Figured it could use a dedicated knowledge base thread. NOW I feel like i can cut the cord!

I've been considering getting one of these for a while. Please give us an update when you get it and let us know if it does everything everyone else advertises that it does.

I have had my gbox mx2 for about 3 months now. It does everything you want it to and then some. I have had an apple tv2 for the past 2 years and it has been sitting on the shelf ever since I got it. It is very fast and doesn't buffer half as much my atv2 did. I have loaded XBMC hub and have all of the add ons that I need.

Completely satisfied and recommend everyone purchase. Let me know if you have specific questions. The gbox is android based no rooting necessary. You can add any and all apps that you use on your phone. Games, podcasts, etc.

I have been using it since Xmas...Highly recommended! I am seeing 1080p versions of NOAH via the XBMC install, not to mention all the top movies and tv shows and sports. Live TV and radio, Surf web, download apps, the whole shabang. I would not recommend for family though as it is a learning curve for the tech-non initiated. No need for Netflix, hulu or cable. I got my mine on amazon

I have two dual core mini android pcs and I still use Xbmc on my Appletv. I'm looking for a quad core android box or I might get that fire TV now that Xbmc has been loaded on it.

Man I really want to buy one but I really need a dvr and I haven't seen a viable solution yet other than cable

So much of these shits hitting the market now I don't know which to get... Some are saying GBOX now people are saying Amazon Fire TV, PLEX, etc... so many choices!!

SAME here!!!

same here bruhs

I hooked up my fam and myself
with WDTVs and ROKUs

and with Fire Tv and G-Box MX2

I am having a hard time deciding on what
the next hookup should be

I like to make it easy for my older relatives
to view their hdtvs without too much tech adjustments

My grandmother loves the wdtv local drive network
and the rokus using plex
that loads up on her tv flawlessly.
I taught her just change the hdmi aux inputs and
voila! she can watch all the CSIs, Law and Orders and NCISs
that she loves

FedEx just dropped off my MX2. It got here a lot quicker than I expected. I ordered it yesterday, but it came from Orlando (I'm in Tampa). I'm about to hook it up and test it out.

So far, so good. I've been playing around with it for the past few hours. I've watched a couple of movies (Ride Along & Kick Ass 2). There seems to be A LOT of content. So far I've added 1Channel, & Icefilms, SportsDevil. Please let me know if there are any other add-ons that I should take a look at.

It seems like a great device and it will probably end all of my future trips to the RedBox, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to completely cut the cable cord yet because it seems that it can be a little cumbersome navigating through all of the content that is available on xbmc. Then again my basic cable is covered by my HOA fees so my cable bill is a lot lower than most.

Thanks again fam!

a few questions

1- how do you add channels like icefilms to this, do u have to connect the box to the computer, or is there a channel appstore on the thing

2- i know with this u can watch shows right after they air live, i had the atv 2 years ago, for example can you stream game of thrones one hour after it airs live without any buffering issues in 720p ?

3- how often do you have to mess around with the thing to make the channels work , i know with the atv, there was a lot of ssh to fix things when the channels change or there was an update to the channel icefilms

What's this? What exactly does it do? I'm on my phone, didn't watch videos.

Damn, I ain't even got a Roku yet.

I don't watch much tv, tho. But when I do I like History, Discovery, and WTF happened to SPEED channel?!?!

I know I would prolly watch more if I had access to more stuff that interests me.

You don't have to connect it to a computer. Go to xbmchub.com and it will give you instructions on getting more channels than you will know what to do with.

Depends on your connection and the host. I've hardwired mine so I normally do OK. As far as buffering goes, it does a lot better than the atv2 IMO.

3- how often do you have to mess around with the thing to make the channels work , i know with the atv, there was a lot of ssh to fix things when the channels change or there was an update to the channel icefilms

You shouldn't have to mess with it too often.

Another tip for those that are getting into XBMC.

If you have a tablet, use YATSE Remote app instead XBMC's tablet app. XBMC's app just turns your tablet into a touch screen remote. Maybe its me but I was unimpressed. YATSE lets you browse content and queue it while the current movie is still playing. For instance, if I am in the middle of a Family Guy episode and I want to watch an episode of Boardwalk Empire next. I can use my table with Yatse and browse icefilms and select the episode to play next. All without interrupting the stream of Family Guy. You can use it to view trailers to see if a movie is worth the time and bandwidth before steaming. It also has a virtual keyboard feature for those pesky captcha inputs.

Yatse is free in Google Play Store. But in order to get ALL the features I mentioned above and more you need the unlocker which cost $4.49. Of course, this is bgol so... here you go: Yatse Unlocker

If that link stop working you can just get the Unlocker from Blackmart.
