Star Wars The Last Jedi (SPOILER Discussion thread)

I think they just wanted to leave some things up in the air in this teaser. I fully expect to see an awake Finn in the official trailer(s). Or at least a shot of him waking up.

I think you guys are a little hard on the man, myself. I feel like he went on as much of a journey as Rey did, even if Rey's conclusion was a little more definitive. That said, I'm going to be disappointed if they try tot say that Finn doesn't at least have some Jedi potential inside of him. Because all of the signs pointed to that, and they still kinda do.

I'm kinda drawn in by what Luke says near the end there. I don't think Luke is turning to the Dark Side. I think he realizes exactly what he was saying before: there is a balance. So the Jedi have to go away for the Sith to be gone as well. Because as long as one exists, sooner or later, the other will, too.

What Luke means at the end?

Jedi' code must transform and evolve the adherence to the light must die.

Jedi is the path of the light
Sith is the path of the dark

Luke has accepted that there is a balance. (Grey)
To master the force you must accept both sides.

Rey is the dark - started as light
Finn is the light - started at dark

Luke will teach one of them to balance the force and evolve.

I bet this "Rose" chick will try and be Finn's love interest..

I originally was disappointed with Finns character as well. Even complained about it on bgol. But after I watched it again, Im almost certain his character is force sensitive and considered a threat to the First order and will be a Jedi.

This reminds me of when an xmen movie came out some years ago and the black character with powers died
There was a big debate here some said he was not dead with his powers he can come back , the other side was like :hmm:
I think he was the only xmen that died in the movie or die first

I'm not sure what they based thier argument on, other than his powers.

But here is the repost of what I noticed on my second watch of the film. Kind of lengthy though.

I watched it again and have changed my opinion of the film for the most part. I still hold some reservations overall, but if it goes down the path I am now thinking, this ish might be classic. Alot depends on the next movies obviously.

Now..the things that I have a different opinion on.

I am a little more optimistic that Finn may be force sensitive. But I'm still not holding my breathe, I could be reaching. Reasons being:

When Finn snapped from his Storm Trooper protocol he immediately appeared on Kylo Ren's radar. Not only did Kylo look at him before he boarded his ship. He also immediately knew it was Finn who escaped with Poe. Also, in the early conversation with Snoke and Ren..they made it clear that their fear was if Luke ever were to return, he would raise up a new generation of Jedi. Later, one of Kylo Ren's men alerted Ren that the BB8 droid ended up with Finn...That is when Kylo Ren went off! then..they interrupted Ren's tantrum and told him a girl was with Finn as well. That's when he choked dude out..but remember, Ren went off before he even knew a girl was with them.
The last reason, when Ren told Snoke he felt an awakening and Snoke said he felt it as well, they had not encountered Rey's character yet. Once Kylo later captured Rey, he did not realize she was Force sensitive until he tried to read her mind. Remember Snoke could not believe she could resist Ren and mocked him for it, that's when Ren told Snoke that Rey was strong with the force but untrained. They almost seemed surprised by this, but earlier they said they felt an awakening. Its possible the awakening they felt was Finn..or the combination of Rey and Finn..remember, their fear is Luke raising a generation of Jedi.

As far as the rest of the movie. I'm still hoping Snoke is Plagues...which would be dope. But I did hear Abrahms or someone squashed that rumor...Anyway...hopefully he's lying. Cause if Snoke is Plaugus, then maybe he is planning to possess the body of Kylo Ren or Rey, the offspring of his own creation..Annakin Skywalker. Maybe Kylo Ren's call to the light is Annakin trying to warn him. Also, if Snoke posses Ren's body, he would instantly be a bad ass and a formidable foe. Not some whiny chump that Kylo ended up being.

I believe Rey was certainly trained though and may have either been mindwiped, but more likely her memories suppressed due to trauma. In that flashback, it appears she is wearing the little Jedi padwan gear as a little girl...and she may have witness the Knights of Ren wipe out the Jedi in training. That ship leaving may have been Luke, but could have also been her Mother. There is no way she should whip Rens ass like that otherwise. The other possibility is she also is conceived by the Force...but I hope not.

