Okay it hit me now. Before that I thought this was a prequel episode of how Franklin was Franklin before the weed runs
This episode was straight garbage. How they waste the entire episode with a dream sequence...wtf
I don't really think it was a well done episode and as I stated in a previous post these leaves me a bit worried if this is what we are going to get now that John as passed on.
They do the alternate reality dream sequence at the beginning and he wakes up in the middle of a gang war.

From all the stories Ive heard, thats what they say happened when crack hit. Gang wars and killings in LA got wild. Looking forward to next season.
He dreamed of everyone killed, Andre, the rapist/store robber, those cats outside the dyke’s club.
I cant place the financial aid dude he whooped but i think he was an adversary as well.
Whack finale IMO.i honestly thought he was gonna die at the end and close out the show w credit to John Singleton.

That's what I took from it too as season 4 will be a bloodbath. This was the introduction.

From a storyline stand point, it answered a question that I had, which was when did the gang bangers get in on the trade and change the landscape of South Central and the last scene clearly shows that happening.
The way the episode was presented showing an alternate timeline and then just blending Franklin waking up in an ice bath wasn't done well.
I think they should have asked FX to go 90 minutes so they can explain some stuff out a bit more.. I mean you picked up on things as the show went on but it wasn't that clear, atleast for me.
But if I was to speculate, I would guess this episode was shot after Singleton died and the show was renewed for another season.

I liked it. Bullets tore him up. Made him think of all things he could have done. His potential. Where it could have led him. Then when it looks like he found his alternate path boom reality set in. The woman I loved clapped me and during rehabbing everything went to shit. Man boy and his crew killing shit, old dude and his blood gang bout to retaliate. Everything went to shit while he was down. Now he fully embraced the life. He killed a man and almost died. Nothing shakes him anymore. He faced all his fears, and now I'm making this whole shit mine. No more half measures, nothing to hold him back. He let Reed know he knows who he is, it's all on the table. Now let's fucking go. It was dope to me.
Man I wanted a better end to this season. I feel the next season will be the last.
I echo those same sentiments. Shit bout to get thick season 4
