. Your post implied they didn't.

LOVED LOVED THOSE SHOWS.

Only Seinfeld took awhile to connect

Funny thing i remember i was watching more than white folk in the beginning cause i was heavy into stand up.

Different time. Back then network would allow a show especially a WHITE one to FIND its audience

Black shows very rarely if ever given that much leeway

Try and think back on the history of Fox shows with black shows and leads. How many made it past 5 seasons. Shows like "New York Undercover," was killed off in the 5th season. But I remember Fox treating that cast like shit. Fox blamed it low ratings.

"In Living Color" needed to die after the main cast split after season 3, tired of fighting the censors. The last 2 seasons were brutal.

Living Single so did the cast end the show in support of TC?

IMO all these shows seemed to get cut short and ratings had little to do with it. Seems Fox could always justify their reasons for dropping shows of black interest. Yet that trailer trash show "Married With Children' got 10 seasons.

You not wrong.

The answer to all your questions is money.

They weren't trying to give a black cast salary bumps plus residuals and syndication money.

They would suddenly have to MOVE the show's time slot.

They even did that sh*t to the Jefferson's

Go look after Seinfeld, friends, cheers etc hit did the really MOVE them around?

Black shows and sports put Fox on the map when it was a fledgling network.

The Will thing to me is more complicated

He was so damn young and the pressure he was under

I completely understand.
And broke

But i think the problem is that he never made good
And kind of let janet be the bad guy for all these years

I think OG Aunt Viv behavior AFTER the fact was not sympathetic or encouraging

If how she spoke to the public after the fact is how she spoke to will and rest of the cast

Sidebar: the REST of the cast should not be given a pass either

I completely understand will not being responsive to that type of energy.

And again his age his responsibilities him being the FIRST rapper in that position the show BEING MADE for him. Will had a lot of people he OWED.

That's his agents responsiblity to negotiate in that minefield

Again her behavior AFTER the fact made her highly unsympathetic no matter the truth of the actual situation and she has no one to blame but herself for that.

Kinda amazes me how comfortable hollywood has always been with programing weak/clown black images...especially those of black males and of course the traditional killin of the token black dude in the 1st 10mins of every sci-fi/horror flix.

Why that response? I have never seen 1 minute of any of those shows. An I know of no one black ever bringing those shows up in conversation. FYI for whatever reason those shows did not appeal to black people.
Cosign. No one was watching those trash ass shows until there were no other decent shows left to watch on TV

Good to hear the brotha admit what most people (white) don’t know and that is ‘Friends’ was stolen from ‘Living Single’... just like the movie ‘The Town’ was stolen from ‘Set It Off’.

CAC loves to steal our ideas and pass them off as their own. I’m not sure they have invented anything of relevance in entertainment without jacking the idea from a so-called black man or woman.

I agreee with you about Friends but not The Town. Besides the bank robber aspect, there are NO similarities between the characters, storyline, Police or screenplay for those two films.

Ben is from Boston and knows that story all to well being from the block. Charlestown dudes was on some shit back then. You talking about a whole hood of professional criminals that all lived, breathed and hit licks like any person working a regular job.

Friends definitely stole its whole shit from Living Single.
But even though The Town is officially supposed to be based on the book Prince of Thieves , I don't think it was that or Set it Off.
I think it was based on the real-life dudes, Anthony Shea and the No Name Gang. They were actually bank robbers from the "town"(Charlestown) up in Boston.

Check this out when you get a chance:

YES

This is right.

them and the big bang theory crew did that too....

the problem is solidarity like that isn't easy to come by...

one of the biggest issues Janet Hubert had with Will Smith was that she went to him about contract negotiations and some kind of collective bargaining with the network and his response was "My deal is my deal and your deal is your deal"

on that talk show The Real...the two lesser known chicks went to Tamara Mowry with the same collective bargaining suggestion and her response was the same as will smith

and the biggest example was 3s company... Suzanne summers went to John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt about asking for substantially more money...ritter was the highest paid actor on the show and posited as the star but Summers was extremely popular in her own right by the 3rd season and all of them started at the same time so she felt him getting like 150k an episode vs 75k for them wasn't fair and while they all agreed to ask when the time came Ritter and DeWitt backed down and essentially left Summers out there alone. We know the rest. The fucked up part is that history showed she was right.

and not that's just Hollywood...shit like that happens in all professional fields.
I worked at ACORN for about 2 weeks as a kid. Do you know that is the most fun I have ever had?

Do you remember their motto? It was “There is strength in numbers.”

A book (Prince of Thieves 2007) made after Set it Off (1996)

Four masked men—thieves, rivals, and friends from the tough streets of Charlestown—take on a Boston bank at gunpoint. Holding bank manager Claire Keesey hostage and cleaning out the vault were simple. But career criminal Doug MacRay didn't plan on one thing: falling hard for Claire. When he tracks her down without his mask and gun, their mutual attraction is undeniable.

That sounds vaguely familiar.

dude i said that when it came out back in 2011

The Town pretty much played like

yet one is critically acclaimed and the other ignored:rolleyes:

now watch blunt have shit fit explaining why there's a difference:rolleyes::rolleyes:
The big difference is that YOU'RE an idiot. :smh:

Totally different films in EVERY way, from plot to production quality to budget to the talent involved. I don't think Set It Off was inspired by the great '70s Boston film The Friends of Eddie Coyle, or the novel Prince of Thieves.

Yes, except that Set It Off was terrible. And The Town did not feature a gratuitous coming out lesbian sex scene.
maybe, but i liked the town more. i dont remember much about set if off except latifah played herself, and one of 'em survives and rides a bus at the end, lol.
nigga please...

a group of bank robbers in both films

in each film one wants to stop but circumstances won't allow it.

everyone in the crew dies except one who gets away

The lead characters both have relationships with bank managers who's bank they robbed.

hell the last scene where Affleck watches his friend get shot by the cops isextremely similar to the scene where jada watches vivica get shot by the cops.

they were more alike than not and you know it:lol:

FIRST SENTENCE: No, I got fired... I got fired.
SECOND SENTENCE: It wasn't that I got fired, it was the way it was done.
:rolleyes2:

I didnt even watch the video,

but I gather he meant, he doesnt feel some type of

way over being fired, but feels some type of way

in which the way it was done...

That whole “Must See TV” NBC Thursday night lineup was a bunch of BS.

Nobody was watching “Seinfeld”, “Friends” or “Frasier” back then.

Majority of the country was tuned into FOX watching “Martin”, “Living Single” and “NY Undercover”.

Yeah, the Neilson ratings said NBC was on top, but everybody knew those ratings were BS cuz they had those Neilson boxes mainly located in the Midwest like Iowa or up in Montana where it’s all White folks or heavily predominantly White communities.

I have talked to plenty of White folks since those shows debut and they all say they were watching FOX. Especially mofos in the Gen X age group who those shows were targeted too.

They would say they would watch the NBC shows when they repeated like during the holidays, Easter time and during the summer tv hiatus break.

You talk to white folks you know who were around in the 90s and they will say the same thing.
This x 1,000

This is how it looks when a chick is trying to throw that pussy at you.

She was ALL over him. Even said she wished her husband had a voice like his then tried to clean it up...basically said, "I'm just joking, hubby!!" :roflmao:

I'm not gonna lie.
Part of my speech pattern is influenced by this mofo.

All TC has to do is point to the floor and she would quickly plop down on her knees
Wrong customer for him! Nicca a fag!! He used to be up on the north side of Chicago and my sister in law used to see him with his dude all the time..back in the day

so cats really think that somebody saw set it off...and wrote a book based off of it....and changed the characters to white men?
