The United States came from two goals down to stun the Netherlands 4-3 in a friendly in Amsterdam on Friday night.

Danny Williams and Bobby Wood scored two goals in the closing minutes to rally the U.S. to its first win over the Dutch in five attempts.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored twice and caused a third goal when his shot deflected off teammate Memphis Depay for the Netherlands, which finished third at the Word Cup last summer but have struggled in European Championship qualifying.

Gyasi Zardes scored the Americans' opener with his first international goal in the first half.

With the hosts 3-1 ahead in the 70th minute, John Brooks started the comeback and Jurgen's Klinsmann men pre

it was friendly tho

but the Netherlands do suck now turrible

Easily the best 2 game streak by any US team....not many teams can say beat the Dutch and the Germans back to back. Klinsmann on cloud nine.

are they finally letting the young bucks play? or are they sticking with 35 year old cac's who don't do shit on offense or defense balding looking like a fucking dentist out there on the pitch having them lead the charge? :hmm:

What's a friendly?

Different rules?
Different levels of intensity, maybe 5 instead of the 3 subs allowed under
the laws of the game. The coach is trying to see different things, trying
different players. If you win, that is fine, but if you lose, no one cares
or remembers. It means nothing.

As Klinsman will be the first to say, "their" young ones are better than the US
young ones, etc...The US has a lot of money, and is well organised, but in the
rest of the world, football is the only sport they play, and so the US will have to
make a greater committment to the game before it can become a power. Think
US-Belgium when the tire hits the road. The disparity between the US and other
teams becomes as it was in that game...

The US will stall its development in the sport if it does not get rid of the anti
competitive nature of its league. In the rest of the world, football is layered. You
have the highest division, the second highest, the third highest etc.... all of them
belonging to one football association. The worst 2 or 3 in each division always
get demoted to the lower division, and the best promoted. As such, the necessity of
avoiding demotion, and of attaining promotion, spurs the highest level of competition.

Also, in world football, every team plays every other team once at home, and once
away, so that at the end of the year, the teams can be ranked to determine who
won league based purely on the regular season record. The regular season
championship is big deal and this ensures that every game is tightly contested affair..

This is why football in other countries will remain superior to that of the US

This is not true. Friendly only means it isn't played for a record it's basically a preseason game but they do care

Ask anyone from a football country.... and then you will uderstand.
Friendlies are nothing more than practise sessions. This sorts of
results in meaningless games are quite common. In 1970,
South Africa beat the Brazilian world championship team 7-0..
That did not matter because in a serious game, South Africa
would not have beaten any team in the Brazilian first division.

I take particular offense at the notion that I might be lying when
I am talking about the sport I know well, and you know nothing
about.

Friendlies are not played in the pre-season, because there is no season for
national football teams. Friendly are played at various specific dates as
set by FIFA, unless the teams make some other arrangements....on their
own. Friendlies are completely meaningless. Often times, players opt not
to play, and then subs come in.

This. I wouldn't be surprised if the Netherlands tested out all of their young inexperienced players in the friendly against USA.

Absolute nonsense, when last the US lost a match 5-1?

The USA performance against these two giants simply means that this nation is a legit footballing nation. You have to play your best to beat them or they will embarrass your ass. Nederland and Deutschland are embarrassed today.

Germany could only beat them by a single goal in the recent world cup.

The US played a bunch of young players, they Dutch played more than adequate enough experienced players that if the US wasn't a good team they would be embarrassed. You guys are running out of excuses.

Unnu rass deaf, any European country playing the Dutch and Germans in back to back games would be on cloud nine if they were to get two victories like this friendly or not.

Even thought it was a friendly the USMT can beat those team.

In the last 3 matches against Germany it was one draw and the other two split. Don't underestimate the USA they ae not a walk over team. Time is changing, pay attention.

bro did you even see the match? if so you wouldnt b talking . you really think that if this was a real game that the US would come back from being 3-1 behind. not to mention that 2 of the better players Robben and sneijder didnt even play.

The Germany game was more telling than the Netherlands affair, especially that second half. Zee Germans simply had no answer for our attack. I like the way Klinsmann took the match to the big dogs, which is something the US hasn't traditionally done in the past.

The combination of Mix Diskerud, DeAndre Yedlin and Gyassi Zardes is something to keep an eye out for. I've taken a keen liking to the lad Zardes in particular.

If you've seen enough of this kid, you know he sees the game a step ahead of his defenders and makes em pay with his off the ball movement. Clinical with his finishing as well, I can't wait to see what he does this summer.

In the end, two really good preseason matches against the top sides in the world which sets us up nicely for the Gold Cup.

First off Robben is injured and Sneijder is not even the impact player he used to be. The US get no credit for coming back from 3-1 down on the road?

You guys are simply hating on the US team ....no team buck up and win 2 games against those 2 teams. This was a quality result by legit footballing country. Mi done! I have said my piece.

I thought I was done but one more thing...the Nederlands coach is one game away from being fired......that Latvia game is must win lets see if they can recover from the embarrassment of losing to the US of A.

bro read my first post didnt i say the netherlands are terrible and yet they still were the better team. specially in the back they suck. but my point is dont think that the match against them says a lot. cause like i said before if this was a real match the US wouldnt have won this game.

nobody is saying the US sucks they improved a lot. but stay realistic.

You guys are making assumption based on the past and not the present.

Sure historically the orange is the better team, the USMT was 0-4 against them.

But how do you explain the comeback, the 3 goals in the second half and 2 goals in 15 minutes?

Like someone said this is a young US team so if the orange was using young players I don't see how the US would gain an advantage.

Actually young Europeans players develop faster than young US players.

Didn't the USMT missing of few of their key players - Dempsey, Jones, Altidore?

Did Tim Howard retire from the National team?