Only now I'm more convinced Finn is force sensitive.

Legacy character confirmed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

Luke giving Rey a few Jedi pointers on the island. During this training, maybe Yoda will return as a ghost to offer advice?

A Variety interview with Frank Oz from March certainly lends its hand to the possibility. In fact, Oz arguably confirms Yoda’s appearance with his “non-answer” answer.

Oz told the interviewer, “I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here. And I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.”

Why would Frank Oz give such an evasive answer unless Yoda had a definite role?

Even if Yoda had a part in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the role could be a very small one. During the flashback sequence with Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Yoda’s voice appeared only briefly.

Oz and The Force Awakens
Oz actually recorded original lines for The Force Awakens according to some reports. To the disappointment of many, those lines were cut from the movie.

In conclusion, Yoda likely plays a small role in The Last Jedi. The role could be a very small one though, and Yoda still could be cut again before the film releases. The answer Oz gave to Variety is a good sign at least.

Star Wars 8: John Boyega Shares A Look At Finn’s New Blaster

John Boyega has shared a look at Finn’s new blaster in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. While most of the narrative weight of Star Wars: The Force Awakens landed on the shoulders of Daisy Ridley’s Rey as she discovered her Force sensitivity and natural ability with a lightsaber, Boyega’s Finn also proved his worth as a stormtrooper who turned on the evil First Order to join the Rey and the rest of the Resistance. Fans have long wondered what sort of role Finn would occupy in the upcoming The Last Jed (Boyega himself has hinted that his character will be a “big deal” thanks to his battle with Kylo Ren) and, more importantly perhaps, how his character would evolve.

After inheriting Poe Dameron’s awesome jacket in The Force Awakens, it looks like Finn will get a cool sidearm in The Last Jedi. A video of the new blaster was posted on Boyega’s official Instagram, and shows what is presumably Boyega himself pulling the trigger on the prototype weapon. Boyega, who claims to be an avid Star Wars toy collector since before his casting as Finn, captioned the video with a thanks to writer and director Rian Johnson for Finn’s blaster. The video and a closer look at Finn’s new blaster is available below:

The new blaster is certainly a sleek design, including some fancy lighting effects that continue to emphasize a reliance on practical effects as we saw in both Rogue One and The Force Awakens(although the blaster will likely get som CGI augmentation when it does fire so it doesn’t look like a toy in the finished film). Trailers for The Force Awakens focused on the bait and switch of Finn with the lightsaber that used to belong to Anakin and Luke (and now Rey), and so far the best look we have of him in The Last Jedi shows him still healing from the injuries he received from Kylo Ren, so the prospect of Finn going off on his own mission is definitely an exciting opportunity for this character.

The Last Jedi is following its predecessor’s trend of staying spoiler free in marketing (at least so far), and while we’ve gleaned a few details about Finn’s involvement from interviews with Boyega and others, The Last Jedi still has a lot of Boyega related details up its sleeve, including the full nature of his relationship with newcomer Kelly Marie Trans’ character, Rose. The movie may not feature a romantic arc like Han and Leia in Empire Strikes Back, but there have been rumors that there is some sort of a spark between her and Finn, despite the popular fan shipping of Poe and Finn. Regardless, there’s a lot in store for the many new characters introduced in The Force Awakens, and we can expect more news to trickle out as we slowly await the December release of The Last Jedi.

are you kidding? Mark Hamill is a great actor... don't marginalize him because his voice work

I haven't seen him in anything other than SW and the driving movie. He wasn't a great actor then. He may be a good voice actor, but I don't know if he is a great actor. I think that is taking it a little too far. He should be a lot better considering the amount of work he has done.

Oh right. No I peeped that too. I meant the scene where she is shown fighting with a staff. I'm wondering if her staff will be revealed to be a lightsaber or if she chooses to build one. That seams too soon for her to build one tho. I'm not sure, I might be fanboying.
