good read
the message is clear stop being disappointed in who said what
lots of black people have spoken up and talked about the injustice including athletes and celebrities.
the letter she wrote is more effective in a sense only because she is white, and its proven that white people don't listen to black people...they only listen to other white people. so we shouldn't diminish what others have done, simply because they couldn't do what she just based solely on the color of our skin.
if oprah said this, white people would dismiss it as her just spewing propaganda as a black woman
when sinead o'connor says it, regardless of how they act on the outside, on the inside they have to look at themselves and listen to some cold truths.
i commend her and everyone else who is speaking up about this, what i don't commend is the justice system
the line that people who have the upper hand is always " the system works"
i think most recently, grant and not martin would totally disagree.
the system has never worked for us it isn't designed to, and it took some tragic circumstances for us to see this.
i mean the civil rights movement was because the system wasn't designed for us and we couldn't take it any further..my parents marched and protested to share basic equalities. now we need to push for a better change.
we need to realize that everybody talking about racism and white supremacy (kefts, kaya) isn't a crackpot or militant and should be taken seriously. the reason they say what they say is because it needs to be heard and beaten into our brains so that we get it.
when the system changed from its overt nature we forgot about things, we got complacent and relaxed. we didn't think that the covert would be just as bad and in most cases even worse.
unfortunately it has taken and overt action for us to wake up somewhat and be alarmed...but the problem with this entire case and the system itself is the covert status. how the police department covered this up and helped him, how the law in a sense was covert because up until this incident most of us including myself outside of florida didn't even know the law existed.
im just one person and i know everybody feels that way too, but if we support each other and share ideas and really work together for common goals we can get them done, stop being picky and start picketing.
stop choosing HOW you want to take up a cause, and actually do something to take it up. if you keep waiting for something that fits your mold or exactly what you want to do, chances are you won't be doing anything.
