Taking Control of the Black Image

Your intent is good.

I too used to think like that until I saw the light.

Question...........

Do you think gays would allow programming that continually show them in a bad light and come up with the solution of turning the channel?????

Do you think Jews would allow programming that continually show them in a bad light and come up with the solution of turning the channel?????

Then why do you think Blacks should allow programming that continually show them in a bad light and come up with the solution of turning the channel?????

If black people wanna change their image in the media, then they have to stop watching the shows that portray them in a negative light. The problem is that alot of the 18 to 32 year old that the viacom and these other media companies cater to, don't really care about the black image and keep watching these shows. The guys at the top in the media company see the ratings, think that this is what black folks want, and they keep on putting it on the airwaves.

If things are gonna change, black folks are gonna have to change up, cause Mr. Goldstein, or whoever's in charge of programming ain't gonna do it. The thing is that most black people are comfortable with their media image, and see nothing about it that needs improvment.

Thank you for your effort my brotha. But if we are to change the image of how we are being portrayed, we first have to create and maintain an avenue to give the proper image, as we see it. Anything other than that is falling upon deaf ears, and tainted sight. Will keep for future use, just in case.

Preach...respect to KAYA tho...

but we are supporting these "Flava of Luv" type shows so what else would they do but put more coonery on TV...

no matter how much we write to complain about our image they got another brotha watching it and loving it....

it starts in our community....I don't even watch alot of B/S on TV...I don't watch music videos alot...or these retarded reality shows..."G's To Gents"....:smh:....I try to stay away from the idiot box...the only reason i got cable is to watch movies and fights....

I can't even remember the last time I wtach BET...maybe when NAS was on....but I steer clear of the B/S....thats how you get them....writing won't do any good as long as "some" of us keep supporting negative trash about blk folks....

shit didn't Three 6 Mafia piss on some actress lawn in Beverly Hills....on their MTV reality show.....:smh:...exact B/S i'm talking about....

Now I understand what they said about you in the Trust thread... You have been fighting for African American knowledge and Image here for more than 2 years.

We need more brothers and sisters to understand their past, see their present, and take back our future. Here in the US, in Europe, and our home Afrika. Thanks for posting this...

I've sent numerous letters to NBC to retract the child support story which they ran here. They said that claims has doubled in the last three years [the truth part], but placed a black face on dead beat fathers, when they were the ones with the highest number of current cases as well as historically using their own sources... it was another thread on here which I placed it.

Anyway

They really should sticky this to the front page

Bump. This thread is 2 years old and the black image has gotten worse (with a few obvious exceptions) since then!

Nice idea Kaya but imo it fails.

We aren't even in control of the media (The government and elite families are), and no matter what type of persuation and legitimate attempt we make to change the image prescribed to us it won't work. They are intentionally creating this false image of what black is, for what possible reason would they change their methods now????

I'm not even totally sure there is even a real avenue we could use in order to make this a reality, not only in the United States but around the world.

Sending in complaints won't do a damn thing imo and considering it is from the same group of p
eople they're false advertising I know they could give a damn.

It's just like how it has played out for thousands of years, the winners inevitably create their version of history while everyone else has to follow it.

I believe that avenue you both speak of has to be the internet. The web is the only medium that anyone could use to challenge big media. As was posted earlier in the thread, corporate media has full control over TV and other traditional media.

I like what they're doing at TheRoot.com, but even that's owned by a larger media company (washington post).

They did what? :smh: :puke: I knew they were low class but that is some sub human no respect type of stuff. Its' not even because she's white. What human being would do that to another human being? That is why they have bathrooms'.

This is why I dont understand the people who defends Tyler Perry...We complain about whites and other races portraying black folks in a negative light;we get upset about it but when a black person like Tyler Perry does the same exact thing we have a lot of co-signers who think its cool to do it...:smh::smh::smh:

All they see is a black man making films of black people and feel this is enough, that content is not important, as long as it represents them... they are also stemming from the success of his plays, which basically went the same as the movies with singing and more Jesus.
That is another thing, like in the Apollo, no one boos gospel singers or talks about films with religious statements, not in our community.
For the most part, in his roles it has been the man to get the bias image, not the women, and if your target audience is women, and they already believe that the characters of men in the movie is unimportant, who is going to complain? the crossdresser?
